When gas prices rise, incumbent parties hit the skids. If only it were that simple.
The letters thread is now closed.
  • Price of oil

The article is correct, gas prices affect everything. John McCain is probably out of the picture. Hillary Clinton is just fear mongering. Things went well under the two Bill Clinton terms because he just floated up on the DotCom boom. Clinton got in because he is a clever campaigner and the first Bush made some dumb mistakes. There was the "read my lips" where he did not keep his word. He subsidized garment making in Central America which cost many jobs in the Carolinas.

So what about Obama? He's the best bet because he is well liked by the Arab nations and he is very persuasive. No one can alter the effects of the increasing world wide overpopulation. What Europeans think does not count. There is no oil in Germany.

  • McCain will lose, not because of the gas price

The statistics cited are more anecdotal and do not support the conclusion. Like man made global warming, a bunch of facts are put together to support a conclusion they do not really support.

McCain will lose because the conservatives hate him. There is nothing McCain can do to recapture his base. Hillary and Obama can lose, only if they try. McCain cannot win, he can only hope the Dems blow it. I, for one, think he is toast.

  • McCain stays Obama must go away...

Not to seem as if I am spouting words or repeating telvised or Obama church related facts from their website, but let's quote Obama's books:

Quote from Barack Obama's book, Dreams Of My Father:

In Indonesia, I had spent two years at a Muslim school"

    "I studied the Koran.."

"The person who made me proudest of all, though, was [half brother] Roy .. He converted to Islam."

From 'The Audacity Of Hope, "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

From Dreams... AND I QUOTE " The only way for the white man to reconcile with the black man is for us to become brothers in Islam."

From Dreams of My Father, " I FOUND A SOLICE IN NURSING A PERVASIVE SENSE OF GRIEVANCE AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MY MOTHER'S RACE". Barack Hussein Obama

From 'Dreams of my Father', "The emotion between the races could never be pure, even love was tarnished by the desire to find in the other some element that was missing in ourselves. Whether we sought out our demons or salvation, the other race (WHITE) would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart." Barack Hussein Obama

From Dreams Of My Father: "That hate hadn't gone away," he wrote, BLAMING "WHITE PEOPLE — some CRUEL, some IGNORANT, sometimes a single face, sometimes just a faceless image of a system claiming power over our lives." Barack Hussein Obama

Seriously folks, no matter the gas prices, we need McCain tolead us to prosperity not Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton to lead us to total failure.

Don't believe me, get Obama's books and read for yourselves. Go to his church website and read it for yourselves.

  • Nice try, Andrew.

    Dear Andrew:

Sorry to spoil your party with reality, but the rise in oil prices from $22 per barrel in May 2003 to $108 today has almost nothing to do with increases in oil demand. Yes, oil demand has increased over the last 5 years, but global oil supply has grown to meet the increasing demand. There have been no shortages of oil, and there has been no change in the global oil supply/demand balance over this time period that would explain an almost 400% increase in oil prices. The Euro is up less than 20% vs the dollar during this time period, so it is a minor factor in the oil price rise.

I have spent over 30 years in the energy, banking and energy commodities industry. Anyone with even a modest understanding of the oil commodity markets can see that the huge increase in oil prices is directly correlated to the American voter's increasing loss of resolve on Iraq, and the related threat that America will abandon Iraq to chaos that will threaten Iraqi oil exports and global access to Middle East oil.

At best, America's retreat from Iraq would result in a hostile Iranian proxy state in Iraq that will postion the radicals in Iran to pursue their dream of liberating Saudi Arabia from the "apostate" Sunni regime, and thereby controlling global oil prices and distribution to America's economic detriment. Alternatively, it would ideally position Al Qaeda on the border with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia where they could join forces with their radical Wahabi brethren in Saudi Arabia to pursue and overthrow of the "apostate" royal regime, and allow them to establish a vicious Sunni caliphate that would control global oil supply and prices to the extreme detriment of the USA and the financial well being of every American.

The only credible point in your article is that speculators in the oil financial markets are a big part of the reason that oil prices have risen so high so fast. Unlike your democrat bretren, they well understand that it is complete nonsense to believe that America can leave Iraq without triggering a huge increase in oil prices. Therefore, as American voters have gradually lost their resolve on Iraq in complete ignorance of the severe economic consequences of such idiocy, and a democrat President with a democrat congress has become more likely on a platform of quickly leaving Iraq to chaos, profit speculators and hedgers have entered the financial oil markets in huge numbers and their large investments have triggered the huge increases in oil prices.

So far, the American people are paying almost $650 billion more per year for oil than they were before they began buying the insane notion that America can abandon Iraq to chaos that would upset the global oil supply/demand balance and threaten global oil supply. This heavy financial burden is the primary factor in the current economic slow down which will get exponentially worse if America elects a democrat government that forces a rapid withdrawal from Iraq that triggers chaos and a massive further increase in oil prices that will wreck the global economy and the financial well being of almost every American.

You and your psycho liberal brethren may feel this is a good thing because radically higher oil prices will force America to wean itself off of oil and pursue other alternatives. The problem is that it will take at least a generation to achieve that goal if it was our first priority, and a sudden, radical increase in oil prices could easily trigger a global depression. The point you all miss is that the same Americans who hate higher gas prices will become hysterical democrat haters when your idiocy on Iraq eliminates their jobs, as well as the value of their homes, their stock portfolios and their financial well being.

Economic self-destruction is a ridiculous price to pay for psycho liberal ignorance, but you dupes appear to be very determined to pursue economic suicide on Iraq without giving any thought to the effect it would have on the future of America's children. I guess in your adolescent minds, the adreneline rush you get from hating Republicans and Bush bashing makes it all worthwhile.
