As an old soldier from an ancient war I an appalled at what America has become. I am ashamed that these people are allowed to wear the uniform of what was once a proud part of America. This must be condemmed as must the administration's torture policy.
I haven't even read the article yet - just read the headline.
Over a week ago, the cartoon issue was all over Europe, and logging in onto Salon I get greeted with "What I like to watch." Somewhere down the page, shamefully hidden, some article, published by the German "Spiegel." And even more hidden, a link to the cartoons.
Now I get this prominently featured headline, and it does not read "Why we are publishing the cartoons." Had the cartoon issue been featured similar prominently, and the pictures honestly shown, I would find Salon's stance more believable. This way it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
You people, and the countless other cattle mooing around out there across our country, make me physically ill. So, what the detainees at Abu Ghraib went through is no big deal, huh? I guess in that case you wouldn't mind if someone subjected your wife/fiance/girlfriend and/or kids to the same treatment.
Oh, but they're innocent.

While I am not "ashamed" to be an American, I am ashamed of America as it is currently constituted both socio-culturally and socio-politically. It is an almost wholly malevolent force in the world today, and it gets the "almost" only because of the few brave and good citizens who strive to make the world a better place, whatever their occupation and wherever they may be.
The rest of you can go fuck yourselves, preferrably with a sharp, metallic object. And speaking of objects up one's ass, I suppose you gibbering idiots think having a banana crammed up one's rectum is a "mild", perhaps even "pleasant" experience? Sure it is.
And now a Kudo to Patricia Schwarz for pointing out the glaring national disgrace that is prison abuse. Talk about the chickens coming home to roost - those folks are right here, and society now owes THEM a debt.
Thank you for being brave enough to publish this photos. I am a suburban mom caught up in the everyday life of just raising my family. As a faithful subscriber, I was suprised to hear about Salon on NPR. After hearing why there was a news story about my favorite website, I felt proud to have my money supporting Salon.
The unchristian and abhorrent crimes against humanity at Abu Ghraib need to be denounced, loudly, by the American people.
As a mother, I shudder thinking of the mothers whose children were tortured in Abu Ghraib. As an American, I am angry at my government sanctioning this horror. Action against our leaders must take place. From the president down, justice needs to prevail.
I will contine to be a premium subscriber. Thank you Salon.
I find it hypocritical that you decided to publish these pictures, but not the Danish cartoons.
I have no sympathy for the torturers and I think these pictures deserve to be aired. But, so do the cartoons.
By your choices you have let the terrorists win. They get to be portrayed as the victims that they are - but they got their way in not being shown as the misguided thugs that they are as well.

Until then, Salon.com is just another mouthpiece for the hysterical left, and just as the hysterical left is looking for anything to attach itself to, so too follows your website.
Selective journalism exposes a bias and limits your readership, credibility and exposure.
There is a significant difference between the Danish cartoons and the torture at Abu Ghraib. As someone pointed out, the United States, neither its government nor its people, had anything to do with the Danish cartoons. We however have had everything to do with the torture at Abu Ghraib. One is not equivalent to the other. Apparently that's too difficult a concept for some of you to understand. The entire Muslim world is not tuned into Salon.com. I suspect few are. A great many Americans however are and that's the point. As Americans you should be appalled at the behavior of your government for if not outright mandating torture at least giving it the old wink and nod. You should cry out at the level to which YOUR government has sunk in pursuit of its ends in your name. How does torture make us better than the enemy? What unaccountable damage has been done to the reputation and standing of the United States among the nations of the world? This just makes us bullies because torture has been shown to be ineffective in intelligence gathering. That Salon decided to publish these pictures is irrelvant to Muslims because they've already seen them. The minute these pictures were put out by the Australian media, they were all over the Middle Eastern world. By publishing these pictures, Salon is doing its job as a member of the free press in a republic. It's informing the citizens about the behavior of their own government in the hopes that you will act like an informed member of society and do what you can to correct the government. In a republic, that's your duty. Salon has little if any way to influence how the Danes behave.
you may call it News!, I call it Peep Show! More so since these are left over of a past outrage.
Revealing God's Mistakes is much easier than showing Devil's Truth, like Beheadings, Tongues Cutting, Eyes Burning etc etc! even accurate cartoons.
Let's assume your intentions were noble. Let's say it's hard to prove that part of the question! Yet I have acces to one Secret Tool which I am willing to reveal to you now, listen carefully: Actions caused by Stupidity have the exact same results of Actions caused by Pure Viciousness! There is a third part to this equation: they are equal to the actions caused let's say by any over-worrying Puritan possessive mother!!! It's some kind of Slavery, it's our Jail!!! if you authorize the analogy!
So now I'll go back to my previous letter! Take a break, change your plans, take a year, find the Ultimate Truth, then go back to public life!!! For Yourself, then for the sake of the well-being of the world!!!
