The dumbing down of the GOP

Why aren't more conservatives disgusted that their party nominated a person devoid of qualifications for the vice presidency (again)?

The letters thread is now closed.

Sullivan's take

He call's it "From Thatcher to Palin"

Thatcher remains the standard. She was not above using feminine wiles in charming individuals; but in public, in debate, in the Commons, she beat men at their own game, using nothing but knowledge, forensics, expertise, argument and courage.

From Thatcher to Palin is not a slide downwards for conservative women. It's a free-fall. And McCain did it.

define: mav·er·ick

mav·er·ick:

n.

1. An unbranded range animal, especially a calf that has become separated from its mother, traditionally considered the property of the first person who brands it.

2. Someone who refuses to conform to established standards of conduct; blunt and aggressive; generally oblivious to their effect on others

So, given that both McCain and Palin were branded long ago, they should be considered the property of the same people who got this country into such a mess.

America continues its move to the right...

...but Salon and Barry are still preaching from the left. Quick somebody tell Buffett and Gates in their northwest cocoons. Jest cuz everbody on the left coast votes for wealth redistribution and taxes...they don't want to be left out.

They don't care

My mother and I are the sole Democrats in an otherwise Republican family, and none of the others are stupid (almost all of them have college degrees) or even anti-intellectual (I have always felt appreciated for being smart by my family). My father, when I expressed incredulity that he could have watched Bush's 1st 2004 debate and still want to vote for him, said quite plainly, "Bush couldn't debate a paper bag." But honestly, Republicans just don't care how smart their leader is, because all they want is for the president to veto tax increases and vigorously fight any bad guy who interferes with American interests. And Sarah Palin can do that. Dan Quayle could have done that. Hell, a ten-line computer program could do that. Or a paper napkin with the words KILL TAX/KILL BAD GUY written on it. If you appreciate complexity in the real world, you don't vote Republican.

Palin

Its Sunday 5 October 2008 and I've just watched the Sunday political discussions - Now, Meet the Press etc. What is most disturbing is when the Republican leaning commentators such as Pat Bucanan are asked who won the Vice President debate they claimed that Gov. Palin won. This is apparently based on the fact that this time she was able to string her sentences together without disconnects. I don't know about you but this is the most frightening thing about this country. That there is so many people that can ignore the real issues and claim that her lack of substance, but the fact that she could talk without funbling, and had connected with the american public. Well she did not connect with this "american public" she is not only unqualified but totally ignorante as well. More frightening is the fact that the Republican party believes that she will help them. No wonder that this country has failed over the last eight years, it is obvious that the Republican part not only does not understand the problems of this country, but really does not care - as long as they can stay in power and assure that their wealth supporters do not get hurt. Worse still is that Senator McCain has sold himself to this view, and it is obvious that he is an angry, confused old man. If he wins the election this country is lost.

Sarah Palin sleeps with unAmerican monster!

How about Sarah Palins association with Todd Palin, who was recently a part of the Alaskan Independence Party?

The Alaskan Independence Party's founder Joe Vogler publicly stated "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

Will Sarah Palin promise to break all ties with the unAmerican radical Todd Palin?

re:- Abscissa

right on. The whole Republican ethos boiled down to it's essence. 'nuff said.

What is Change

Why is it you always attach Palin and her experience and neve Obama's. Amazing how everytime anyone asks a Liberal or Democrat, name one thing Obama has dome of any significance they get the deer in the headlight look, yet they are sure of one thing and that's they want change. What are we going to change. We've been terrorist free for 8 years, amen. We live better now than we ever have in this Country. 90% of Americans walk around with money in their pocket, packing Casio's, Sporting events, nascar, amusement parks, recreational areas. Americans have freedom, flat screen tv's, drive fancy cars, live in fancy houses, and cell phones that text, Ha. What else is there, why do we want to change?

Here's the change we need. Get rid of the talking heads that broadcast and write propaganda brainwashing Americans into thinking we have it bad abd change is just around the corner.

You writers in Salon are pettiful biased, report the news for a change.

@ Norbit boy

Your withering comeback:

"You're projecting rancey."

No, Norb, a projection is what you do when you pretend to know my mind. What I do is called analysis.

What I do is read all your malicious spew, evaluate your cock-eyed worldview and note the incredibly foul demeanor with which you conduct yourself.

Then I reach a conclusion. And my conclusion is that you're a world-class, A#1 jerk. Aw, let's be generous and call you a jerk-and-a-half, you've earned it.

That's my conclusion, my analysis.

P.S. Also, please note the first two syllables of the word analysis. In referring to you, such an embedded etymological referent is entirely appropriate.

Here's a link to Obama's legislative record. Read it if you want to.

It's on Daily Kos (a lefty site so beware-there may be subliminal terrorist messages hidden within).

Rance Spergl

"In approximately 6-7 years, the GOP will cease to exist."

Your mouth to god's ear, Rance.

The GOP will self-destruct as a direct result of it's own pandering

By appealing to the most extreme ends of the base they have painted themselves into a corner where their candidates are caricatures and their platform nothing more than a series of wedge issues that promote the fake culture wars we think that we're "discussing" currently. They've become such a joke, their presidential candidates looked like the Seven Dwarves. Hint: McCain is Grumpy. But hey, now they've got Snow White!!!
