El mundo esta cambiando. Y hay bastante latinos que pueden ver la verdad de "Hilaria" --
Si, se puede...

maureenodonnell...
I can see why Europeans wonder how America voted such an idiot into office, but there are idiots still here. Bush was also the "chosen one" just like I think Obama is!
I have to make it clear...I did NOT vote for Bush! EVER! I knew exactly what he was about from the very beginning! I saw Bush the same way I see this Obama Fever. It scares me the way the media has acted! (I cried and cried when Bush stole the election in 2000 and I really cried when he was declared winner in 2004!) I have been looking forward to this election ever since!
I proudly claim I did not ever vote for that thug and I will not vote for the next thug posing as a Democrat! How do you feel about the candidates as a person from abroad? Just curious! Please forgive my harsh tone towards one of them, but I feel strongly about it!

sorry, A rlo Figg, Hillary Clinton is not Anglo-Saxon
Here we go again, with people going on and on about the heredity of others. Correct me if I'm wrong but I've understood that she is of Welsh descent. Why should it matter anyway? The Welsh have their own language, are very mucical people and have been known to play the harp beautifully. They are Celts and you must never have met a Welshman or woman or you'd hear all about it if you called either an Anglo-Saxon. Richard Burton married to Elizabeth Taylor, always promoted his Welshness and you must just have missed out on Catherine Zeta-Jones. Bill Clinton's mother was Cassidy. Doesn't sound very Anglo-Saxon to me. Let's just all hate everybody if they don't look like us, are more successful or anything at all will do. Sure, maybe Hillary Clinton's grandma was Lizzie Borden, the axe-murdere from Massachusetts? Oh no, Lizzie never had children. Doesn't really matter, does it?

Hillary is the "Chosen one."
She is being associated with strength, courage, competence and cold hard reasoning. She is the iron lady of America, the hero who has seen the battles on the front lines and knows what it takes to get things done.
Or at least that is what the press is telling you between bits about how she is female and how dreadful it is to have a president with ovaries. (IE: The sort of shit designed to piss you off enough to vote for her.)
Obama? He is being sold as a "Nice boy." And nice boys? They don't win elections.
Bush was never the "nice boy."

Metaphor:
If a group of people were running towards you yelling “fire, run, fire!” Would you automatically start running with the masses or would you look to make sure they were not running towards the fire?
I feel as though the Obama Cult is screaming “Fire” and trying to get those that are vulnerable and fearful to just run with them before having the time to think about it first!

I'm sure others have said this but ...
"In fact, people of color do not walk in lock step, are not necessarily united in their goals by their tincture or free from competition with each other. In fact, Hispanics, particularly immigrants -- legally or illegally here -- often find themselves, as newcomers, in fierce competition with working-class blacks and whites at the meat plant hiring office." ...
NO big revelation to anyone who is minimally aware of current affairs!
and
"The cynic will say that Hillary Clinton has detected tension in the brown-black relationship and exploited it..."
absolutely TRUE - this is what the Clinto campaign and Karl Rove type politics are all about ...

Back at you Mau Mau
What’s your point, Clinton and Rodham are both English surnames, if Obama can be black when he’s also half white, can’t Billary be considered British American when they are part Celt? Might Billary be related to Neal Cassady then? What’s Rodriguez’s point of Hispanics being a special group of people with confused ethnic identity; doesn’t Billary’s mongrel status make their ethnicity confused also? Are all brown people Hispanic or is someone trying to co-opt the color brown? America is full of mongrels, and not all of them are Hispanic. Do you see what absurd place the identity politics practiced by the Democratic Party the last 40 years has led America to? Obama remains above this nonsense; he was only diminished to this ridiculous level of discourse when he tried to counter Billary’s smears. Obama’s not a mama’s boy, he ain’t as “nice” as some Billaryites would smear him, and he can more than hold his own against Billary without stooping to their level, and McCain also if it comes to that.

Rodriguez
Re: "Many contemporary progressive and liberal thinkers and activists, have swallowed the same lines that many of our confused brothers and sisters on the right have swallowed which is: the problem lies in our identities (Black, Hispanic, woman) and not in the prejudiced, sexist and racist views about our identities."
Excellent point. Although I am a fan of Rodriguez, I find his analysis appalling and offensive. He doesn't speak for me or for Latinos. He's projecting his own issues onto the rest of us.

For the Obama Cult member on here begging for attention...
It was proven by Tim Russert from MSNBC who had a 4 page report at the Nevada Debate proving Obama’s Press Secretary in South Carolina is the one who injected race because Obama lost in New Hampshire! That is a FACT! Believe or perceive what ever you want, but you cannot spin or change the facts!
Now go away! Try recruiting somewhere else and stop taking up space on here with your BS propaganda spewing hate trying to divide the Democrats!

@ maureenodonnell
No one can explain to you the things that you asked about in your 8:35 post. The reply would be too nuanced and would take volumes.
Earlier someone asked, please explain Richard Rodriguez's essay. I could take it paragraph by paragraph and sentence by sentence and easily write five or six pages which would become an essay in itself. However, I am not crazy enough to try to do this. I'm am chuckling a bit watching people tie themselves into knots over this. One person actually said that Hispanic is only a marketing term. That person obviously never lived in Northern New Mexico. However, if one looked at the voting patterns in New Mexico, one would see sharp differences between the votes of those in Northern New Mexico and those in Southern New Mexico. It would tell one something important about how "Latino" votes (Latino is a term almost never used in New Mexico) would line up in the general election.
Here is my advice to you: Do not despair for our nation. If in the next four years we can restore habeas corpus, preserve a decent economy and find a truly viable alternative source of energy we will pull through. For now, just think of your visits here as like a visit to the zoo. You may not understand the animals, but they are always entertaining.
