You'll never get it
Elitist much? You'll never get why poor women voted for Bill Clinton in the past and will vote for Hillary. Don't hurt your silly brain trying.
Oh and Obama, unlike Hillary OR Bill Clinton, is a lousy debater. Good speaker, sure. Lousy debater. You know...debating? That's where substance matters.

@ skylark
it strikes me that you are operating from a feminist purism. i define that as wanting an electable woman to be president because she is a woman. asking others to give up their purism for yours doesn't make sense.
-
Wow.
"You want to sit through 4 years of not getting any descent political coverage in the media because they'll all be reacting to the insanity the right-wing media will be unleashing daily on Hillary? Ugh! I shudder to think of it. I literally would consider a Republican over that."
Wow. They rolled you, didn't they? You're Newt Gingrich's wet dream. "Please don't hurt me anymore."
Pansy.

Vote Now or Forever Hold Your Peace
Wow! Skylark...You took the words right out of my mouth. I turned off the computer and was getting ready for bed, but I couldn't stand it. So, here I am ready to say we would have the chance of another woman president in MAYBE another 20 years. And you said it for me. Thank YOU!
But I have something else to say. Yes, Hillary Clinton is coming in on Bill's wings, but what so-called-feminists and other fools like Ms Kissling and RebeccaT don't realize is the chance of Hillary getting to this position or any other woman getting to this position close enough to become president on HER OWN INITIATIVE is pretty damn nil. And they're fooling themselves if they think otherwise. Why!!! Because of the very shit that flying back and forth about this right here and right now and because BIG DADDY glass ceiling is firmly still in place to make sure that won't happen. And women who care about women's rights KNOW THAT!
So, Ms. Kissling and RebeccaT, if you are EVER going to vote for a woman for president, you damn well better take the opportunity now, but if Hillary loses, it AIN'T coming around any time soon again. At least not in this lifetime.

What a bunch of crap
I think that the fact that Kissling got a job at Radcliffe might be a sign that there is enough feminism already. Otherwise, please help me understand the logic here.
What is it that a president that fails to enact a given legislation should do? Nothing, resign ... such that the Kissling's of this world might grow up without a grudge for 15 years. Or, perhaps, compromise ...
But what is even more funny is that Obama is by far her second choice, why? Anybody that scrap the surface knows that Obama's policies are to the right of Clinton. And, if they are not, he is really not telling us, at least not until NH.
Moreover, mixing Iraq with Kissling activism for the cause of women. Isn't this reverse stereotyping? Damn if you do, damn if you don't.
Ok, I admit I am for Edwards as well. Though, he did not help our cause by equating his desire for change with Obama's. Hey, I also "have a dream" ... and my dream will be fullfilled by social justice with a Black, Woman or White president.

Right, if we don't elect Hillary Clinton now, THERE ARE NO OTHER WOMEN EVER!!!!
Not Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Mikulski, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Patty Murray, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Mary Landrieu, Blanche Lincoln, Maria Cantwell, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Debbie Stabenow, Lisa Murkowski, Elizabeth Dole, Amy Klobuchar, Claire McCaskill, Ruth Ann Minner, Linda Lingle, Jennifer Granholm, Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sebelius, M. Jodi Rell, Christine Gregoire, Sarah Palin....
Those are merely a list of currently serving senators and governors, ignoring members of the house, or state senators or state representatives.
No, if we don't elect a woman now we'll never get a magical vagina into the Presidency and then where will we be?
-
Yeah, Anonymous
And how many, HOW MANY, have plans somewhat known, have the financial backing, the sheer amount of connections, etc. it takes to accomplish this? And THINK, God Damnit, 8 years for the next president (probably male), and maybe a woman thinks to run but doesn't make it to the primaries and then ANOTHER 8 YEARS for the next president (oh, yeah, probably male) and then ANOTHER 8 YEARS FOR THE NEXT. Let's see, THAT'S at least 24 years! Get a Freakin' clue!!

@ totoro
No. You don't understand feminism. Kissling is the purist. Skylark is using identity politics.
As evidence of purism, it is Kissling who is saying that Senator Clinton has not fulfilled the promise of feminism, that she is not focused enough on feminism and openly feminist enough and ideologically pure. It is skylark who is saying she wants a woman because she is a woman (in addition to other reasons) and that having a woman will change the nation's perception of women in power.
Actually, I wish this were true. Margaret Thatcher, a woman who was elected as her own person rather than her connection to a husband or a father, did not substantially change the way the British looked at women. Sexism is much more entrenched than that.
I would not discount that Hillary is a woman in making my choice, but it would not be my primary reason for voting for her either.
Actually, I think it would be difficult for Hillary to win for the same reason I feel it would be difficult for Obama to win. Racism and sexism are twin demons. They are the product of one group's desire to feel superior to the other, just as the Nazi movement arose in Germany as an Aryan desire to feel superior to the jews. The difference is in the way that war or genocide is waged. Whites enslaved and sometimes killed blacks, but men will not enslave women in such a systematic way or kill them in war. Instead, they sometimes use pair bonding as a form of enslavment and sporadically kill and/or rape women individually. Such a passion for priviledge and control will not be extinguished by the election or one woman or one black man. We are really talking baby steps. Most likely many more generations. No empowered group ever gave up power easily. Usually, it has to be wrested away. Often, people die.
