Hillary's reckless exploitation of racial division could split the Democratic Party over race -- a tragic legacy for the Clintons.

  • Let's see how gracefully Barrack Dukaki and his rabid supporters lose.

If their vulgar, insane behavior, lies and racial slurs (okay to be a racist if you're black of course) in the primary is anything to go by, I'm guessing they aren't going to be models of anything remotely classy for the first time in their lives.

What IS beyond any doubt is that it will definitively be someone elses fault. You know an entire countryof "racists" - now the southern expansion will include lifelong Democrats, Caliornia, NY and NJ, the upper midwest and the southwest too!

Of course it won't be that Obama's irrational, immature and illogical supporters engaged in revolting racism of their own and forced him to campaign way too far to the left to etch out a primary win and shove an inexperienced, hypocritical candidate down our throats.

No, it will be America's "racism" when he's rejected. Just watch.

  • @ Hutman, sorry but I don't have time to spend on one of your point by point arguments.

First, we have disagreed about the memo before. I simply do not believe the Obama campaigns subsequent statements due to the tactics used by his surrogates and supporters.

You said: I think the problem with your race-baiting argument is that there's really no equivalent for sexism. You can say people are sexists, but you never hear people saying that others are "sexism-baiting." If you're going to criticize Obama for what you call race-baiting, then where is the criticism for the sexism-baiting of Clinton supporters?

Well gee, there must be a reason why it isn't there. Joan has dealt, legitimately I think with the sexism on MSNBC. In threads, I have pointed out sexist language that Obama supporters were using. In other words, I stick to what I know, the use of language, but I don't call specific people flat out sexists because of their support for Obama. I do know that there has been lots of general sexism. Dataguyx is famous for some of his anti-Clinton remarks with sexist language which he also directs at Clinton supporters. You need only read him. Tompayne also called KateTex Kotex and has used many other sexist slurs. Many people have called Hillary a bitch. Nancianne has dredged up old scandals sexist, false and true.

I am not really sure what you are asking. The Clinton campaign as made no charges against the Obama campaign on sexism that I am aware of.

Some cries of sexism have been legitimate; others have not. Telling women that they're betraying other women if they don't vote for Clinton, as the NOW representative in New York did, is sexism-baiting.

NOW NY may have endorsed Clinton, but they don't represent her campaign. Perhaps you don't know how NOW works. I used to be a member of NOW and I can tell you that NOW (national) has very little control over individual chapters.

Or how about circulating videos of sexist comments made by media idiots and then implying that Clinton is a representative of the multiplicities of womanhood?

I don't know what you are referring to, but I do know that there are lots of available comments by many idiots. I see nothing wrong with a sort of collage. Media idiots are not responsible to the Obama campaign after all. It is not as if that would be accusing Obama of anything. As far as I know Oprah is the only woman who is "every woman."

I wouldn't say this is wrong, but imagine somebody doing the equivalent for Obama -- it would not sit well with you, I would think.

Oh, au contraire! I think he should put together something like that. I really do. :D

  • she's amoral

Of course she knew what she was saying. The Clintons have been fouling the air with their racial farts ever since Barack Obama put them in his rear view mirror. Ever since the results came in from the South Carolina and Indiana primaries the word "white" has surfaced with remarkable frequency from the clinton camp. Her remarks to USA Today (and its especially clear in the audio) were an act of shear desperation. Are the Clintons racist? No I don't think so, but they are amoral and will do whatever it takes for their own personal advancement. She crossed a line. She crossed a line, and I doubt she feels any any regret or discomfort. For the Clintons, its all about the Clintons. No regrets or justifications are needed. Making remarks like that, she may one of these days look out at the crowd and see a very disturbing element showing up.

The crowd Hillary Clinton is desperate to appeal to now will in large part vote for John McCain no matter who the Democrats nominate. Barak Obama is forging a whole new voting base that could serve the Democrats very well in the future. People aren't just sick and tired of George Bush. they're fed up with the toxic political system we've had for years. Obama represents a move away from that. Clinton and McCain pull us deeper into the quick sand. When Barack Obama goes toe to toe with John McCain the difference will be staggering. I think its telling that even Republican law makers flocked around him yesterday when he went to DC.

Its far past the point where Clinton can remove herself with any dignity. This remark, her "letter" to Obama...she missed her chance to leave with grace. She's lost any leverage she might have had. Once this is finally over, the Party will treat her kindly, but she's finished.

  • AKA Smith

If you can claim Obama supporters are a nasty lot I can respond by pointing out cases where Hillary supporters have been just as bad if not worse.

You might not have any power over what other posters of your political alignment say or do, but you cannot claim moral superiority to your side when it has engaged in pretty much the same thing.

For every bad thing you have to say about Obama and his supporters I can respond with bad things about Hillary and her supporters.

Now Hillary can repair the damage fairly easily: Simply come out and clarify her statement. A "I appologise for how I said that, I did not mean to imply that black and educated voters aren't hard working Americans" and while her hopes in this election may be done, the degree of hard feelings over it would fade to some extent.

Heck an appology, if heartfelt and eloquent enough may even help her more than the statement hurt her - she might actually start winning over a little bit of the black vote that feels she has no interest in them.
