Horse Race
I read Salon for its political writing, but I don't think these sorts of cash-fixated articles about who's up and who's down really serve the readers.
I appreciate the candidate profiles, but they seemed to be merely introductions to each man's financial woes.
My disappointment isn't limited to you guys, of course. All the press is guilty of shallowness and meaninglessness. I just hope you can be the guys who write something helpful and illuminating and important to voters.
Like a central, comprehensive, annotated, living repository of information on all candidates. (hint)

Ah, the Mitt-ster!
When he was running for guv of Massachusetts, it came up that he claimed his house in Utah as his primary residence. Saved $18,000 on his Utah state taxes. After the usual hemming, hawing and spin he...blamed his wife. Said she was in charge of all that nickel and dime stuff. This from the multi-millionaire businessman who, I suppose, never ever actually looked at his tax forms. Just handed the receipts off to his wife.
There's a terrific attack line in there for someone willing and deft enough to use it.

Lots Can Happen
Mr. Schaller is basically acknowledging the election is still a long way off and lots can happen. Right now, with Hillary leading in the polls and the hate machine starting to gear up much of the Republicans' work is being done for them.
Of course their donors, voters and allies in the media will support Romney, Thompson, or Bobo the clown, (like they did last time) once the smoke clears. They know they can depend on their base. The Democrats do not share that luxury--even now when a war is being fought under false pretenses.

The One Republican Who HAS Repudiated Neoconservatism
Yes, Anonymous is correct. Dr. Ron Paul is "none of the above", being the only Republican candidate to not only reject all of the Bush Administrations fiascoes, but to have opposed them from the very outset. You name it: invasion of Iraq, illegal snooping, exploding deficits, disrespecting the Constitution, "no child left behind"...Rep. Dr. Paul has been there to eloquently speak against these monstrosities and the transition of our Constitutional republic into the new Soviet Union.
His percentage of followers is still small, not surprising when he has been eclipsed by the media and depends on funding raised almost exclusively from small donors. However, his message is getting out. The libertarian wing of the Republican Party is supportive and he is attracting a lot of independent voters.
Whether or not the mainstream of the Republican Party can be convinced that neoconism is taking their party on a suicide run remains to be seen. If they can start to accept a reality that exists beyond the twisted logic, prejudices, and narrow perspective defined by their strident propagandists, there may be some hope they can once again serve as an anchor for the ship of state instead of a crazily spinning propeller driving it onto the reef.

Romney's comment not only distort the views of Marx and Clinton
but also the views of Adam Smith. Smith thought that manufacturers will collude whenever they get the chance, so the workers had to have the chance to collude back, if we were going to have anything approaching fair economics. He was in favor of labor unions, and in today's health care market, he'd be in favor of finding some way to organize against being walked on by the health care industries.

Can someone explain...
...how any of the republican hopefuls(except Ron Paul) are actually republican? Compare this group of psychos to Eisenhower or even Nixon and tell me how they are even close to being alike.
They have gone from Eisenhower to Fred Thompson....creepy.
And they don't believe in evolution? De-evolution is more like it.

Ron Paul Nader the new Republican spoiler
The RNC couldn't hope for a better spoiler. The far left whackjobs will abandon the Democratic party and split the ticket for a Ron Paul third candidate thereby ensuring a far far right wing Republican win. I know Ralph Nader and the Green party still like to imagine that they didn't hand Bush the White House in 2000 but they did. They know they did. Because in fine college sophomore soapbox faux Marxist tradition, better you elect Satan than elect someone who is ideologically impure on the left. It's utopia or hell comrades, utopia or hell!

Well...
I still think Gore cost Nader the election.

Ron Paul is the ONLY real Conservative Republican
And the trouble is, most real conservative Republicans have not ever heard of him, thanks to the mainstream media who have shunned him and his message.
But you can't stop the grassfire that is taking over America. Thousands of people have joined meetup groups, exercising our First Amendment rights while we still have them. I urge you to join us if you love FREEDOM.
For a quick Ron Paul primer, watch this Google interview:

No one but Ron Paul can save America!

From the article:
"The Brownback campaign issued a statement which, in part, read: "Romney's openness to gay scout leaders conflicts with the Scout Oath, which requires Scouts to be 'morally straight.'"
Morally straight, eh? I expect Brownback's (Were all homobigots named by Dickens?) sense of morality was acquired by brushing against the Bible. However, an actual reading of the Bible uncovers scores of warnings against wealth. Satan didn't tempt the Christ with his fiery cock. And the Christ only told one story of Hell: that of a rich man being damned. And the Bible is quite clear about faith: if one believes, one then gives all one has to the poor and trusts in God to provide. One can conclude, therefore, that wealth ain't "morally straight." Rather, it's a crookedy, albeit plush with lots of bling and other shiny stuff, road to Hell.

Hmmm. This is a variant of pining for one's knight in shining armor to come someday and carry one away. And then there's the happily ever after, of course, as one only has to be saved once in fairy tales: dragons never strike the same princess twice.

Yep, and those who voted for Bush also played their part in the doubling of the national debt. Now, I expect Bush voters to step forward, as they allege they're members of the party of responsiblity, and double their taxes, since they voted for the man who doubled the national debt. Surely, they won't expect those of the party of personal responsibility won't expect those who voted for Gore to pay for the profligate spending, powered by profligate borrowing.
