By calling small-town Americans "bitter," Obama has deepened a long-standing rift in the Democratic base. The party's success in November depends on healing it.

  • Set up

How come nobody's talking about the "set up' This blogger wo video Obmama has been trying to get into Obama private fund raisers for along time. She some how got on the invite list in San Francisco where Hillary has many super delegate supporters Hmmmmm?????

  • I'm a backwoods Bible thumping typical white person

Unless you haven't noticed...those bitter Bible thumping, gun toting, backwoods "less informed" (as you stated) voters are the backbone of the American economy/culture/society. Where does your meat, milk, bread, vegetables, wheat, cheese, and everything else in the grocery store (that you consume) come from? Those bitter backwoods Bible thumpers that Obama thinks are so horrible because they hold grudges against people who aren't like them. These people are conservative...because life effects them (unlike some people on this website). Where is your vehicle made? You guessed it, bitter Bible thumpers, again. Where do the building materials (and laborers) come from that were used to build your residence? Yep, again. The American world as you know it comes from these very people you're bashing. The only thing I've seen come out of the "metro" areas are new fashion designs and hot air. Learn "which side your bread is buttered on"- as we Bible thumpers call it.

  • Bitter voters unite!

  • Clintons begone. Go chimb a tree.

It is time you to fade away into history.

  • Hillary = Nader.

    Hillary = Nader.

  • Sean Wilentz, is that you?

One theory holds that "low information" voters, ignorant of the candidates and the issues, favor Clinton because of name recognition. But contrary to the progressive mythology about "low-information voters," a March Gallup poll shows that "both Obama and Clinton have near-universal name identification across all educational levels."

Right. So it's obviously 'demonizing' and 'elitist' to suggest they would be voting based only on name recognition.

Bill Clinton won Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia in 1992 and again four years later. Is it at all surprising that these very same voters, facing a recession, would choose another Democrat with the last name Clinton?

Wait... so now you're saying they are voting for Clinton based on name recognition?

At press time, [Clinton] was surging in the polls.

Well, I don't know when press time was, but this morning the AP reported The Quinnipiac University poll conducted from April 9-13 showed Clinton leading by 6 points. In previous polls, she was ahead by 20, then 12, then 9. Seems to me that Obama is the one who's 'surging.'

  • thanks for giving the people who have a score to setting a voice salon.

YEsterday is was bitter old women, and everyone is sexist. Today the soap box is filling with enraged working class who hate obama because he is an "elite".

Where do you dig these peopel up salon? Or are they rush limbaugh sabotuers who bobblehead away abotu whatever topic at hand? Just to hit obama. I'm going with the latter. Sounds liek the gop, clinton included. The "thing or issue", doesn't matter. Only the fact you are open to take cheap swipes. how are you clinton supporters not republcains again? Still waiting on an answer to that one.

Looks like I do have the energy today wes. Thanks for getting my blood pressure up :)

  • OH, PLEASE!

Is there anything worse than an elitist trying to describe what a "small town" anything is?

Obama on a tractor is about as close to the Dukkakis photo of him in a tank as one can get. Obama wouldn't know his ass from a pitch fork on a farm.

There is no long-standing rift in the Democratic party. Smelling blood, and a chance to get the White House, the far lefties, the real elitists of the party who live to stick it to the far righties, and who are mostly affluent, white folks who don't have to worry too much about where their next meal is coming from, are pushing their liberal mouth piece, Barack Obama, up the ladder since his days of running for Illinioi State Legislature.

The rest of the party, those of us who more closely reflect the views of the middle class Americans, and probably just left of center, are all too mindful of how we lost the White House years ago - and what it took to get it back!

HRC, for all her faults, more closely resembles the just left of center Democrats, the middle class, and the majority of those who reside in the suburbs and rural small towns where this race with be decided this November. Obama will not carry Ohio. He probably won't carry Pennsylvania, Michigan, and maybe not even Florida. And it won't be because of rifts or HRC supporters. It will be because he will be rejected because of who he is, what he stands for, and who he has associated himself with all these years, including Rev. Wright, Resko, and others.

So, tell me again, why this guy has been pronounced King of the Democrats by a gushing media?

  • Androgyene (sp?)

"Moving to New York almost ten years ago from the midwest I'm continually amazed at how many estwhile intellegent and articulate people have no concept of what the middle of the country is like. Some very smart and successful New Yorkers I know can't even find certain states on a map."

So? It's not that big city Democrats don't care if you live or die, we do, we want you to be happy and safe and well fed and protected and enjoying the fruit sof this the greatest country on Earth - BUT...you live in the middle of the country and live a life where its you and yours who have no clue about whats needed to actually work and live in the world as it is.

Obviously I'm speaking very generally and I'm not stating that thos of you in the middle are fundamentally incapable of understanding how the the world works, BUT, there's the parts of the country that generate most of the country's wealth and work with men and women of different faiths and creeds and different societal systems and are exposed to and have to accomodate the enormous complexity and variety of pressures that the world entire bring to them on a daily basis -

AND then there are huge swaths of this country where basically our fellow citizens deal w/ other citizens who in large part look and act the same and are concerned about their narrow interests.

Its not demeaning to you or thinking less of you, but there are sections of this country who just plain know more about crap - crap that has immediate effect on our safety and wealth than you in yur small town cocoon.

On a personal basis, me as an educated city slicker just plain know more about the world and business and Jews and Muslims and Indian food and a thousand more things than my in-laws, who I love, who live in Coastal Maine. I'd be a better candidate to run things than them. Extrapolate this to the national scale and that's why you have so called "elites" running things.

It becomes a matter of deciding which group of "elites" have your small town interests in mind.
