  • Pea Brains

I've read some of the letters on Keith's piece. There were those who discussed the issues, and there were those who personally attacked the writer. It doesn't take intelligence to hit below the belt and call the author names.

  • The Constitution says. . .

Gosh, Rooooooth, my copy of the Constitution says (in Article II Section 2) The President. . .shall have the power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of impeachment.

Sure, he didn't do what other presidents (and he himself) have done previously, with having a commission recommend things to him, etc. But what he did in the Libby case is allowed by the Constitution.

I don't know if in your assessment of Bush's "mercy" you include his not granting pardons while governor of Texas. If so, that wouldn't really be relevant, because in Texas, the governor cannot grant a pardon unless the parole board recommends it.

I noted in another post you lamented that Bush and Gonzales presided over more executions in Texas than any other governor. The governor of Texas does not sentence anyone to death. The jury answers special issues, and the judge signs the warrant. And Al Gonzales was on the Texas Supreme Court, which has civil jurisdiction, not criminal.

  • Mr. Bush the speaker of the "pack"

I am sure Mr. Bush will never resign and will continue to protect all of those in his "pack."

If he had to face any opponent alone he would crumble and give up his arguement in a minute. He might even join the otherside.

He is a classic bully and bullies need their entourage to give them power, and in the case of our President his words.

I don't even think he would be a Christian if it was not the most popular religion in the US.

I can totally see Bush as a spoiled Roman rock thrower.

No way would he have joined an unpopular Jesus preaching peace.

  • Hey, But We're Not Losing . . .

You still hanging out on these boards, Fly-boy?? Thought after you'd been exposed as the pullimious l'il pup you are, you'd have the 'nads to move on.

I love the heroics of stuff like this:

"I'm also will to be that he doesn't put his life on the line for your benefit every time he straps on his "anything," too."

Lay your 'life on the line'? 1000 pound bombs on tenement buildings??

'Strap on'? Jaysus, why do I get visions of Sly Rambo?

Get a life. Things look a lot different when you move out of mom's basement.

  • Because this once great nation

is in a much worse state than it was when Nixon was president.

By now, the Republicrat Party has decided that if we have allowed the last six years to prevail without any heads rolling in Washington thus far, then they have lulled us enough to throw the real big crap at us peons.

That real big crap is yet to come. That is what scares me.

(to those who still think there are two legit parties, WAKE UP, there is one big internationalist corporate fascist party taking this country to the cleaners and eventual bankruptcy while they laugh all the way to their Swiss bank accounts)

  • Happy 4th, America!

I was vacationing in an electricity-free cabin and forgot batteries to power the radio. Imagine my reaction as I heard Scooter's commuted sentence. My husband had to take over driving (we were passing the Kennebunkport exit and I wanted to egg the Bush compound) until I calmed down.

I wish I could say I was surprised, but I'm not. I wish I could say "Well, *now* people will see what an a@@ we have in the White House," but I can't (they won't).

All I can do is count the days, send some cash to the DNC and my favorite candidates, and push *hard* for change.

Saving this country is going to be up to us voters. No one (congress, the supreme court, the UN) is going to bail us out. We all need to speak up, speak out, and speak endlessly about the need for a president that is not part of Bush's machine. Lest we forget.

Thank you, Keith Olbermann, for speaking eloquently and with strength. I hope you changed some minds.

  • We can Only Hope

This is an excellent article that every American citizen needs to read as well as every member of Congress. For over six years, this Country has been on a dangerous and slippery path under the leadership of Bush and Cheney. These two men have lied us into a disastrious War in Iraq that is costing our nation it's future leaders, they are bankrupting our Treasury, and trampling on our Civil Liberties on a daily basis. The honorable thing for them to do is to resign but these two individuals thinks that they are Above the Law. The only recourse available to the Nation is for both of them to be Impeached before they lead our Country over the edge.

  • @Tom in New Caney

I'd take anything you said more seriously if you didn't use the stupid smiley face bullshit.

Wait. No I wouldn't. I think you are a moron.

Scooter committed treason and if you aren't willing to admit it you are likely willing to argue with me about the colour of the sky.

  • 42-0

That is the only rating I care about. 6 state governors, 6 US Senators, 30 US House members: the ratio of Democratic gains to Republican non-gains in 2006. And a gain of over 200 state legislative seats for the Democrats.

If the Clinton-did-it-too and criticizing-the- President-is-supporting-the-terrorists guff is tried again we can expect a similar result in 2008. Because the vast majority of Independents like me know the Republican leadership care about the 300,000 richest Americans and the 300,000 richest foreigners and nobody else.

We have seen our retirement funds cut both by private companies

and Social Security. We have seen gas prices and health premiums double in the last six years, oil and health insurance company profits hit new highs while we get raises of 2% 0r 3% a year if we're lucky. So much for the damn new prosperity.

So go ahead and watch O'Reilly boost his ratings with fabricated stories about 'rapist lesbian gangs' and small town 'scandals'.

Most of us know that it is just Rupert Murdoch serving up bon-bons to fools as his political friends grant him yet more favors.
