Ignorance is Bliss
If the plan was to make people more ignorant, it is proving to be effective as shown by the Ahmadinejad visit. I was driving in listening to a sports talk show and the commentators suddenly felt the need to demonize Columbia and the Iranian president, which is all well and good, there is plenty to say negatively about the guy, but the issue was their overwhelming level of ignorance about Iran, Iraq, and Ahmadinejad.
They slammed Columbia for allowing "someone like" Ahmadinejad to speak while having no clue what Ahmadinejad represents except that he was "bad". They also claimed he was killing American soldiers due to arming the "enemy" in Iraq. They might have wondered first who the fuk the enemy in Iraq is and then gone on to wonder how Iraq came to be the most armed country in the world. Maybe because we armed Iraq to the hilt when we supported Saddam? They also might have asked, aren't the Sunnis we are now further arming the same sunnis who worked for Saddam before we toppled him? Gee fukkin willickers, maybe we are more adept at creating death and destruction in Iraq of Iraqi civilians and American soldiers than Ahmadinejad could ever hope to be.
To hear two cocky sportscasters, who aren't that brilliant when it comes to sports, display their political and historical ignorance so proudly, is enough to want me wrench my radio out of the dashboard with a crowbar, instead I turned the radio off, resigned to the fact that the stain of ignorance is so easily spread. Ignorance is bliss. Must be.
