I looked up BtB while she does have a large behind, she is by no means obese so why choose her?Was she a less risky target then say Aretha Franklin or Oprah? Buffie is the flip side of Melanie Melons who has extremely large and natural breasts, although they could cause back problems.
No I am not denying that there is an obesity problem and not just with black women either, but please at least pick someone who fits the bill, not just one who offends your sensibility's. The article had a good premise, why shoot it in the foot?
Healthiness does NOT depend on size, and yes size matters (in a very POSITIVE way) to most Black men.

Once again DD doesn't seem to get a simple fact. This time it is that people like Buffiethebody have the bodies that they have due to genetics more so than through eating.
Can DD write an article that doesn't trash people unreasonably or unfairly?

I am considering canceling my membership until DD is taken off of salon, but that would be considered censorship, and I am against that. Still, can someone tell DD to stop writing articles about herself, and her trivial dislikes?
I will give DD respect for pointing out the dangers of an unhealthy diet, but she didn't have to make her point at the expense of specific people such as Buffiethebody, and I was upset that she didn't mention how hard it is to struggle against genetics.

If there's one thing we need to learn in this country is that obsese is ugly. It doesn't matter how pretty your eyes are, or how shapely your mouth; it doesn't matter how prominent your chin is, or how mesomorphic your body might be.
If you're obese you're OUT. End of story.
That doesn't mean you should be discriminated against. But it probably means you will. But you have control. Change yourself, for your own sake!
Debra is just jealous. She was probably one of those no-ass sisters. Always resented it. I'm so happy this board rose in defense of the big booty. LOL! I will give Debra this though. There is a thin line between a women with a big ass and a big ass women. (See the movie Barbershop for more detail). Any women that's pass 160lbs is pushing it even at 5'10 like Tara Banks. I think most brothers think women between 125 and 150 are good to go. We tend to follow the rule "If it looks right. It's alright." ABC's 20/20 did a story about this a couple of years ago. I think what Debra is talking about is lot of this women are borderline obese and then they have a baby or get older and starts to eat a little more than when they were younger and the next thing you know they are 200lbs.
Let's assume that Ms. Dickerson is correct and that African-American lad mags are to blame for obesity among black women. What, on god's green earth, can we do about it?
Would she have us ban these magazines? Institute aversion therapy for black and Hispanic males in the public education system? Start a publicly funded magazine that glamorizes healthier black women? These ideas, as ridiculous as they sound, are the best ones I can envision to solve this problem.
The fact is, it would take one incredibly strong-willed and altruistic MF to change what he is attracted to in order to further public health policy. I firmly believe that you can't help what you love.
Surely anyone can see that Buffie has a slim body with a large rear. It's also fairly obvious to most of us who know anything about people who's origins lie in Sub-Saharan Africa that most black women have a rounder more pert backside than do women with origins from Asia or Europe. So what!
Obesity is nothing to do with having a more prominent backside than the norm in this western culture. That's just the way we (Africans) are made. I'm a guy and I have a rounder bigger backside than almost any white guy for Gods sake! All those lads magazines Dickinson denigrates are simply a welcome recognition of black women's uniqueness. Why not pick on the obsession with disproportionately massive breast, stick thin pre-pubescent bodies that western culture constantly bombards all women with.
I've never heard of black women feeling/being forced to be or get fat for their men. On the contrary black women are essentially left to their own devices as far as figure goes and I'd guess they are happier with their body images as a result.
What are the odds that Debs has an unusually small booty for a sister and is just jealous ;-)
I can assure you that I and my friends have no fetish for obese women, but we are partial to a curvy figure and nice round booty.

For the love of God, Debs--could you _please_ either work out your self-hatred in therapy, or go home and bury the hatchet with your family?
