  • Silly article.

Here goes the liberal democratic hate machine again.

Iran, Israel, and nuclear weapons in the Middle East are serious, complicated issues. Conason's silly simplification to gratify liberal readers only degrades the discussion that must take place.

Real Political Leaders will understand the Middle East's regional history, regional politics, and will listen to what regional leaders are saying... Including threats.

Hey Joe, have you ever thought about that?

  • @ rtf100 and Blank

Reason, logic and common sense all dictate that there is no chance of us attempting to mix things up with Iran. In that you are both correct.

The problem is that I genuinely fear (and not just from reading the placard clutching hysterics of left wing media) that the "Neo-conservative" movement in American politics cares not for these things.

When you look at the sheer volume of anti-Iran rhetoric flying around out there, when you compare it to the propaganda used to drive us into Junior's Freudian War of Choice, when you listen to the things coming out of McCain's mouth; you have to wonder WHY they would be saying these things.

I fear that you both have too much faith in the human race.

  • Great Morning Reading Fun!

I just love a liberal who knows how to write so liberal! Such a fine art of mixing facts, with inuendo, with half-truths and a dash of mistruths and walla, you have a typical Salon/liberal article!! I love the smile articles such as Joe's brings to my face when reading. Like reading a book with typical foreshadowing clues. You know instantly where the author is going. Joe, you really dont have to be so coy...just tell us you hate the Iraq war. You dont have to lie (ie. The Bush Adminstration tried to tell us the Saddam did 9/11). All of the OVERUSED and tired montra of where's the WMD was actually refreshing to hear again.

Why not try to be creative and understand that Iran is truly in a box now with troops surrounding this country. Maybe make a leap of logic and say hey, maybe the past two wars were really more about surrounding the real problem (Iran) than all the bull both the right and left sides of the ailse have been selling us for five years? You know that there is no way we are going to send boots on the ground inside of Iran. However, Iran also knows its expansinist desires are over too and now aware that there will be many craters throughout the country should they launch a nuke at Israel or some other country in range.

And to again to make statements that there is no Al Qaida in Iran, just like you guys said in Iraq is predictable. Hey, maybe Al Qaida will use the same travel agency they did in Iraq. I mean hey, there were no Al Qaida in Iraq in 2002 and by 2003 they were in every part of Iraq. I mean that was one busy travel agent!!!! Maybe they should seize that guys laptop and this whole thing would be over!

  • mccain and iran

McCain is hanging around with Lieberman and the other Likudnik Zionists; that sends shivers down my spine.

  • EMStoveken

I don't know. You could ask the Iranians why they churn out so much insane agitprop as well. I guess it's a sop to their own middle class of blogerati fools. It's no different than all of the Cold War era cannibal king tinpot Marxist dictators screaming about People's Revolutionary This or Running Dog Lackey That.

  • -- blank-

Yep, much better to wait until the war starts to discuss it. That's the way some Americans prefer it: with hindsight rather than foresight, because less thinking is involved.

  • The Real Danger...

is McCain and Joe Lieberman in the same room together! There's a recipe for a disaster if ever I saw one.

  • I'll do you one better

Just prattle on about the inevitable war with the Martians. I'm sure that will happen eventually.

  • BTW I like the new picture

In case it wasn't red meat enough for the loons like Gordon Wagner and aVulcan.

  • The Man With Two Brains

Bush's Brain is McCain's Brains. Karl Rove me wrong time. Admit it, you rock!!! ..............Next stop Iran.

  • @readers (re historybuff1)

Just wondering - can anyone discern even an iota of substance in that posting? Is he saying that Iran is in cahoots with al-Qaeda? Is he saying John McCain is speaking the truth? Is he saying anything at all?

Oh right. There are "serious, complicated issues" in the Middle East. "Real Leaders" will have an "understanding" of the "region".

Brilliant. I guess one must rise to the level of "buff" to get that. Well, color me enlightened.

    Thanks for the insight, Buffy.

  • Saudis are the one's who fund al-Qaida

    Facts:

    1) Three-quarters (or more) of the 9-11 terrorists were Saudis.

    2) Saudis (royal family, ie government?) were a (the main?) source of funding for the 9-11 attack.

    3) Saudis are the main source of funds for Sunni/al-qaida fighters in Iraq.

So why aren't Bush-McCain going after Saudi Arabia? Seems to make a lot more sense than Iran -- at least according to their way of "thinking".

Bush-McCain do not care about justice or right and wrong, but are only concerned about making up excuses, any excuse, -even blatantly false ones - to go after Iran. The "Big Lie" tactic, once again.

  • What about the other two war mongers?

I wonder why Obama and Clinton are going to get a free pass on their plans for Iran?

If there are three war candidates and a "journalist" only reports that one of them is a war candidate then that "journalist" is just a pitch man for the warbuckers.

Enlist, if you like war so damn much.

  • John Wayne McCain

    jeez folks,

you think that someone who spent alot of time as a POW would be thinking in a more non-conflict mode. I spent one year in Nam and when I came home the last thing I wanted to do was carry a hard on for the vietnamese. I appreciate John McCains service to our country during that war-game but seriously folks this guy has got an agenda, the guy spent a long time in the Hanoi Hilton and folks he "ain't forgetting" he wants revenge and he does not care whose ass he has to kick to get his pound of flesh. The shoe that fits is "Psycho"....be real concerned about this guy, remember a while back when all us Nam Vets were labled "Baby Killers" ...you really sure we want somebody who probably does not sleep too well at night and has flashbacks. I had two uncle's who were WW2 vets and they were captured and POWS, one was in the Battaan death march and the other was in a german POW camp. I loved both these guys but they had some very serious ghost's....BEWARE, BEWARE!

    AMERICA BE WARNED...!

ps..this guy will have his finger on the button.
