The real dumbing down is occurring in the media. I am astounded at how many articles play the same themes and use the same buzzwords and phrases in talking about John McCain and Sarah Palin. Worse, many of these phrases are handed down from the Obama campaign or taken from the candidates themselves. (For example, Mr. Conason parrots Joe Biden's "have to know the causes to address the problem.") And the double standard is glaring. Diction? What about Carter, Clinton and Johnson? Or is "southern-speak" somehow OK but Alaskan-talk not? And doesn't it worry Conason that Biden, who's supposed to provide the foreign policy expertise to Obama, asserts fantastically that the US and France drove Hezbollah from Lebanon? Or that Iraq should have been partitioned? And this is the guy who's Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee? It's dumb and wrong for Mr. Conason to ignore Biden's pattern of slipping in and out of reality.

I appreciated your post more than I can express at the moment. In fact, I'm a bit teary already, and haven't even snatched up the Kleenex yet to watch and listen to the "experience" of my being introduced to a great American. In fact, because I've spent a sleepless night, I'm going to let myself be introduced later today, after some sleep. I want to savor the meeting with a clearer head (but rest assured, my heart will be open). I do thank you for the way you have set things straight somehow, for me, about being an American--and about where our troubles are--just now.

And why haven't the Democrats recognized that their presidential candidate is all rhetoric based on no solid achievements? Obama's entire campaign is nothing more than a demand to be recognized as superior without any commensurate accomplishments. He's been a part-time law lecturer, a part-time attorney, a part-time IL senator, and a part-time U.S. junior senator. At the DNC, the only people speaking on his behalf were Michelle, Bill, Hillary, and Joe. Those who have known him for years have all been thrown under the "Obama express"--Wright, Farrakhan, Ayers, and Pfleger.

Those editors of the Harvard Law Review are underachievers. What were we Democrats thinking?
