Agreed Saddam was a bad ass and deserved worse, but executing an incarcerated and powerless former head of state strikes me as a sign of cowardice and moral weakness.
All the on-air "talent" with their hairdoos and troweled-on makeup. What's the matter?
For the last three years they've been good little parrots, bringing us the Iraq War as entertainment, with lower third of the screen banners proclaiming (as they were instructed) "The War FOR Iraq" "The Liberation of Iraq" and other slogans meant to jack everybody up in favor of the war.
But they are all a bunch of cock-teasers. After three years of bringing us constant images of flaming vehicles, pools of blood and crispy body parts smoking in the gutters of Iraq, suddenly, when it comes time for the ultimate cum-shot, the "money shot" as they say in the porn business, showing us Saddam actually falling through the trap and jerking to an abrupt halt, well they suddenly have developed a sense of what's "tasteful" and what's not.
"We want to warn our viewers that what we're about to show you is VERY disturbing! So if you have family or kids in the room, now is the time to turn away from the screen."
And then they show Saddam looking a little wan and pale, surrounded by hooded thugs, and they place a hefty hemp rope noose over his neck. He even helps them a little by lifting his chin so that they can get a piece of black cloth around his neck to prevent rope chaffing.
Meanwhile, our bubblehead bimbo newsreader is saying how defiant or how scared Saddam looks, when in fact, he looked neither defiant nor overly frightened. I want to ask one of these news bitches how she thinks she would act if she were about a minute away from death.
And that's all. End of video.
What's the matter, CNN? What's the matter America? You love war. You love to watch the violence each night. But you are too squeamish for the climax of your three years or more of calling for Saddam's death? Jeez! It's like you've been watching a three-year porno movie and now at last the stud is getting ready to splooge all over the cheer leader and you cover your eyes? Can't watch?
Now that right there is fucked up. It just shows you what a bunch of schizophrenic cowards we have in this country.
America should see the whole hanging. It should run with sound. It should be shown at least 24 times a day. Let us all see what over 3,000 of our soldiers have died for. You bought the video, but now you don't want to watch the ending?
Bah!
Ps.
Part clarification re: "Smokescreen, US interests, Tin pot dictators". Read, LeCastor's "No I don't think we can give it a rest"
Agnostic white Englishman.
God rest your soul James. Try not to spin too much in your grave with all them goddamn hypocrite crackers trying to sing your songs and pretend like they were hip to all that back in the day.
Oh Christ -- do you HONESTLY NOT KNOW that James Brown was a big Top 40 radio star back in the sixties and seventies?
I guess either you DON'T KNOW or YOU'RE PRETENDING YOU DON'T KNOW that millions and millions of Americans listened to the Top 40 stations that played James Brown music along with Smokey Robinson and Miracles and the Temptations and Ike and Tina and the Supremes and Martha and the Vandelas and Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight and the Pips.
BB King, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Arthur Love, Sly and the Family Stone -- the list of immensely popular and successful black Top 40 acts from "back in the day" goes on and on and on.
I mean let's get real here for a moment, you hate-spewing drama queen!
Motown ruled the charts when I grew up!!!!!!!!!!
So stick that up your bigoted ass and sit on it and spin.
Do you honestly don't know the first reactions to James Brown's music in the 1950s, let me spell that for you NINETEEN FIFTIES like I said.
And the same goes for Ike and Tina's show too. You need to smarten yourself up brother. Read any good biography of either of those ground breaking acts, and throw in Little Richard too. If you don't know what a hell of a place racist America was in the 50s then you're full of crap.
Am I a hater? Well, coming from any cracker, that's a badge of honor.
Mohammad Ali.
How proud I am to be an American when anyone would cheer "happy happy joy joy" after watching a person die. Did you cheer each time his body swung, or when he convulsed?
I'm not sure what poor taste has to do with essential Americanism (key jokes). I can understand not wanting to have a beer with the guy or invite him to your parties, but we've been killing people for less-heinous crimes in this country for hundreds of years. What about his reaction is essentially un-American?
I don't understand the personal angst people feel over the death of Saddam. Some here complain Saddam has become a martyr and symbol for Sunni insurgents--no doubt his death won't magically end sectarian violence--and yet some are doing exactly what they lament by turned Saddam's death into a symbol of everything that is wrong with America.
The timing of the execution is horrible, and no, this is not how American justice is supposed to work (the trial was a pony show). But Saddam was not tried in the United States under our law. There was little doubt in my mind when we invaded that when Saddam was captured the Iraqis would execute him. The Sunnis comprise 18% of the population; they benefited most from Saddam's rule. There was no way the Shiites and Kurds would allow him to be tried in international courts. What do protesters suggest we should have done? Refuse to turn him over once he was convicted and sentenced?
FUCK EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU WHO EXCUSED, SUPPORTED OR WERE SLIGHTLY APOLOGETIC ABOUT SADDAM.
MAY ALL OF YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN GET WHAT SADDAM GAVE TO THE KURDS.
POISON GAS.
