Letters to the Editor

From Iraq to Scooter Libby, Bush and Cheney have broken America's trust and stabbed this nation in the back. It is time for them to go.
  • Bush is only the tip of the iceberg

Even if the nationwide hatred of George Bush results in a Democratic win next November, that won't heal the nation from the severe wounds inflicted by the Bush-Cheney-Rove Junta.

For that to happen, the United States electorate has to make a commitment: no more power-mad extremists and their cohorts will ever be elected president again -- not even if they come in attractive, faux Southern frat boy clothing, waving the American flag (what a joke THAT turned out to be) and pandering to the worst elements of America.

Because you know Bush is only the visible tip of the power-mad men behind him. And they are not going away, nor will they surrender power unless forced to.

The key is the Supreme Court, and always has been. From a panel of centrist, responsible Justices that ruled 8-0 against Richard Nixon's bogus claims of Executive privilege in 1973, we're stuck for decades with a Court that is dangerously close to having a decades-long right-wing bent (not a CONSERVATIVE bent; these men are extremists to the core). If Bush or his future clones are ever held to account for their crimes by Congress, I am 100% convinced this Supreme Court would issue them a free pass.

There's only one long-term solution. The Democratic Party has to take back the White House through several administrations, long enough to make reasonable Supreme Court appointments to isolate the radical Justices to the fringe where they belong.

And finally, if there's still anyone out there who thinks it's OK to vote for a third-party Presidential candidate because "there's no real difference between the major parties", please just shut up and go away.
