Skewed sampling
So, over 26,000 people have been polled to determine that over 50% of the world has a negative view of America.
But only a handful of marketing execs were sampled to pick one candidate who can "cure" the image? I see.
It's true Obama thinks like a marketing exec. Perhaps that's why they like him best. But all marketing execs I know rely on conjecture and best guesses. Hardly opinions we should rely on to hang our hat in this matter.
-
who are we kidding.
When we talk about "the world" in this context, it seems painfully obvious to me that we are referring only to Western Europe. That much is made clear with pointless references to how "bewildering" "the world" finds our religious persuasions. It's only our white, educated, "enlightened" European brethren that seem to care more about our religion than the US and EU's collective stranglehold on the rest of the world's economy.

Brand vs. Marketing
I think what the article is really about is marketing, no brand. The brand is the product. Marketing is the advertising that entices you to buy the product. Its the product itself, and all of the touchpoints around it that define the brand.
Cheerios is what's IN the box, not ON the box.
Senator Obama may have an immediate, positive marketing impact on the United States if he is elected President. It will be the actions of the next President that have the greater impact on the brand that is the U.S. over the next 4 years.
It is the actions of President Bush that have tarnished brand over the last 4 years, not what he looks like on TV.
-
I Dunno much about big brands,
But the Hillary brand'll give you heartburn, a headache, and hemmeroids. I dunno man, Obama's just a better prescription all around.
-
Let's get it right
If I could make a list of the 5 things I want the next president to do they'd be:
- End the war in Iraq.
The war in Iraq is over. The Global War on Terrorism continues, of which the actions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Horn of Africa, Europe, et. al. are battle.
- End torture and retake the moral high ground.
Done already.
- Roll back the Bush tax cuts (which benefitted me greatly).
I disagree, but nothing is stopping you from writing an extra check to the government. You're free to pay them as much as you want.
- Reinvest in American infrastructure (a massive massive road and bridge construction project).
That's the states' job.
- Limit SUV's/encourage hybrid/electric and increase the average American MPG nationwide to 35 MPH by 2016.
That's the market's job.

When our nation stays in Denial..What can we expect
Just went to the Blogs Firedoglake, Crooks and Liars and several other blogs. NOthing about Israel's incursion into Gaza. Many of these blogs are as clogged as the MSM on this very serious issue. Amy goodman's program covered a bit of what is taking place Democracy NOw (great program)...but not the so called progressive blogosphere. The I/P conflict is "OFF LIMITS" on Firedoglake, and other websites
ANYONE HEAR OR SEE ANY NEWS ON WHAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN THE GAZA THE LAST FEW DAYS ON OLBERMAN, MATTHEWS, FOX OR ANYWHERE ELSE?
Since the majority of the US media is shut down to what is taking place in the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Here are a few links to here a Palestinian reporter from the Gaza. Who reports that 130 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli’s in the last few days… 39 of them children. Three Israeli’s have been killed.
The Palestinian reporter describes smelling flesh and seeing arms legs and fingers of Palestinians in the streets
http://www.democracynow.org/
Really worth the listen..the whole show
Amy Goodman also interviews A reporter from the Jewish media outlet Haartz, She reports that there is no news about what is really taking place for the Palestinians in the Gaza.

Brand Name is a Marketing problem?
After WWII, Germany and Nazism and Hitler was a horrible brand as well. Maybe if they had had better marketing, it wouldn't have been so bad after all?
-
@Ron Smith
You dear sweet thing. Pretty soon there will be marketed a "ObamaCareBear"
cuddly toy. Then you can clutch it as you fall blissfully asleep. Oh, wait a
minute...with all due respect... your post reveals that you are ALREADY asleep.

Elephantman, I have only the facts for you
... Please, by all means, run on a platform that America is an evil, rotten, warmongering, rogue state......Elephantman
-----
You interjected the "warmongering" labels into this discussion with the offhand false statement that the U.S. does not warmonger, which is not indicated by the historical facts.
.....Publish your list of supposed American atrocities....Elephantman.
-------------
The list I posted is not made up of "supposed" events. That is the historical record.
....Get Obama to talk about it. And get that message out there; that Obama is going to fix us up because we have been such a pariah nation.....Elephantman
----------
My intention in posting the list of American military actions is not to influence what Obama discusses in his campaign speeches. My intent is to correct your inaccurate and misleading statements that the U.S. does not warmonger, when the evidence clearly shows that it has and does. Not the only telling example of that, the current disaster in Iraq. Unless you haven't heard, we bombed and invaded a country that had not done anything to us and did even possess the ability to do anything to us. That's called warmongering.
Stop spinning. You argue like a typical Republican neocon, you spin, distort, drag into the discussion countless side issues, you muddy up the discussion, you make shit up. The truth will set you free.

Checkmate @ 6:44 p.m. You are very much aware of the real problem which Jeff Yang went nowhere near addressing
It seems to me that youe news is being censored just as much as it was in Soviet Russia and the whole world can see that. Rosenkavalier is completely wrong if she thinks that Western Europe is concerned only with Western Europe as the violent weekend in Gaza has been extensively reported on BBC Newsnight, other news outlets and also in my own country. The UN has described the military incursion by the Israeli army into Gaza, on of the poorest places in the world, as "disproportionate" to the Hamas rocket attacks on new Israeli settlements. My sympathies have always been with the Jewish p eople because of what they suffered in Europe during the Thirties and Forties but now I find their callous disregard for the lives of women, children and even babies in Gaza very disturbing. It seems to be a classic case of the abused becoming the abuser. Israel is armed to the teeth with the most sophisticated modern weaponry. I have no idea what the answer is to the Arab/Israeli fight to the death but America's partisan involvement is well known. The invasion of Iraq was just the final nail in the coffin (casket) of the American-Arab relationship.
You should try to get to a BBC, Australian or other English-language website for international news because real debate is being deliberately strangled by your own news media. We can only guess why. I wish you luck and respect your sincerity.
