Despite his prattle about cutting the deficit, a grudging nod to global climate change, and yet another plea for backup on his Iraq plan, Bush's presidency entered its final phase on life support.
  • Impeachment? Quite possible

The LW who makes the excellent point that the Bush presidential cluster-fuck points up the deep flaws in our system--the Electoral College and lack of a quick parliamentary path for removing the kind of dangerously incompetent Chief Exec we suffer with today--but neglects to mention that impeachment is still our best option.

Mr. Shapiro says that incompetence isn't grounds for impeachment. True. But lying to Congress about the reasons for going to war is. It's a felony to lie to Congress. How about violating the FISA law and illegally wiretapping Americans' communications? How about tacitly or openly approving the outing of Valerie Plame as CIA, also a felony? Sanctioning the violation of the Geneva Conventions by promoting secret trials and supporting torture may not qualify; I'm not a Constitutional lawyer.

The point is, there's plenty of ammo for the House to hold impeachment hearings, the Senate to try Bush and Cheney, and the nation to oust this outrageously stupid monkey and his Darth Vader VP before they can do much more damage. It's time for Speaker Pelosi to start talking impeachment.

Please. Please. For the love of God and this nation.
