The dumbing down of the GOP

Why aren't more conservatives disgusted that their party nominated a person devoid of qualifications for the vice presidency (again)?

The letters thread is now closed.

Gehgoeson & AJCalhoun

Why thank you both for your kind words, ( he said blowing his finger nails and rubbing them on his lapel), it was nothing.

It was in fact not only pleasure but a British ancestral duty. You see it was us Brits that revived the Blues back in the sixties when you guys had temporarily overlooked them. But no matter there are things you Americans can do that no one else can. Which is why we love the best of you and what you do and needed it as well. Wouldn't it be good if when Hank Paulson asked for 700 billion someone had just handed him 'The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death' instead and told him use this instead its much more valuable.

And on matters of true value that only Americans can do try this and be proud,

only the truth--"it's about time we had somebody down there in Washington who is like us"?

We have had someone "down there in the Washington" who is like you for 8 years. If you're happy with the results, vote for McPalin & crack open another six pack and go back to your cave.

Even Alaska has second thoughts...

A little over a week ago, the largest political rally in the entire history of Alaska -- more than 1700 people, many who know her personally, paraded in protest of Palin and all she stands for. "Hockey Moms Against Palin" and "Palin Doesn't Speak for Me" were some of the signs displayed prominently.

It is not remotely possible that the USA could even begin to repair our devastated international relationships, with this painfully ignorant parody-in-lipstick, "acting" in any prominent government position.

Wake up, People! The sly winks, aversion to facts, slang, and poor diction are NOT presidential material, and above all, the vice-president must be ready to step into that position at a moment's notice. Haven't we had enough of that behavior in the last 8 years???

It dates to 1980

The Republican affection for steerable mediocrty in the White House dates back to 1980, when Republicans embraced a vacuous and un-curious media figure for President.

Reagan has achieved such cult status among conservatists that it is easy to forget who he was - a genial mouthpiece for the oligarchic Right, and one whose modest intellectual (INTELLECTUAL!) powers went into decline after he was shot.

Reagan, Dan Quayle, President Feeb, and now Beehive Barbie, they are surely milestones in a path of choices whose acceptibility to the Republican "base" is in inverse proportion to capacity to govern.

I would like to believe that Palin is the end, the nadir, that begins turning things around. If the goal were to elect effective leaders, that might be true. But I see no evidence that conservatists - those who seem actually to be running the G.O.P. - are prepared to give up their principle of installing genial mouthpieces who will do their bidding.

If anything, the admission implicit in McCain's shilling to these very people by mouthing tax platitudes in which he cannot possibly believe suggests the opposite remains true.

Delusional

Lets see Palin represents the hardworking, average Joe's desire to keep more of his money, and get government off our our backs..yeah I get it! Lets see we have a record deficit, huge entitlement cost, a war in the middle east (that could eventually cost us 2 TRILLION FUCKING DOLLARS), the newly formed Medicaid Drug plan(BILLIONS) and the recent bailout of the banking industry(BILLIONS AGAIN). All of which was supported, and endorsed by a REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT and up until 2004 a REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED HOUSE AND SENATE!!!

Yeah its the Democrats fault!

Obama also "created"

Although I will vote for him, given the choices at issue, where did Obama come from? He has never actually won a contested election has he? His experience is extremely thin yet here he is close to being elected President. One need only look at his Chicago "handlers" to shudder at what lurks behind the curtain . . . that and the influence of Zbigniew Brzezinski who basically is responsible for creating "Muslim Fundametalism" thru his work under Carter - - the whole thing is nothing but a "fix" with rotten choices all around. Obama'a action on pushing the "bailout" for the Wall Street gangster/banksters shows us all we really need to know of what we can expect from him . . . If McCain weren't an absolute nightmare who suppressed the rescue of POWs along with John Kerry, for whatever their reasons (billions in reparations owed Viet Nam that were not paid resulting in the POW/hostages not being released and then the ensuing cover-up . . . ) I would be voting against Obama and not the other way around . . . you don't vote "for" anyone anymore . . . .

@zenhead

Thanks for clearing that up.

Palin's personally opposed to abortion for herself, she doesn't force that view on others.

I had no idea she was PROCHOICE, because that's my view, too. I don't want to force my views on other and prevent them from getting to make a choice.

So is Palin going to do the typical thing the RW always does? Just pretend they care about abortion until after the election? Or is she authentic in her pro-life views.

Racism hides in the shadows.

It’s amazing how many people that write on these sites can barely hide their racism. They might use all sorts of code words or make comments about intellect or somebody’s church, or their hometown and neighborhood, even their name, but what it comes down to is pure unmitigated racism dressed up as discussion. I would have thought by now that all of that kind of hate would have been bred out of our society. Live in hope….

Anybody in Government with an 80% Approval Rating as Governor --- We Have to Listen.

Continuing from my post at 11:33AM today, I think anytime someone who is presented to us who has an approval rating of 80% as Governor of one of the largest (area) states in the nation; we have to listen.

And I mean no disrespect to Jesus of whom I am a strong follower and believer, but even Jesus had to fight to get his message out, and he wasn't anywhere near an 80% approval rating.

Sarah Palin I believe is just what we need down there in Washington. She'll be a major help.
