campaigning ruins democracy - the media position
The media has spent the last two months begging, threatening, and belittling Clinton that she is the destroyer of democracy for campaigning.

Metaphorically-Speaking: Screw You, Walter!
You wrote: "The problem that Obama has had with expanding his base in every primary since Wisconsin may boil down to the simple equation that either you get it...or you are tone-deaf...Either you are a full-fledged member (with the secret handshake and the decoder ring) or else you find yourself voting for a well-known, albeit flawed, alternative called Hillary Clinton."
I make NO apology for preferring Hillary to Barack! But, to paint me and my colleagues who do support her as somehow being out-of-touch or worse is yellow journalism at its worst. "Salon" readers and Hillary Democrats deserve better writing and more respect, Walter.
This vetting process (between Hillary and Barack) is pretty much split 50/50; it is far from decided. I like Hillary precisely beCAUSE she fights, is tenacious and doesn't quit; Barack and his minions should stop whining and keep competing.
Why can't Barack close the deal? Perhaps, the more voters see and hear him and his message, the less they like him and his message. That could be the true reason for your bleating that the Hillaryites need to head for the exits, stat; you fear that he is sliding backward. That is a distinct possibility.
Unless you're a paid hack or flack for Barack, Walter, stop with the faulty polemics and fawning apologia. You were a much better political writer before you became a partisan.

Slackie Onassis
I'm sure if Obama asks nicely the GOP won't use any of the following against him...
1) Wright - Aka "Honkygate"
2) Rezko - Serioulsy John, I hardly knew the guy during our 17 year relationship
3) Ayers (murderer) and his seriously demented wife Bernadine.
4) Typical White People - He may even promise not to prosecute all White women over the age of 60
5) Michelle Obama's dislike of America - "The only time in the last 20 years that I've truly felt any love for my country was when I got a 200,000 $ raise...It was also very kind of my husband to provide a 1 million $ earmark for my "not for profit hospital" tacked on to an unrelated bill...
6) Nafta flippity flop - Very Kerryesque
7) Exelon - has been Excellent in finacially supporting Team Obama...And Obama has been, well we know the rest...
This is just off the top of my head...GOP folks might even be better than me at this...
One thing for sure though, If I'm John McCain I would definelty use the Dem model of proportional delegates...Just cuz it seems so "fair"...

No Fault
It's nobody's fault. Obama has captured the imagination of a large swath of people by appealing to a broad coalition. Unfortunately...or fortunately, the Democratic party is 60 % female and there are clearly a large number of female voters that will vote for Hillary until the the voting lever is "pried from their dead, cold hands". I am not criticizing this, but it does show how feminists have failed miserably at "voting for the best candidate independent of race and gender". It is also a clear lesson for the future of the party. Can the Democratic party be about something more than identity politics ? Will they continue to hemorrhage male voters ? I have to say, it is a good test for my vote.

The DNC needs to change electoral Procedures
The DNC holds to two types of contradictory electoral proceudres. The first is pledged delegates who are elected. the second are the superdelegates. Frankly, I see no reason why this group of individuals should exist. They already vote once, right? Why do they get to vote again and have more "say" than the rest of us?
IMO, the DNC should do a few things. First, shorten the process so that there's far less time between contests. This might also remedy the conflicts between states as seen in the FL and MI debacle. Secondly, toss the superdelegates. There's no legitimate need for these people. The other solution would be to just eliminate proportional representation altogether. This would end the contests far sooner.

It's Starting To Look Like
Obama's 37 at the bowling alley may have been the tipping point.

The analysis is very stale, curling at the edges stale, mate! Why can't all the commentariat see the parallels?
Barack Obama's campaign is based on the l939 film "Mr. Smith goes to Washington", a bit too po-faced for 2lst century realities and with far too much waffle, verbose but meaningless. Hillary Clinton's is reminiscent of the Mel Brooks parody of the Bram Stoker vampire tale of Dracula, "Dead and Loving It". It's no mere coincidence that Dracula's exploits took place in Transylvania and that Hillary received a lifegiving infusion in that other 0nce-forested place, Pennsylvania.
I suppose you might think I'm crazy but I know I'm not.

"Tone-deaf"? Whew! I Thought We Were All "Racists"!
The problem that Obama has had with expanding his base in every primary since Wisconsin (Feb. 19) may boil down to the simple equation that either you get it (the young, the affluent and African-Americans) or you are tone-deaf (older voters, blue-collar Democrats, middle-class women and Hispanics).
How swell of Mr. Shapiro to inform those of us who do not support Mr. Obama that our real problem is that we are "tone-deaf"!
And here I thought we were all just "racists".

Repeat after me, Obama has NO CHANCE OF WINNING
Yes to the teacher from texas, I 100% stand by my statement that three subgroups vote for Obama: Angry blacks, women-hating liberals, and dumb people.
You CANNOT have looked into his voting record, church ties, ties to Farrakhan, ties to Rezko, ties to the Weatherman, LIES in his book (specifically relating to racism and his family and very important points in his life that allegedely made him who he is today), ties to BIG MONEY, lack of experience, failure to grasp that this lack of experience makes his running in and of itself a sign of his lack of experience, his wife, her comments (today and in the past), his constituents in Chicago, etc., etc., etc., and still be voting for him.
And, dear teacher from texas, as a woman if you cannot hear the distaste and disdain in his voice ESPECIALLY when he talks about women and working class people than god damn you. I expect more from a woman and someone who teaches children, and before you talk about sat scores and my alleged racism I am married to a black man and I scored high enough to go to the same schools Obama did except I didn't get in on Affirmative Action.
I listen to his speeches and I hear nonsense, I hear choice words with no connection to past or present, I hear inexperience, and I hear elitism. And before you spew nonsense about how many people love him remember this--these same people voted for George Bush TWICE, eat at McDonalds, watch a LOT of TV, and think Paris Hilton is a good role model for young girls.
WAKE UP PEOPLE. WAKE UP PEOPLE. He cannot withstand a bit of pressure, a bit of challenge, a bit of hard questioning. HE is the worst candidate in the world, and you are being fed a bill of goods. WAKE UP PEOPLE. His anti-Americanism alone makes him a loser before McCain even opens his mouth.
Do not give this election to the Republicans. Do not give away your destiny. I challenge everyone to READ. Take away bias and hate and love and just READ. READ everything--spend 100 hours and READ and then come back and let's talk. Google and read independent sources, and THINK. THINK.
I am smart, I work with poor people (mostly women and children and people of color), and always have. I care about this country and this world and I could never vote Obama NEVER NEVER NEVER because he is the enemy more so than Bush and if you can't see this than perhaps we are as doomed as many believe we are. Bush may be the devil, but at least we can keep him in our train of sight because he doesn't promise to save us while killing us. Obama, though promising to save us, is definitely going to kill us. I, for one, would rather go out fighting. GIVE ME LIBERTY or give me death and please don't lie to me. A fair fight is only one where all facts are out in the open, and Mr. Obama and his team are fighting DIRTEEEEEEE.....
