Could 2008 be the year that Democrats finally admit an old sweetheart is never coming back, and stop pandering to the white male voter?

  • Never a cause for pause

One must wonder how anyone can write an article about the massive changes in demography without taking a moment to reflect. Schaller should find his topic "sobering" for it documents major change in what has been the most successful democracy in the history of the world. There is no proof that Hispanics or Blacks are capable of building a nation that rivals those built by Europeans or Asians. How anyone can write an article, which more or less, praises the loss of the white male vote is beyond me. Who will do the work of government and society into the future? Asians may do a great job, but there are not enough Asians to fill in the blanks.

People should pause. Maybe losing the white vote indicates a change in the country that will prove just as bad for blacks and hispanics as for white males? Maybe a society where blacks and hispanics dominate demographically will prove to be less kind to them than a society with a dominant white population? To date, there is no evidence that blacks and hispanics (as a groups) will magically improve in matters of civilization as soon as white males are excommunicated from the USA. However, there is lots of proof that diversity will increase white pride and white hatred towards others, and that is something everyone should fear.

  • Baby Grumpus

I wonder if Baby Grumpus thinks he is better than others and therefore has some right to hate them and wish them erradicated? If so, I wonder if he realizes that he's basically a stupid nazi?

  • Hurrah

This article reminds me how much of our political process is pandering. It's not about policies or direction or any other goddamn thing but squeezing out a vote. Alot of pandering is directed at the poor and middle class using social issues. It's the cater to the lowest common denominater and exploit their weaknesses campaign method. Every day a poltician makes a pandering decision, hmmm do I pander to the pro-choice or the anti-abotion crowd today? lesbians or bible thumpers? peace crowd or war crowd? The Protestants or the Catholics? ACLU or NASCAR? Men or women? whites or blacks or asians or muslims? I interpret this article as simply suggesting to cross out a demographic from the pander list and using pandering resources elsewhere.

I remember a scene in a movie where a politician is looking at a mass grave after a violent city riot and lamenting how it was a pity since the dead could not vote for him. Our political system is filled with self-seeking sycophants with the Republicans being the most blatant and worst of the bunch. These are our leaders. hoo fukkin rah.

And to the Saloniks comment- let me make a clear and nuanced argument - Fuk you and the dumbass ship you came in on.

  • Baby Grumpus

I wonder if Martin Blank realizes that some people are edumacated enough to realize that not all writing is meant to be interpreted literally, and found Baby Grumpus's letter pretty damned amusing?

  • First Point

Both parties (that is to say, the Dempublican Hegemony) are a joke. The North American Union is the new goal they are seeking, thanks to all the lobbyists who have been working overtime on behalf of amoral/immoral international corporations.

Aftr 40 years of being bashed by the Democrats, who sided with feminists to trash all men, many men moved to the only other (seemingly) valid choice. When that ship also sank. Men are at a loss.

REAL MEN should be and are looking for a third alternative. Really, ALL REAL Americans should be looking for this alternative.

It is quite obvious, the Demopublican Hegemony seeks a soft socialist/fascist continent state. Do you think men expect to be well represented in such a nanny state?

If by 'well represented', you mean being sent off to far away lands to fight pointless soulless Brave New World profit wars, then I think we all know the answer.

My hope is that "Bubba" wakes the fuck up finally and takes back this country from the femi-nanny internationalist ring.

Think I am kidding, huh? Shows you where your brain is (not in your head, think the other end)

  • And

Ron Paul is the only honerst voice in the pack. If anyone had balls, they would insist he not be marginalized and dismissed by the 'all-knowing what's best for you' media.

  • name calling

I'm a white male. I guess I'm a "Bubba." How about this? If you're a black female, I will refer to your voting block as, "Lakiesha."

  • Say white men...

and the white power boys show up. Confusion at it's most confusing.

  • Democrats Only A Hair's Breadth From Presidency

(Serious:) If John Edwards got himself a simple short haircut, a longish version of a buzz-cut, most of the Bubbas would vote for him, because of his "American" hair and his legitimate Southern accent.

And many of the rest of us would vote for him, because of his message, his experience, and his potential.

A short-haired John Edwards would win, especially against shiny-haired fancy-top Mitt Romney. No other Democrat has much of a chance.

Let's stop all this philosophy and get back to basics such as hair. The real Bubba NASCAR guys hate philosophy, but they would respond to a nice longish buzz-cut and a comfortable accent.

  • Married women

Better write off those married women, too. In 2004, 55 percent of married mothers supported George W. Bush, compared with 44 percent for John Kerry. They apparently believed that Bush was protecting them and their families by invading Iraq (duh?). Sounds like they succumbed to Republican pandering, so why bother with them? Waste of money.

The prof's analysis was very superficial, not attempting to explain why southern males vote Republican. And he says "I'm talking about the white male voter, or at least a certain long-coveted variety thereof", grudgingly acknowledging that not all white males are stoopid southroners. If any other group was spoken about in this disparaging way there would be people marching in the streets.

  • Why don't you call the foloow- up article "Welcome, Black Boy"?

    Ok, Salon?

  • So how come

whenever I go to a meeting of Democrats, it's always white people, men and women?

  • What's a "white guy?"

I think the author means white men who intentionally think of themselves as "white man."

Us white men who don't much think about being white or male don't qualify.
