That woman is to publishing what Bush is to compassionate and/or conservatism. Too bad DD swallowed all the bullshit JR was peddling. Having had a shitty ex-husband is no excuse to get Faux News to help huckster this waste of a human being into a pretend confession. Everyone with a 3-digit IQ already knows he did it. Most of his sycophants know it, too, they're just too fucking dumb to see they were used and discarded, just like Nicole. OJ and Regan and Fox will get richer from this...not us, and certainly not his victims' families.
DD, you are dumb as a post.
I could see the point, and premise. Not sure why Salon bothered publishing it. As a note on audience - I've read Salon for years and I found this offensive. Particularly when the author dips into unrelated topics. "Remnant" anyone? Your bitterness over not being able to get a decent date makes one wonder at the self-hate that went into writing this, indeed the hate in general to say someone else should be committing suicide.
Perhaps the author should be asking OJ to share some of the meds she said he was hoarding?
To the editors: Rise above these crap editorials. This is worse then the "Jack Abramnoff isn't allowed to get religious" piece you did a few months back. Every time I begin to think I'd pay for a subscription, I read something like this and come to the conclusion you guys are no better than Rush Limbaugh, just the other side.
You certainly said a lot of things that people have been thinking, but were afraid to say. Yeah, kill yourself O.J. I hope it's a miserable death. That being said, I'm still not convinced that Judith Regan isn't a media whore.
Would like to have a word with you, Debra.
Like the author, I avoided exposure to the whole OJ saga from the beginning (as much as anyone possibly could.) It's a point of pride, I confess. I'm kind of disappointed in myself for reading this article, but I found the title too tempting.
And now that I've read it, that's enough OJ for me for at least another 12 years.
During the O.J. trial I averted my eyes for fear of turning to stone. The awful, awesome thing about this disaster was the way it seemed to corrupt everything and everyone it touched. With the poisoned "Memo to O.J.: Kill yourself," Salon joins the list of the lost.
Anyone who makes the self-righteous readers of Salon this mad surely must be landing s few of her punches.
Way to go! Keep shooting from the hip!
that was awful.
Judith Regan plays the victim card, and Debra Dickerson swallows it hook line and sinker.
DD:
-"Ironically" calls herself a genius.
-Asks, what's the big deal about OJ?
-Calls herself perhaps the only "sentient" person to avoid the trial.
-Found herself, a decade ago, a sound enough judge of the OJ debacle, despite avoiding it wholesale, to securely say, "OJ should have killed himself."
-Maintains that OJ should STILL kill himself; adds to it vitriolic, and disturbingly jovial, suggestions of suicide method. Exhorts (paraphrase), "OJ, kill youself for the good of your children." Equates him, on "humorous" religious grounds, with the Husseins (BURN IN HELL!). What the fuck?
-Talks about the ways "blacks" and "whites" received the trial, media blitz. That's right, "blacks" and "whites," with no caveat of generalization. What the fuck?
-Applies to OJ a term her embittered single mother friend applies to the "limping, deficient crop of men" available to single mothers. What the fuck? Talk about editorializing. How could men not want YOU? Oh, yeah, your sense of entitlement leads you to compare them to OJ...?
-Claims OJ's suicide will somehow "purify" the populace. His death will not only gratify our morbid fixation and desire for revenge, but also make us cleaner people (OJ = herpes). What the fuck?
-Threatens to kill Regan if she's lying...? What the fuck?
-Makes OJ symbolic of abuse against women, and his shame a victory for abused women. What the fuck?
-"It takes a white woman to clear up a racial mess she didn't make." What the fuck? Which is it, a racial mess or a gendered mess? What mess is cleared up? What is better?
-"We may all be dancing on OJ's grave." What the fuck? You seem just AWFUL. Maybe you should just go back to ignoring this particular issue.
The anger against Debra Dickerson is completely misplaced.
And if anything, she was too kind on OJ.
OJ needs to have both of his feet cut off. The feet should be placed in a blender, and mixed at highspeed for 6 minutes.
Then OJ should be made to drink his feet.
Then he should be tied to the back of a Ford Bronco, and have his bloody stumps driven over a hot, gravelly road.
Then a football, with a bomb concealed inside, should be sewn into his abdomen.
Then he should be interviewed on Fox. And just when a preview for "Prison Break" flashes across the bottom of the screen, his guilty, bruno magli-wearing body should be blown to a million little pieces.
Now that's good TV.
i didn't know so many humorless yuppies read salon.com.
and those of you complaining about her description of "remnants": if you're an adult male offended by that your ego is showing, pull your pants up.
Hell was that? Dickerson is a mess. Wow.
What the hell was that? Why did I read that? What a dreadful, bitter, bile-filed spewful excuse for an essay. The title was interesting, but what a hellacious output!
"Remnants?" REMANTS?! Where on earth did that come from? Christ on a bike. You're a horrible person.
from start to finish
Judith Regan pulls out the "I was abused but nobody ever knew about it before" card when she's catching heat for the OJ book and Dickerson not only falls for it but gives Regan credit for making him "confess".
I'm sure Regan cashed the checks though. She and OJ are laughing all the way to the bank.
I get the first thing that comes to your mind but is this really worth publishing? It's the kind of screed that should stay on your personal blog or something.
