dear anon
I think you should have a shoot-out with the texan -
Its late at night and not much is going on - so all this
steam coming out of your ears and nose might be for nothing - As this threat has become tremendously serious I think you guys should try it with some posts of "humor".
Who would be the funniest candidate?
Who would give us the best laugh?
We haven't covered this yet - haven't we?
And it might be a good way to spent the night.

I am so happy to see that we were able to make a difference! Vote for Hillary and DO NOT REGRET IT FOR ONE SECOND! IT IS THE MOST PATRIOTIC, AMERICAN, DEMOCRATIC, CARING FOR ALL, HUMANE, UN-REPUBLICAN, UN-NEO-CON THING YOU COULD DO FOR ALL OF HUMANITY!
WATCH OUT WORLD! AMERICA IS BACK!
WOO-HOO...GO HILLARY!

@Texas Dem aka Anon
A man is a man no matter what his skin color is, a woman is the only thing that will bring real compassion and change!
Vote for Ann Coulter! Vajayjay Power!!
PS. All caps is soooo 1994.

Try this approach....
Dear Rebecca: I have an idea. How about you close the curtain on the voting booth and then vote for your country, not a candidate. I mean it. If you think really hard about the meaningful ways your country might change for the better in the hands of one or the other of those two candidates, it'll be much easier to choose. You won't be voting for a woman or an African American, or against a woman or an African American. If you vote for your country, not the candidate, you won't have any trouble at all explaining your choice to your imaginary future children. I guarantee it.
-
I have a further complication
Rebecca expressed my feelings exactly. But I live in a caucus state where secrecy is not an option.
-
I finally got it
As nobody wants to "play" with me I had to come up with a conclusion all by myself.
It is "humor" which schould be the decisive point to choose a
candidate.
Isn't it the biggest most amazing quality we have - This abilty to laugh about ourselves?
They don't do that over there in France - its nearly impossible in Germany - they have a hard time even in there England and don'tlet me start with Saudi Arabia!
If we would have put Bush through this test he would have lost!
(remember the face he made when Colbert spoke)
And the best thing it's nearly impossiblle to "swiftboat" a funny person!
And I remember fondly - wow - Bill was funny - I mean he is - he could be funny again - but Hillary?
I guess there is no other possibility to vote for Obama!

Thank You ljwalker
What a beautiful letter. I especially appreciate your inclusion of the United Farmworkers who are so close to my heart. Their story is on of the most beautiful stories of the great civil rights movements of the 60s. And it goes quietly on. One of the most important heroes in my life is Delores Huerta. Her endorsement of Hillary Clinton is important to me because she is one who has truly walked the walk and never, never stopped. She is not glamorous but she embodies dignity. She is our abuela and we should listen to her.
One of the reasons I find it hard to embrace Obama, once he's gotten Hillary out of the way, is his tacit approval of his followers adopting the anti-Hillary vituperation. I want to say to Obama supporters:
Treating the Clintons with such contempt is so wrong. They have worked so hard at so many of the causes you hold dear. Yes they haven't been perfect. And yes they haven't always succeeded. But you shouldn't be so ready and so gleeful about throwing them away. Even as you become convinced that there are others to take on the job who are better suited to this moment, you should be kind and grateful for what they have given and done.
Obama is isn't perfect either. And some day he is going to disappoint you and break your heart. Or, worse, you won't feel so disappointed at his inconsistencies, but will have to watch as others spitefully pick him apart. You may feel certain that that won't happen. But certainty is a fools game. Things we thought would never happen quite often in fact do happen. And then if you've been gentle with others' failings you may be better able to live with you own and those whom you admire and respect now.
Our hearts are all open in this moment. We are vastly vulnerable in our hope and desire for a better world, for mending what has been broken. I have succumbed in a moment of passion to a bit of snarky posting, and I regret it deeply. My hope is that we will all be kind to one another, and gentle with each others' dream.

Does Obama hit Hillary?
Up until I walked into the voting booth this morning I too wasn't sure who I would vote for. I was originally a very strong Obama supporter, but then I saw the debate last week and was just blown away by Hillary's performance. Damn! Instant confusion. My partner and I have been debating the issue ever since. Yesterday my totally apolitical mother called me to ask whether I was voting for Hillary or Barack and we proceeded to have a very engaging discussion on the issue. It ended without resolution as far as our respective choices. But it was the first time in my 41 years that my mother and I have had a substantive conversation about politics.
Last night it was so pathetic that I took to asking our three year old daughter which one to pick. "Who is Hillary?" she asked. "Hillary is the girl." Who is Obama?" "Obama is the boy." Then she asked me, "Does Obama hit Hillary?" My first reaction to this was a slight chuckle. After all, she is three and has been poked a fair amount by boys that age. But then I thought about it a little more and it really bothered me. She's THREE and that power dynamic is already in her consciousness, despite being raised by two strong women.
I too said I would never vote for someone just because they were a woman. But I have to say, given her experience, intellect, undeniable mastery of the facts and command of politics in general, the woman thing tipped the scale for me today.
