@ locait
My whole point is it doesn't fucking matter if it was intentional or not!
She was either malicious or intentional or whatever or she was unspeakably clumsy!
Racism thrives as much due to unspeakable clumsiness as it does from hood-wearing.
One is simply an extreme form of the other, but both divide society according to race and in Clinton's case, the impact of that is not only to divide, but to pit one group against the other.
Why am I even bothering?
I think I fell into your trap.

@weeping for brunnhilde
Seriously, I was just honestly asking, not looking for legitimate ways to use the word racist.
I like the idea that one should ask, are we being just. That question resonates deeply with me.
Thanks.

Blue Collar--Non College Educated
Being a Blue--Collar Dumb-Ass maybe it's only myself that I amaze when I see that the Clinton's have become so used to power that Bill and George H.W. have become best friends! Then My Dumb-Ass asks my Dumb-Ass self--Do you think Hillary would say or do anything to hang onto that power? And then my Dumb-Ass answers YES SHE WOULD--AND ALREADY HAS!!! And even a Dumb-Ass like me knows HOW PATHETIC SHE IS !!!!!

Was she also misspeaking about hardworking?
To me that's what is offensive, and it's obvious that it wasn't an accident. I find it outrageous that she would say that the majority of the voters (the ones who support her opponent) are anything less than hardworking Americans. It's way worse than saying, for example, that someone might be bitter because government has failed them.
Hey, Hillary, this is the Democratic primary you're running in. Everyone in this party is hardworking, your voters, Obama's voters, all of them. The party of leisure and sloth is the other one. But you know that. They're the ones who gave you that great Gas Tax Holiday idea, oh and the Iraq War. And, it goes without saying, if we had their rules you'd be the nominee.

Calm down and take two steps back, everybody...
The black man is starting to get angry.
(You know I'm joking, right, Weeping? God you're good tonight)

Comments aren't racist or clumsy
She was either malicious or intentional or whatever or she was unspeakably clumsy!
Racism thrives as much due to unspeakable clumsiness as it does from hood-wearing.
She was the opposite of "clumsy."
She did not want to take credit for black support she is not receiving, so she corrected herself.
If she left out "white" and claimed she was receiving "working, hard working Americans" the clear meaning would have been that blacks are not "hard working Americans, since everyone knows she isn't getting support from the black working class.
To leave out "whites" when pointing to non-college educated voters would be to suggest she was also getting non-college educated blacks, which she isn't. Thus, it would be a second dishonest claim.
Again, here is the quote. Remove references to "whites" and you are left with a false claim OR a racist claim against blacks. It's disgusting that she is being called a racist by people who obviously can't read or think because they're out for a cheap smear.
"that found how Senator Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me,"

Another fan
of weeping for brunnhilde.
I hope that your statements about not being Archie Bunker or George Wallace not meaning that one is not racist, and that the racist/not racist dichotomy is ultimately counter-productive, will be understood by more people.
I think it is something Obama understands and thus he doesn't throw around the label against his detractors, many of whom are outraged by Wright's "racism" without seeing the racism underlying their outrage.
I would love to be as positive and above the fray as Senator Obama, but I'm not. So I can't resist adding in a dig about Sentor Clinton who to my eyes is clearly race-baiting as she clings to her unsuccessful bid to get back into the White House. I wasn't the one who brought up George Wallace, but I certainly noticed her new southern accent when she gave her "victory" speech in Indiana. If she wanted to dispel the accusations that she hopes to win with the argument that a black man with an African name can't be embraced by the American people, she could use her bully pulpit to say so. Instead, she seems determined to be the last person who admits that he already has been.

I'm squeezing my eyes shut and hoping you took that right, Weeping...
referring to your previously published statements about always having to demonstrate restraint lest you're seen as an "angry black man."

It's the truth.....
I also don't believe that Clinton meant any racial attack on Obama, but she is telling the truth. Have we reached the point where if one tells an obvious truth that is uncomfortable to confront, the remedy is to kill the messenger with the charge of racial divisiveness.
It's interesting that the 30 page memo of the Obama campaign which maps out the strategy to take every Clinton statement, no matter how innocuous, and distort the meaning by charging racial innuendo was given the most fleeting attention by the media. Here was a smoking gun of dirty poliltics from the Obama camp, and the press turned its collective back on the story.
I'm sick of hearing every criticism of Obama resulting in a charge of racism against the critic.
On the other hand, I have seen the vicious disrespect visited upon Clinton by the media in ways they will never use to attack Obama or McCain.
Sorry, guys. You won't ever admit it even to yourselves, but that's the undercurrent of sexism that's been present throughout the entire campaign.
Save your lectures for Obama and his camp - they did a massive job of injecting race into this campaign and ruptured a deep relationship between the Clinton's and the African-
American community that can never be made whole again.
Talk about ruthless politicians!

Race card players brain dead?
To me that's what is offensive, and it's obvious that it wasn't an accident. I find it outrageous that she would say that the majority of the voters (the ones who support her opponent) are anything less than hardworking Americans. It's way worse than saying, for example, that someone might be bitter because government has failed them.
What are you talking about?
She is referring to electoral DEMOGRAPHICS she is winning. She included "white Americans" to clarify that whites are NOT the only ones who are hardworking.
Are you interpreting "hard working Americans, white Americans" to mean that she is equating the two concepts (because if you are you're an idiot), or do you understand she was narrowing the category of "hard working Americans" to describe the demographic she is winning and to make sure she doesn't imply the black hard workers are supporting her?
Can't you people read? Your eagerness to play the race card has made you unbelievably stupid.
