Could immigration really be the issue that finally cracks the Republican base? It's already making the party's '08 contenders act funny.
  • news today

In the news today was something interesting: California is short on farm labor (about 500,000 is what the report said) to harvest crops. Guess where the illegals who had been working these ag jobs in California went? They headed to Nevada, to work on construction projects. Can you see the irony in that? Pro-illegal immigrant people always say that they'll do the jobs that Americans won't do, so it does have irony that the thousands who left for Nevada don't want these jobs, either. And, they are now in construction, which are jobs that Americans WILL do, but not at the low wages that the illegals will do it for. So the cycle continues: New illegals take the job of "old" illegals who have gone on to higher paying jobs. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that millions more illegal immigrants are waiting to jump the line, and that the US can't continue to absorb the endless (yes, endless) supply of poor middle and South Americans. And for those of you who write that the illegals clean your houses and do your yards, I say this: millions of Americans clean their own houses and mow their own yards, and I am one of them. And we are NOT all Republicans, and we are mad that our laws are not being enforced so that you can have your cheap labor.
