In his Watergate memoir, the would-be president is remarkably honest about his conflict as a loyal Republican confronted with his president's perfidy. Imagine such a Republican today.

  • Fast forward to the present

George Bush once smoked pot, that didn't make him a hippy. Thompson is up to his neck in Iran Contra and the K street lobbyists. Once he believed in peace and love, and I once had a full head of hair.

  • What Comes Around Goes Around

Sheesh, the only thing good about the politics and politicians is that these folks really are 'green'. The Republicans are especially adept -- recycle the same murderous bastards that brought you Iran-Contra / Vietnam / Cambodia / Laos / Grenada / Lebanon / Somalia / Whatever / -- eh! viola!

Ol' Fred is just another re-run. I just wish he was Fred Gwynne, the real deal, and NOT another Ronnie Reagan wanna-be . . .

  • Such a Democrat today is even less imaginable.

Anyone who pretends that Democrats hold their Presidents to higher standards should have learned better at any of several points during the Clinton administration. The man was even disbarred, for crying out loud -- you lionize as a President a man who was considered morally unqualified to represent a client in court!

  • How many trillion dollar unnecessary wars did Clinton start again?

How badly did he run up the deficit?

  • Huh??

Thanks, welocmerain (nice handle), for your input. All those pretty words, but what the f**k are you talking about??? We need to drag you folks out of the 19th century. Hello? 2007 already. Your pet peeve left the building in 2000. And all we got was this lousy t-shirt . . .

  • Clinton ain't so far in the past, d00d

totallyblase, how can you respond to an article about a 1975 autobiography with a statement that events in 2000 are too far in the past to be worth considering?

I realize that's the standard Democrat programmed response these days to anything about Clinton, but don't be more of an idiot than God made you. If we're to compare the behavior of Republicans now to the behavior of Democrats when their guy was in office, Clinton is the most recent example -- and at a mere seven years ago, historically it's quite recent. I realize you people want to bury the example of your conduct during the Clinton administration like a cat kicking sand over a turd, but buddy, the smell lingers.

When Republicans were faced with a man who was morally unfit to be President, they did the right thing. Democrats, faced with the same choice, wouldn't -- and now they pretend that it happened a century ago. You only wish.

  • RE: welcomerain

    Repug Troll...do not feed.

  • Yeah, how come nobody ever writes articles about Clinton anymore?

    I guess 9/11 changed everything.

  • welcome rain, indeed

Clinton ain't so far in the past, d00d

"d00d"?? Whaddever, Sparky. Nobody in the real world has slapped your silly little head for being so silly??

<<totallyblase, how can you respond to an article about a 1975 autobiography with a statement that events in 2000 are too far in the past to be worth considering?>>

Easy. I was around in dem der days. I doubt you were, "d00d"

You dare call me a Democrat?? Sorry, Sparky, but the only smell here is that of a Quisling. Check the word 'quisling' out on google, 'd00d . . .

"YOU PEOPLE", indeed. "YOUR CONDUCT?" Are you downloading this shite?? Got Think??

<<When Republicans were faced with a man who was morally unfit to be President, they did the right thing. Democrats, faced with the same choice, wouldn't -- and now they pretend that it happened a century ago. You only wish.>>

Put that in the present tense, boy. You are faced with a man who is not only morally unfit (imagine a world where the word 'morality' and 'Bush' could be put together without causing snickers . . . ), he is mentally unfit. Check out his most recent speech. A dugged-out drunken champagne Charlie daring to talk about the "V" word -- you know. Vietnam. Jaysus, give us a break.

Go back to you FreekerRepublick . . .

  • If we want to go that route...

Heck, why do Repug trolls keep on bringing Clinton and his blow job, that was sooooooo 1990s!

We don't have to look back at the XX century, we have plenty of ammo right now: Let's see... the current president seems to have missed half of his national guard commitment. He also was either shit faced or high on cocaine up to the age of 40. We have the first presidential team with a criminal record to ever be elected (or selected take your pick); both Bush and Cheney have DUI arrests. It gets even better, our current first lady also has a criminal record; a DUI that was part of an involuntary vehicular manslaughter. She is the first first lady (pardon the repetition) to have a confirmed kill to her name. And that was just during the 70s!!!

But it gets better! A brother of the president was involved in a financial scandal that cost the taxpayer a few pretty $ billion. Several presidential nephews have been convicted for trespassing, stalking or DUI. We also have a first in the Presidential history: a member of the immediate family of the president is a crack head (and looking by her mugshot probably in early stages of crack whore-dom...another first) with a litany of arrests to prove it. We also have a few firsts from the first daughters: both daughters have had multiple counts of under age drinking and falsified documents. Funny thing, believe it or not, fake IDs are actually a serious prosecutable felony, with 9/11 and all the security risks that they imply. Oh, and one of the current president's first business ventures, Arbusto Energy, was financed partially with money from the Bin Ladin group which belongs to the the family of the guy who master minded 9/11.Funny thing, who this whole "trading with the enemy" must be a Bush family thing; read upon Bush's grandpa fascination with everything fascist. I mean how many presidents can say that at some point his grandparent had his assets seized for trading with the enemy during WWII? And that is just ignoring George Bush Sr's deeds, and most of the mid and late 80s, and most of Jr's presidency (it would take a few pages just to enumerate!)

War, debt, treason, manslaughter, alcohol, fucked up family values: Good

Blow jobs, 2-bit land deals, healthy population, shuffling travel agents: Baaaaad.

Gotta love troll logic! It's funny, in a sad kind of way, to see the mental contortions that they have to go through so that they can focus all of our attention on the straw in the eye of the American Republic that was Clinton, while they do their best to ignore the industrial-sized forged and triple reinforced heavy duty grade iron beam in our collective eyes that has become this lame duck presidency.

Spin away idiots! Maybe we can harness your sorry asses as a new source of renewable energy. There may be some use for these idiots after all...

  • Seriously?

how can you respond to an article about a 1975 autobiography with a statement that events in 2000 are too far in the past to be worth considering?

Because the 1975 autobiography was written by someone who is considering a run for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2008. Which of the current candidates for President do you believe was disbarred in 2000?
