Don't count them out
No one - least of all those calling John Edwards "selfish" - can predict how long Mrs. Edwards will live or what the quality or circumstances of that life will be. What seems certain is that you don't abandon a life's path when the question of mortality is raised. Everybody knows where that path leads ultimately. Like the lady says....WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE SOME TIME.
Cancer like life is capricious. As one with some experience in the matter, I have
learned the best way is to accept it and treat it - however menacing - as a damned nuisance and not hunker down or surrender to any perceived "inevitability." Who knows? What with scientific progress and luck, Elizabeth Edwards might well outlive anyone you can name, see her husband through two terms and turn a shovel of dirt for his presidential library. I hope she does. God bless her.
