    looks matter more for women because women can get by on looks alone whereas a man has to look good AND accomplish something or pay the price

    an unattractive talented women will get as much or as little approval as an equally talented and equally unattractive man. Due to the biological realities of the audience you don't see lots of men who are where they are for looks ALONE, unlike the case with women.
