Letters to the Editor

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig needs to be there when Barry Bonds makes home run history -- and rise above the race issues that color Bonds in the public eye.
  • Of course Bonds' is getting singled out!

He's about to break the career homerun record, the most famous of all American sporting records, for god's sake (Mom, apple pie and 755)! The record has stood for 30+ years! The fact that both Bonds and Aaron didn't pass the record until passing the big 4-0 is a testament to how unassailable the HR record is. It's a big deal and the fact that a known cheater is about to surpass Aaron's accomplishment might cause a tad bit of scrutiny, don't you think?

The fact that Aaron broke Ruth's record while enduring the well-documented harassment at the hands of a ever-shrinking group of bigoted idiots (although there were still a lot left in the 70s) is the epitome of what it means to be a hero in America today.

Barry Bonds is the antithesis of a hero. And his skin color has nothing to do with it.
