"As far as I can discern, the content of his/her posts are variations on the following themes:
"You liberals think you're so smart, but really you're stupid
You liberals are all too immature to understand or participate in the political operation of your own government
You liberals think you're superior to anyone who disagrees with you, but really you're the inferior ones
George W. Bush, Jr. is a great man, and someday he'll be vindicated
Aaaah! Stop cursing! Stop cursing! Oh, my ears! Ooowwww!"

Exactly! (I am not sure what the last line signifies; it seems to be some sort of attempt at humor, or perhaps a fragment from another, unrelated conversation inserted by mistake. Or perhaps song lyrics of some kind?)
I don't mean to single out Mr. Conason and the assorted juveniles here for the criticisms paraphrased above, since the same phenomena are observable today everywhere one bothers to look in the Big Media in the U.S. and abroad. The problem is ubiquitous, pandemic, interstitial at what one used to be able to call without irony the top levels of the Western democracies. It is at the top level that the actual dumbing down has taken place. The ignorance and presumption of journalists, of course, is nothing new. But since the Sixties something more has been added to make the brew dished out dangerously toxic to unsuspecting readers.
How to describe, how to account for this decline of standards? One might commence with the famous Long March through the institutions and the gutting of the Western canon to produce a generation of ignoramuses indoctrinated with the fluff and easy pickings of feel-good politics and cheap grace. The hard work and discipline of genuine education was eliminated to make room for collectivist yet profoundly self-indulgent fantasy ideology in which one was distinguished not by what he actually did or did not do but by his public profession of faith in what often was little more than sentimentality and political correctness. Public tastes and values plummeted and tanked across the board and entertainment devolved from the instructional to the infective as susceptible minds, instead of being improved, were deliberately manipulated, exploited and depraved for profit.
Of course every personal malfeasance and indiscretion was supposed to be annulled and remitted by adherence to the proper ideology, hence one was free to lead as abandoned and even vicious a life as he desired, so long as he continued to proclaim the proper political pieties and platitudes he had picked up along the way. There was even some additional honor connected with "transgressing the boundaries" by sordid, immoral, illegal or at the least shocking and repellent behavior, provided only that one took pains to publicize his personal faithfulness to the regnant collectivist cant and to distinguish himself as a friend of humanity and champion of the oppressed. All of which is really just teenage growing pains and bother until the sheer magnitude of the thing broke through the dikes and restraining walls of civilization and flooded out in months and years what had taken centuries and millennia to create.
The children then began to rule the world - and with what results we now can clearly see.
But the task was not complete for the hateful Reality Principle itself remained to be vanquished in order for the reign of the Pleasure Principle to continue unmolested. Despite the fantastic victory of the Children of the Id, the prophets and apostles of the ugly Reality Principle continued to stalk the land and bring sadness into the hearts and minds of the children even in the hour of their triumph.
They were known as Republicans and they were mean, and cruel, and warlike, and greedy, and they came preaching all sorts of rules and norms and things like right and wrong and good and bad. And they kept trying, even though they had little success, to rain upon the parade of the Children of the Id. The mean old fuddy-duddy Republicans wanted the frisky, frolicking Children of the Id to shape up, to stand up straight, to take life and personal behavior a bit more seriously, and to learn to act their age again instead of presuming to tell adults what to do.
What were the happy, happy Children to do? They sniggered and giggled and uttered their usual favorite dirty words and gave their three-fingered salutes, they mooned the meanies and barked at them and yelled for them to go away and leave them in peace. We doan need no steenkin Reality! is what the Children said to the mean old Republicans. We think Reality is mean. We are going to make it against the law! But the Republicans would not leave. They took the high offices and held the Presidency. The happy children trembled and sighed and wept and worried.
Then came The One. The One came to set the happy children free from the danger of the Reality Principle! The happy children cheered and cheered and stamped their feet and clapped and shouted until they were dizzy and hoarse and couldn't even stand up any longer. The One! The One! The Liberator!
The cons say she's "folksy" and they can "relate to her". Well, gee, that tells me nothing about her ability to solve the countries problems now does it? Nor have any of you shown that YOU are qualified to be leader of the most powerful nation on Earth so why would I care if you can relate to her?
They say she opposes abortion. Well, if that were the only issue in this election that argument might mean something. But for most of us, abortion was resolved in 1973 and we see no need to keep digging up what should be a dead issue.
They say they like her faith. I don't really see how beleiveing the world was created 6000 years ago has any relevance to solving complex problems but I could see how it would get in the way of listening to advice that contradicts what you want to beleive. Not exactly a strength now is it?
Finally they like to point out that Obama has just as little experience. Well, I guess I have to give you that one but then if experience is being taken off the table as a qualification to be leader the that only leaves judgement doesn't it? So let's look at Sarah Palins judgement vs. Obamas.
Obama knew he needed to show he understood he was a little green so he nominated Joe Biden to be his running mate. Palin had to be reminded BY BIDEN during the debate that the mullahs are the ones who actually run Iran. This after she already tried to change the subject when the housing crisis came up and even said before the debate began that she wasn't going to answer any questions directly.
Now,does that make her stupid? Not necessarily, but it does show she doesn't have the ability to deal with complex problems after being given A WEEK IN ADVANCE TO PREPARE FOR THEM! So which party is really overlooking their candidates lack of qualifications?
You don't like being called stupid but your reasons for supporting your candidates are all emotional or religious. Not exactly showing sound judgement are you?
