Is Hillary Clinton responsible for everything Walmart has ever done? She was on their board -- she didn't just shop there. Is Clinton responsible for everything Web Hubble did or said? He was her law partner. Is Clinton responsible for everything her husband did, from NAFTA to all the international deals that allowed her to lend her campaign $5 million?

I get what you're sayin. Just like Barack shouldn't be connected to Michelle's position as a board member for TreeHouse Foods that layed off hundereds of Hispanic workers...Or the fact the CEO of TreeHouse earned 26 million in total compenation (or about 15 million more than the CEO of Walmart)...Or he shouldn't be condemned by the fact Michelle was given a 200,000 dollar "raise" at the not for profit hospital she works at. Even though her raise came right after Barack was elected to Senate. Nor should he be responsible for the fact his wifes "not for profit" hospital earned 100,000,000 million dollars last year...Mostly off the back of uninsured minorities that were charged on average 3 1/2 times what mostly White insured folks were. He should also be distanced from his wifes remarks that seem to echo the "Appalling" comments of Pastor Wright...Nope, he shouldn't be connected to any of this...

  • Jewish Racism towards Blacks as American as Apple pie...

Many jewish liberals are content for Blacks to attack the usual WASPS suspects when racism is on the table...I'm sure I will get called "swartza" for daring even to comment about this subject matter... no doubt I will be attacked as antisemtic for commenting how jews during our jim crow era enjoyed the privledges of being white... israel did sell arms to South Africa during aparthied even with the history that SA was a haven for nazi's after WWII.. jews of course were slum landlords and have been professors in our universities promoting bell curve trash about Blacks defective DNA

I could go on and on yet Today Obama took the country beyond the angsts of race. It was a wonderful moment and place to get to..

I hope we all can have these moments not alone but up front and in the public square without being attacked and called racists, or antisemitic..

  • Forget It

    From the Root:

"It has not just been the conservative pundits who have been gearing up for this type of attack. Salon.com for example, a liberal website that has tilted consistently toward Clinton, had a story today that was one stop shopping for anti-Obama forces looking for ties between the Senator and "scary" black progressives, white sixty radicals, and thoughtful, moderate Palestinian scholars, who -- horror of horrors-- are pro-Palestinian."

    Creeps.

I have had a Salon subscription since the beginning of time. I won't be renewing. You have sunk to a real low with this one. Disgusting... and when we actually have a chance to...

    Oh never mind. Creeps.

  • A look from the Right

In some ways today's speech didn't change things for me--I was never going to vote for Barack. Frankly because his ideas on addressing some of our nation's perennial problems like health care, lagging education, illegal immigration to name a few simply won't be solved by his ultra-liberal, bigger government solutions. That said, In some ways I was more disappointed by his speech than many of you Libs will ever really understand. Throughout this marvelous, mischievous pre-election year I've taken pride in the idea that our country was finally leaving old racist ways behind. (Despite the fact that in recent years the Right went uncredited for elevating the likes of Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Clarence Thomas and others to not just token positions of power ala Bill Clinton's appointments, but breakthrough, race-busting perches in our highest national offices.) Throughout Obama's candidacy, I publicly pouted about his pathetic same-old policy solutions wrapped up in pretty prose. Privately, I thought it was pretty cool that color wasn't an issue.

His speech has doused that idealistic optimism I felt about him, an attractive, young black man as a transcender of race. He isn't. Nor was he ever. The ideas that his pastor Mr. Wright espouses are every bit Obama's despite how much he wants to explain it away. He may not shout it in shrill, caustic rhetoric now, but it's there. His wife Michelle has given us glimpses of it and if he should be elected, in my mind, there is no question that the teachings of Wright will sooner or later be heard from the now guarded lips of Obama. I'm really sorry for this. I'm gravely disappointed today--much like the long-ago loss of Easter bunnies and Santa. And did anybody notice one other thing? Today, Barack Obama didn't deliver his speech in that black preacher voice he has for certain other occasions. No,today he sounded like he was addressing The Harvard Club. What a ploy. What a disappointment to us all--both Left and Right.

  • @ kimbah

FYI, Clinton's healthcare plan has a stronger role for government than Obama's. In fact, Obama is considered more liberal because his supporters tend to be more liberal -- but on his votes and policies (except for early opposition to the war) he is, if any different, to the right of Clinton.

The reason bigger liberals like him is that his campaign creates a bigger mandate for change -- which opens the door for liberalism. It's a gamble for us liberals. He could be just like B. Clinton, promising hope and delivering the status quo, but the mere chance for something different is enough given the assurance that H. Clinton and McCain come from the establishment.

So I could argue that the most you could say ideologically is that Obama might be anti-establishment (or less pro-establishment). Calling him more of a "big government" liberal is just not supported by either the record or the rhetoric.

  • @ odog11

So you are saying that Hillary Clinton is responsible for everything Bill Clinton, and everyone she's ever been associated with, did or said? If so, I will admit you are consistent.

Why did you respond to my letter by discussing degrees of liberalism between Obama and Clinton--both are too liberal for me and this country. We simply can't afford their solutions. Moreover, I believe America will reject them in November.. The pointI'm making is greater than policy. We worry about Islamic extremism being taught to youngsters in Masques around the world and within our own borders and here we find our own presidential candidate is listening to the same type of anti-American hate rhetoric for 20 years!! Doesn't that bother you? He admits he's a product of this type of thinking--that the US is responsible for 911, purposeful HIV infestation of the Black community etc. WE have checks and balances in place for a president who goes too right or too Left. What check do we have for a president who secretly loathes the country he leads?
