The former press secretary's testimony about Valerie Plame is valuable, but only the press can uncover whether Bush and Cheney lied to investigators.

  • Jerking Off, Inside the Bubble

The Washington press corps has been engaged in a daisy-chain circle-jerk with the White House powers-that-be for seven to eight years. They despised Clinton and went after him for his personal peccadilloes — but have excused Bush on every post-September-11, rights-busting action he's taken. We can't explain any of this. Except, gosh, we think we see a pattern. Clinton adored women and apparently the guys in the WH press office couldn't stand that. But they excuse Bush violating the Constitution and the Geneva Conventions, because they have the hots for him. (See the July issue of Vanity Fair if you doubt us.) We would be tolerant of their homosexual tendencies if only they would be honest about them. But alas, they are not.

We are holding our breath until January 20. Maybe sanity will return then.

  • Two Mysteries Just Lying There

"Lying" in more ways than one.

The first, obviously, is the long-open question of who in the Bush administration lied when and about what. This is a mystery which screams for resolution, especially where the Valerie Plame incident is concerned, because it may well involve the highest price being exacted from someone. I think we all know who the chief suspect is.

The second mystery, one posed here by Conason, is just what the holy hell is wrong with the Washington press corps, that no one will ask a single salient question of anyone who could be cornered into either solving the first mystery or, at the very least, pointing the finger at someone who could. This act alone could shatter the wall which holds back every bit of damning information, causing the very walls of the White House to creak with conspiratorial guilt and, perhaps, even shame.

Who's got what on who? How is this situation even possible, that not a single reporter, investigative or otherwise, has the testicular fortitude to ask a single blunt question of those suspected of high crimes and misdemeanors unprecedented in this nation's history?

I have my theories, but none really makes sufficient sense. This is what I find truly frightening.

  • Givin'em Hell

I think this is some fine reporting, and a welcome relief from the election. Is something really happening?

It's not clear what's next. Will the press corp. pick up the cue? My God, is there any chance Cheney can be brought down before the clock strikes? That's what I want to know.

How about it coming out right around election time? It's wishful to imagine after what they've gotten away with.

It's been a sad sad eight years for the national press, but I see they're already giving Obama hell...

Do you think they can get back in the door, Joe?

  • Sideshow for Sure

I think the most rational thing to do is just assume the worst.

Cheney and Rove, possibly with Dubya's knowledge, masterminded a plan to out Plame as an agent as retribution against Joe Wilson. They carried it out.

As far as I'm concerned, that's "true enough." If it weren't true, I suspect someone would be able to explain what actually happened.

The fact that no one is willing to talk about what happened suggests that it was something they don't want us to know.

Why's that? Oh. 'Cause it was illegal. Right.

  • Shame on you, Scott!

I resent the fact that you, Scott McClellan, have sullied the proud McClellan name with your idiotic "tell all" book. Have you no sense of honor?

Have you no shame? No moral values? No pride in your ancestors?

Between you and a couple of other people I know, certain people bearing that noble name should be taken out behind the barn and given a good "talking to." SHAME ON YOU!

    *Disgusting*

  • Meet the new boss--same as the old boss . . .

McClellan's narrative is the same load of crap that we've gotten from every other former Bush Administration "whistle-blower": "George W. Bush is a good Christian man who was just mislead by 'certain people' who were pushing their own agendas. Every time [I] (insert author's/whistleblower's name) tried to warn him, every time [I] tried to set him straight, 'certain people' prevented me from doing so."

By pushing this tired, old lie, McClellan continues to enable Bush's pathology, while crying all the way to the bank.

Karl Rove has been proven right: Valerie Plame WAS "fair game." And he knew she was fair game because he knew that nobody would stand up to Bush and Cheney--and they never will.

  • Breaking News....

The House has just past a resolution granting retroactive immunity to Dick Chaney, Karl Rove and George Bush for their involvement in the Plame affair. The vote was 296 to 110. House speaker Nancy Pelosi denounced the measure as an "afront to the rule of law" Shortly thereafter she voted in favor of the resolution.

  • Cheney- A Life of Lies

Today the S&P100 list of stocks showed the year-to-date earnings for each company. The highest earner was Halliburton at 32.3%. I imagine that Cheney still holds those 444,000 stock options with Halliburton.

In 2004 an Army civilian procurement officer, Charles Smith, was fired because he failed to OK a KBR bill for over $1. Billion that had many discrepancies. No doubt Cheney had him fired. In addition, several American companies complained about no-bid contracts going to Halliburton. This is another instance of Cheney's work.

Joe Conason points out that Cheney is very likely the man pushing Scooter Libby, Cheney's Chief of Staff, to out Valerie Plame. Afterall it was Cheney who asked the CIA to send someone to Niger, Africa to check out the possible movement of yellow cake uranium to Saddam's Iraq. Unfortunately for Cheney, Joe Wilson's report came back negative. But that didn't stop Cheney from going on 'Meet The Press' and saying just the opposite in early 2002.

Cheney told the nation that the 'Iraq Insurgency' was in its last throes in 2004 or 2005. There was no need for Cheney to visit Iraq. For a pathological liar like Cheney, the truth is always what he says it is, regardless of the facts.

For the criminal syndicate that this administration has become, Dick Cheney is the god-father.

  • Lies and more Lies

Why are we surprised by McClellan's revelations? The Bush administration has done little but lie since 2001. Did George know about the lies? Of course he did!
