Unequal justice
Another female school teacher fooling around with her students results in her husband killing her lover. O.K. with me but what's wrong when a male teacher does the same thing?

It's not really sexism and misogyny.
Men throw vicious insults at each other all the time, usually in jest. That's just how the social dynamic works. A group of men will troll each other to find out which member of the group reacts the most dramatically, then they all gang up on that person just to see the over-the-top reactions. It's brutish, and I suspect its function is to drive outward emotional expression out of male peer groups. Regardless, it's simply how male social circles function. Women bloggers aren't experiencing sexism, they're not experiencing misogyny, they're experiencing what it's like to interact with males 'as a male' in a purely social context outside of the dating scene. These vicious men are merely treating women LIKE THEY TREAT OTHER MEN. The fact they use crude sexual epithets is merely from choosing the attack that gets the biggest response. They're not actually sexist, they're just trolling women like they would troll men, and using sexist remarks is a more effective technique at obtaining knee-jerk responses. The only reason women get attacked more frequently than men in this fashion is online is that the 'payoff' more likely. If these vulgar attacks were treated properly by women bloggers (that is to say, totally ignored for the useless spam that they are), then they wouldn't take place as frequently.

Posting writers addresses in comments section
Posting a writer's address in the comments section is inherently a threat, akin to brandishing a knife.
Even if the poster's intent is not to do violence to the writer, the poster's action would have no meaning without an implied threat of violence.

"Fuck you and fuck valentine's day. Never had a loved one and never will. Women apparently hate me for some reason, despite that I have an endless parade of male suitors. So yeah, fuck you and fuck valentine's day. This is why, and when, I stopped drawing."

i've just been watching Ishmael Beah "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier" on C-SPAN. now that's *real* problems. that kind of got me out of my feeling bad about myself. but knew i was wrong while i did it, and i did it anyway because i was mad. as i would expect of my children i was sorry and apologized. you forgave me. if you hadn't i would have had to just give it to God. ok, it *wasn't* impressing child soldiers but it was twisting her fears just to hurt. and of necessity it brought many others into that group. it was bad. i should have had more self control(but, i still hope it really upset her. what can i say? this guy's got a lot more lives before nirvana)

(from that url). but i was lucky. there's a yiddish saying, "the rocks in his head fit the holes in hers". that describes me and Bev. color is the *least* of our differences. she's the hard worker in the family. if the women on this list knew how *little* i did, they'd really gang up. but i did raise her kids as my own and i am really crazy about her. for the right woman a man only really has to provide love. real love.

This is something I've been worrying about quite a bit, as a twentysomething, who spends quite a few hours every day on the Internet for work and pleasure.
I wish Joan Walsh, and I, and everyone else had better answers. Some day, I hope we will--till then, this article had the best statement of the problem I've seen in awhile: " I've grown a thicker skin. I didn't want skin this thick."

Unfortunately I've seen far too much abusive misogyny
on the left too, not infrequently from men who frequent salon. It's really scary.
One particularly vulgar poster of Salon Tabletalk , for example, who went by "Captain Billy", regularly assaulted the women posters as pigs, single fat slobs, prostitutes, ad nauseum.
When I complained about this a series of other male p;articipants, instead of backing me, backed him - even knowing that he was an abusive nut. The moderator did nothing. I quit my membership over it.
Misogyny truly seems to be the last acceptable form of biogry.
One which tragically has no boundaries either.
