Letters to the Editor

This letter is associated with the following article:
A powerful voice is a "god-given sound," says opera's Lotfi Mansouri. Obama's baritone seems to have that magic. Clinton's higher-pitched voice, not so much.
  • Occam's baritone

The significance of an overwhelming reference to a voice as a baritone will not be found in any number of associations uncovered by research, anthropological, sociological, psychological, political, or what have you. What Mr. Browning wanted was simply a dictionary to remind him of what a baritone is. No one refers to Hillary's mezzo soprano or to Bush's baritone. There are very few people whose speaking voice thrills us like singing.
