On Super Tuesday, for the first time in my life, I will walk into the voting booth without knowing who to vote for. I blame John Edwards.

  • The lesser of "evils"

I was a supporter of Hillary's from way back. I cheered when she attempted to radically reform our national healthcare system as First Lady. And then when she became Senator from New York, I found myself making excuses for her more and more frequently as she voted in favor of giving the administration the power to wage unilateral war, and again and again defied the wishes of her progressive supporters to align herself with conservative causes in the Senate.

Yet Obama is the voice who claimed that he would bomb "terrorist targets" in Pakistan without its government's cooperation if he felt it was necessary; who refused to take military action off the table in Iran, apparently buying in to the administration's demonizing of a country which is little threat to us.

I took Minnesota Public Radio's "Find Your Candidate" poll, and Hillary came out on top as the candidate most aligned with my positions; but I no longer trust that the positions she says she espouses are real, not simply slogans designed to garner the votes of people like me.

So I feel left to choose between one candidate who has lost my trust, and another who holds some positions I'm strongly opposed to. But I'm leaning toward Obama, in the hope that if he can gain the office, he will also gain the experience to show restraint with military options. At least I feel more confident that he means what he says, absent evidence to the contrary.

  • Edwards

I am staying true to what I believe in. My vote, my voice, my choice. Why settle for second best? If enough people feel this way....who knows.

  • Finally...

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It is so nice to finally hear from some one else who remains undecided. I am so deeply conflicted about my vote, that for the first time in my life, I am not looking forward to voting tomorrow. You have summed up exactly how I feel about the two candidates and myself as a feminist and a democrat.

  • Make the DLC proud....Vote for HRC!

Because, as we all know, if you keep on trying the same thing that never works, it just might work!

And if Obama gets too many delegates, don't worry, I'm sure Terry McAuliffe will strongarm our superdelegates into voting the DLC way. Remember, K Street is watching you!

Who knows, with any luck maybe we can get Bob Shrum to take over as her campaign manager.

  • On Rebecca Traister piece

A word of advice to all undecided.

Being things as sorry as they are I suggest you all vote for my kitty "Pepe" as an independent candidate. At least he will NEVER LIE TO YOU.

  • LA Times story on Clinton push-polling

The LA Times is running a story on some push polling that's being done in S. California.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/02/breaking-news-p.html

"Phil Singer, the spokesman for the Clinton campaign. was contacted by e-mail last night. He answered that he was there. He was asked if the Clinton campaign was behind the push-poll, knew who was behind it or had any other information on it. That was at 5:27 p.m. Pacific time Saturday. As of this item's posting time, exactly eight hours later, no reply had been received."

  • Obama. OBAMA!

When it comes down to it, there really is only one answer: Obama.

  • Still Undecided?

Over and over again I see Clinton supporters saying she is the one with experience and Obama is too green. Without saying anything to disparage Hillary's experience (which I could) doesn't Barack have as much if not more experience than Bill did when he ran and won? When Bill Clinton was the youngest governor in the US, was his experience the most important quality?

Besides being a woman and having more "experience" what does Hillary have going for her?

  • I could have written this.

I supported Edwards, too. You have summed up my feelings EXACTLY...you even mentioned Hillary's anti-flag-burning bill that I consider one of the major strikes against her but that nobody else seems aware of, much less brings up.

    And yet...

To try to help me decide, I read Obama's The Audacity of Hope, and it didn't seem particularly audacious or hopeful to me....just a very, very long campaign ad. The book was woefully short on specifics. All that "community organizing" he did - what kind of results did he get? Did he inspire any community members in any way? Anyone know?

    And yet...

I'm thinking of not even voting in my state's primary because I can't decide between Clinton and Obama....I'll just vote for whichever one gets the nomination.

    And yet...

  • Media Bias Memo No. 543

Remember back when the Clintons were harshly criticized because of their Hollywood "connections"?

Where's the same criticism leveled at Obama now that he's Hollywood's darling?

  • Every vote counts--get out there Obama supporters & get your friends out too!

Note to Nelliebelle1197: Hope your ear infection gets better tonight--ear infections suck! But whatever you do, get in the car & vote! He needs you! I haven't been involved in politics since 1968, but dragged myself out in the rain after barely recovering from the flu to canvass because I felt compelled to help him win! We all need to do whatever we can!

  • WHY VOTE FOR OBAMA?

I posted somebody's blog in one of New York Times' blogs to counter someone else's posting here "Clinton negative"

"I don’t see how you’ve made your argument that Obama has the potential to be a great president…

we know very little about him other than the fact that he reminds me of a good old southern preacher.

Here of some facts we do know:

    1. According to the NY Times, his claim that he stood up against nuclear power industry (Exelon) in Illinois is not true. Exelon execs have been big contributors to Obama’s campaigns.

    2. According to the Chicago Tribune, Obama’s so-called sympathy in his speeches for laid-off Maytag workers in his state is not evidenced in any actions that he could have taken. He has received big contributions from Maytag directors.

    3. According to AP story, he made a statement in Idaho in support of the 2nd amendment, but in later statements, he said just the opposite.

It’s unfortunate that so many are being swept away by showbiz hoopla….we need to look deeper into his voting history, his special interest supportes and so much more."
