Look at the facts. The vast majority of Americans have had no wage growth (adjusted for inflation) since 1973. There is an obvious correlation between the reduction of taxes for the rich and the fall of earning power for everyone else. Taxes were cut for corporations and rich people, and wages stagnated for most Americans. The gap between rich and poor and rich and the middle increased as those taxes declined.

Outsourcing increased as those taxes declined. Contrary to the bullshit fed to Americans by Grover Norquist and company, job losses don't happen because of high taxes. Most corporations don't pay taxes now, according to the GAO. Lowering taxes doesn't help the economy. We actually had our best run of high economic performance and high wage growth for the middle class between 1947-1973, when the top rate was 91% for most of that time, falling all the way down to 70% in 1964. Corporations during that time paid much higher taxes as well.

And Clinton raised taxes and the 90s saw a better economy than Reagan's, Bush Sr's, or Dubya's. Dubya, in fact, left us the worst economy since the Great Depression, and he cut taxes like a madman.

In short, things have gotten worse in America as tax rates have fallen for the rich and corporations. Of course, the rich are doing great. Better than ever. But MOST Americans have gotten the shaft because of Reaganomics, and our debt climbed to 11 trillion because of those tax cuts.

We need to raise taxes to balance the budget and pay down the debt, along with improving our infrastructure, investing in clean, green energy and transportation, and Single Payer health care for everyone. Taxes SHOULD go up, and they should go up on the very people who have benefited so much from trickle down for 30 years:

The rich.

Time for an economic revolution in America. Time to leave right wing bullshit far behind and become a truly progressive nation.

The Sarah Palin mess should remove any doubt that there is a core membership in the Republican party that accepts neither democracy nor a republic as an acceptable form of government. If W were not enough evidence of their contempt for our form of government, Palin certainly should be. These people believe in plutocracy and need presidents who are not too bright so that they can promote their agenda.
