They should be furious and insulted that McCain or actually the RNC think they are that stupid. That to counteract the multi-cultural appeal that Obama has they need to pander to women, pander to the far right-wing fundametalist, and pander to beer-gut rednecks.
It IS dumming down. And constantly referri ng to hockey moms insults the hardworking women - married or single - who want strong leadership and someone who is versed in how to address the fiscal problems of their lives.
It IS dumming down. And constantly referring to Joe Six-pack brings a visual of some beer-drinking, bigotted red neck as who they want to represent not all the wonderful myriad of hardworking men who make up this nation
It IS dumming down. And stressing that they think that her appeal is that mainstreet America can relate to her shows how dumb they really are.
Yep, you're unlike the Irish that I've known and I've lived with a few and loved a few. So, your narrative is odd AND unappealing.
I can see why you'd keep Salon a secret. If I was a flowergirl for the necons marrying of Jesus and hate, I'd keep it a secret too.
But I'll leave you be. You'll find someone else to dismiss you. You always do, don't you?
"By their potty mouths ye shall know them."
Thank you. Sincerely, thank you. I knew that nerve was in there somewhere... it really was nice of you to show me where to find it.
Telly ol' pal... I do have "a penchant... for the use of vulgar/scatological/bad language in public and on inappropriate occasions." And although I don't suspect you meant it as a compliment, your classification puts me in company with John McCain, Dick Cheney and ol' rubberbutt Bush Jr. (their own predeliction for potty-mouthed expressiveness is well-documented)... so you can't really fault me for taking your pinky-lifting umbrage as your own queer form of high praise.
But Sir (or Madam)! You err in your analysis: I'm not "unable to refrain from inserting four letter words into (my) speech and writing..." I just like dropping the f-bomb now and again. It's fun. You should try it.
Moreover, by speculating that my occasional forays into the deployment of a pungent expletive, here or there, is "the result of heavy cannabis abuse in some cases and of prolonged exposure to bad music in others", you unjustly wound my cultural sensibilities, Sir (or Madam)!
Why just this morning I was relaxing to Monteverdi 's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria on my iPod, while snorting crystallized heroin on the steps of my neighborhood church.
...we-elll, technically... I was snorting heroin off my girlfiend's naked ass at the time, but I assure you we were both on the front steps of the church!
Come on, Telly... say it: "Fuck."
Or if you'd rather not break form, you could just Tetris up another tower of indignant attempts at chastisement. That would be only slightly less entertaining.
I second all that.
You worry about the attacks on Palin. You would like them to stop. However, never once did I see you call for a halt to attacks upon Hillary Clinton. In fact, I recall you being quite harsh towards Clinton.
I worry about attacks on Palin specifically because they make her seem stronger than she is. Why empower her? The right gets a huge boost out of our attacks, turning them into "the left is always the attack dog" or "Poor Palin, look how they gang up on her" and of course, the "liberal elite" nonsense. Notice that Obama and Biden never fall into that trap. They know how the machine works, and they don't give it fodder.
I don't think I was harsh towards Clinton, though it seemed to me that this site was unfairly deriding Obama every chance it got while making Hillary seem like divinity incarnate, or something. As an Obama supporter, I resented it.
But the central issue was that it was very possible that Clinton would win the nomination over Obama, something I didn't want (though I would have voted for her in November had she become the party candidate). So it was important to me to support Obama strongly, and to show why Clinton wasn't the best choice and why Obama is.
That is not remotely the situation with Palin. I see no possibility that McCain-Palin will make it to the White House. Nor is this site, or any other, heaping great praise on her. Who, anywhere, is praising Sarah Palin? I guess some of the hard-right sites. But any of the major networks, or papers, or blogs? Not that I can see. There isn't really anything that needs to be stood up to.
If I thought Palin was a real threat, I'd probably post articles, responses, analysis of her failings, political and personal, every day. I don't see that as the case. The only thing giving her a strong shot at the White House right now is, ironically, the left's continued attacks. The more we attack her, the more the right will stubbornly want to show us that, darn it, she's a great politician after all, and the liberal know-it-alls don't know anything. And they will be goaded into working hard to get her into office. Why do we want to help that?
I'd rather consign her to the dustbin with the rest of yesterday's news.
I am starting to believe again that there is hope for us.
After the last 8 years of nightmare, I could not see the end of the dark tunnel.
I like a lot of those very progressive intelligent posts, but the ones that makes me laugh the most are by Raise up.

"Well it got you to blather 586 posts about it. Mission Accomplished."
Aw, c'mon, Screaming Steam Hammers of Hate! It's Sunday pm. What were you gonna do otherwise?
I think we can push this thread to the 100 page mark. All we have to do now is goad Teleologicus into a few more posts, and we're there. Let's do this.
BTW- you really ought to start a black metal band with a name like that. Awesome...
