Bush is only the tip of the iceberg
Even if the nationwide hatred of George Bush results in a Democratic win next November, that won't heal the nation from the severe wounds inflicted by the Bush-Cheney-Rove Junta.
For that to happen, the United States electorate has to make a commitment: no more power-mad extremists and their cohorts will ever be elected president again -- not even if they come in attractive, faux Southern frat boy clothing, waving the American flag (what a joke THAT turned out to be) and pandering to the worst elements of America.
Because you know Bush is only the visible tip of the power-mad men behind him. And they are not going away, nor will they surrender power unless forced to.
The key is the Supreme Court, and always has been. From a panel of centrist, responsible Justices that ruled 8-0 against Richard Nixon's bogus claims of Executive privilege in 1973, we're stuck for decades with a Court that is dangerously close to having a decades-long right-wing bent (not a CONSERVATIVE bent; these men are extremists to the core). If Bush or his future clones are ever held to account for their crimes by Congress, I am 100% convinced this Supreme Court would issue them a free pass.
There's only one long-term solution. The Democratic Party has to take back the White House through several administrations, long enough to make reasonable Supreme Court appointments to isolate the radical Justices to the fringe where they belong.
And finally, if there's still anyone out there who thinks it's OK to vote for a third-party Presidential candidate because "there's no real difference between the major parties", please just shut up and go away.

I relunctantly agree with Keith Olbermann
All Americans must wake up! Yes, Keith is quite the liberal and I don't care for some of their socialist concepts but I must admit that the left has some good ideas just like the right does. Unfortunately and sadly, almost all the points Keith made last night was correct. I am a political mutt with conservative and liberal views but cannot subscribe wholeheartedly to one party. I wish only to serve the constitution. However, I have seen this administration ignore it time and again. I wish Democrats would chill with the harsh politics and I wish the Republicans would do the same but also WAKE UP! Bush is not a conservative! Neocon philosophy is dangerous to a healthy democracy. Any president that refers to the constitution as "just a G** damned piece of paper!" should shock both liberals and conservatives. SAVE THE REPUBLIC!!!

Moral Equivalence!
I love how all the wingnuts talk about what a immoral and horrible man Clinton was (which I disagree with) and then came into office saying they were moral and would rule as adults, yet they now use moral equivalence with Clinton to justify everything they and Bush do. "It's OK that we do it, because Clinton did it!" In fact everything they or Bush does is always much worse, or they are just flat outlying about Clinton. How the self-proclaimed mighty have fallen!
BTW, I think Hornet Driver is driving an old AMC vehicle. Very old and probably light blue with rust around the windows. I bet smoke billows out the exhaust when he accelerates, 0-30 in 2 minutes!

citizens of Iraq
I totally agree with you Kieth and I thank you for having the guts to speak out the way you do knowing how dangerous it could be.
Just one thing bothers me and that is when it is mentioned that our U.S. soldiers are dying in Iraq and not a word about the citizens of that country who have been going through untold horrors for so very long now and a good deal of it at our hands. Not only soldiers die but ordinary citizens are murdered, thrown out of their homes, starved, mutilated, tortured and terrorized by this country ....and our young soldiers are the ones being trained to perform these acts and indoctrinated to think it is their patriotic duty. This is the most discraceful thing and we must not forget what we are doing over there.
Happy? fourth of July.

Perfectly said....but what do we do???
This couldn't have beenn said beter. I wonder why we, as a nation, are not up in arms, taking to the streets? We have let this mob take over our country using lies and fear, they have run amok and control us now. Why are we so complacent? And truly, what practical things can we do to change this?

Hornet Driver -- Thanks for your service to our country
I made a promise long ago on Salon that I would not attack a fellow veteran no matter how much we may disagree. And I couldn't disagree with your point of view more.
I'm proud of you for doing what you do. But I sure don't like the things you say. I know you believe you are right. But your perspective and opinion is understandably tempered by the restrictions of being a commissioned officer and the code of the warrior.
Soon, if not already, you will be a "former Hornet Driver." It happens to all fighter jocks. Time will take away your multi-million dollar weapon. Soon, if not already, you will have to come down to earth and say goodbye to the elite class of warriors.
I don't represent the views of any other veteran anymore than you represent the views of all fighter pilots. In fact, I know a former "Hornet Driver" right here in my city who is a Democrat and is opposed to the Iraq War, even though he fought there.
Only time will tell where you will end up after you are out of the service and away from the constant force-fed propaganda of the military. Who knows? Maybe you may eventually come to understand that one of the great things about America, the thing that you swore to defend, is the Constitution of the United States.
I ask you to ponder that in light of what the Bush administration has been doing since coming to power. "Clinton did it too" is not a valid response.
I join you today in celebrating our Declaration of Independence, when a group of radicals sat down and told a tyrant to go to hell. I ask you to think about the actions of Bush and Cheney, not Clinton. If they are not in violation of the Constitution, then explain why in a reasonable tone.
We're listening.
