Sarah Palin has guts, grit, and determination. She also values life and faith. What the talking heads, including Conason, do not understand, is that most Americans would rather have a person like this, whose judgment and values reflect our own, than a Harvard-educated elite whose judgment and values do NOT reflect our own. What's so tough to understand about that, Joe? We're looking for Captain Kirk, not Mr. Spock.
Also, Sarah Palin DOES represent the advancement of feminism. Not Blue State Feminism, whose policy positions lead 70% of American women to state they do not believe they are feminists. No, what Sarah has ignited is Red State Feminism, determined to wrest feminism from the monopoly of those with Blue State views. Red State Feminism will be a potent force to reckon with in American politics in the future, thanks to Sarah Palin. And in one fell swoop, Sarah Palin has destroyed forever the old misogyny brand of conservatism that infected the GOP ranks for too long. She has done more good in the last 7 weeks than anyone else in this campaign.
So go ahead, knock her. Your condescension only endears her to us the more--why? Because we know you would say the very same things about us.

Hi, Joe, Sadly, your article could as aptly be titled "The dumbing down of America". As a thinking female, fiscal conservative, social Progressive I am appalled. Personally, every time I hear the term "Joe six-pack" I want to throw up. Palin is constantly being shown wagging around a baby. What is she going to do, sit the child on her lap while she fixes all that is broken in Washington?? The woman's personal demeanor doesn't command respect. When Palin met one of the heads of state at the UN he flirted with her. Is this what America wants in a Vice President? Not this American. I was not a Hillary Clinton fan but there are a great many females in Government that could better represent this country than Sarah Palin. Your article was right on point.
There is only one "numbskull" and dumbass here, and it is you. You are just a typical eastern socialist elitist who believes that government handouts are the salvation of everyone. Mortgages and health care, right! Gov. Palin came up through the ranks on her own with no handout from anyone or any government entity. But of course idiots like you just can't believe that is possible in this unfair, capitalist country called the United States of America. So you and your leftist stooges insult the intelligence of us conservatives out here in the heartland because you just can't believe that we don't want anything from anyone and just want to be able to keep what we earn and live our lives the way we want to. What a novel idea! Keeping our own money! Screw your brand of socialism and make no mistake that we truly hate it and will fight to stop your attempts to make our country into a euro socialist utopia. Gov. Palin represents what we believe as rugged individualists and independent people. Go Sarah, GO!!!
Part of the reason people despise dumbasses like you is that it is not a case of your keeping your own money -- it is a case of the blue states keeping theirs and letting you starve you red-state shit-kicker.
Even Palin has a a higher IQ than you and knows that Alaska lives of the Federal tit -- hell she asks for the earmarks. And net transfers to "Red States" from the North East Coast, California and Washington are what stop your economy being the third world place it would be if the taxes you asswipes were willing to pay were what covered all of your infrastructure. Already you are dumb states, the stats show so, because you won't pay for schools.
You sir are an insult to the intelligence of the United States.
The fact that she's also crazy and dull is icing on the cake. GO USA GO USA !!!!!
It’s been said over and over again that tapping a shallow, uneducated person like Sarah Palin to be in one of the most important offices in the world shows John McCain’s cynicism and desperation. I think it shows more than that. I think his choice of a running mate brings into question his mental health. Do we want a mentally ill or senile president and Miss Congeniality running the nation when the very fabric of our culture is fraying? When people are wondering about their retirement investments? When we are in an endless war?
John McCain is honor bound (if he has any left) to release all of his health records or else he must be cast aside once and for all. His behavior of the past two months would seem to indicate some kind of personal disconnect. He is behaving like an action figure when what we really need is a plan and a certain amount of somber reflection. Sarah Palin is acting as if she just can’t wait to get John McCain out of the way.
Golly, Joe, I guess it's the same reason more liberals aren't disgusted that their party nominated a person devoid of qualifications for the presidency.
I can't believe that you even ask the question about a VP nominee when the Dems have nominated someone that has no clue on how to even run a meeting for Pres. How about an article on Senator Obama and what his qualifications are - possibly that Mr. Biden is more qualified and he will actually be running the country because the Pres can't?
The fear with Mrs. Clinton at first was that perhaps former Pres. Clinton would actually be running things, now MY fear is that Mr. Biden will be doing the same until Senator Obama starts to get a clue.
Keep the totally slanted poisoned commentary coming, more proof that the Dems have a difficult time trying to get it right.
I like Sarah Palin. Maybe it's about time we had someone down there in Washington --- who is like us. Someone who has had and may still have major family survival issues that mom and dad talk about over the kitchen table. And someone who has gone out and shot a moose for the freezer for food. Whose husband has gone out on dangerous sea fishing explorations in the Bering Sea. These are my type of people. People who know how to "fight" and win.
And recently as the new Governor someone who has already shown she can take on special interests and win. That has all been reported. And then, someone in Government who has an approval rating in Alaska of some 80%. I have never heard of that before in government anywhere. I didn't think that was possible.
Excuse me, but even when Jesus was with us here some 2000 years ago, even he didn't have an 80% approval rating.
I suggest we let things move right along here to 11/4.
For myself, I am voting McCain/Palin, and then Democratic all the rest of the way. We need a strong Democratic Congress; but I think the McCain/Palin team will be great working out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, "the White House". Thank you.
