"One Clinton aide yesterday derided Mr Obama’s victories in “boutique” caucus states rather than the hardscrabble terrain of the rustbelt, saying: “Obama has won the small caucus states with the latte-sipping crowd. They don’t need a president, they need a feeling.”

Incredible. This is absolutely infuriating. How dare they denigrate and insult an entire swath of DEMOCRATIC voters - and how the hell are they not called on this bullshit? For the life of me I don't understand how this isn't *at least* as reprehensible as the monster statement.

I wonder why Hillary continues to beat the drum about how hard it is for her as a woman? Perhaps because the drum beat brings out her most virulent "it's time for a woman to lead" supporters.

The thing about Hillary's hostile press coverage is that it's the press pack's negative perception of her (or pundits' putative mind reading of her) that gets reported. When you look for the actual terrible things she's done, you generally don't find the crux of any particular offense.

People actually got worked-up because her refutation of the notion that Obama was a Muslim was "insufficiently strong." I saw the interview. She was unequivocal, yet some complained about her "pauses" and "inflection." Others thought the "Three AM" ad was the most viciously unfair political attack they'd ever seen. That was a kiss on the cheek compared to what the Republicans will be serving up for November.

I really think the worst thing that you can say about Hillary is that she's an old-style pol when compared to the transformational 21st-century politics of Obama.

  • Re: Obama should focus on answering any serious questions raised about his own.

I could not agree more with Joe Conason on this fact. The attacks from the Clinton Camp and the lacklustre responses and handling of these issues by the Obama camp continues to worry psychedelic and conscientious black people like me, who would like to see a mixed race man like Obama, unite America and help put a stop to the not often spoken but generally held idea that of the blackman is of an inferior race.

I am not convinced that the Obama camp is doing enough, other than pointing accusing fingers back to his rival, to debunk the accusations. The fumbling and tactlessness of Obama advisors like Goolsbie and Power further lend credence to some of these allegations. Call it Clinton spin or media sensation, the onus of providing circumstantial evidence and convincing arguments to the contrary falls on the Obama camp.

Just as Joe Conanson posits, its is better done now than later. The Obama campaign should brace up for more ingenious and tactful responses to negative attacks and political innuendoes. This is politics! The Obama camp is lucky enough to enjoy the sympathy of the American press, it should appropriate it optimally, not just for the sake of winning the democratic nomination but the general election.

  • Clinton ethics

The Clintons--both of them--come as close as two people logically can to having been proven innocent. Conason correctly reviews the record.

The sad fact is, however, that the after effects of decades of unsubstantiated accusations linger on. The ill informed and intellectual lazy--and that includes a large percentage of the American voting public--will always suspect that there must be something there.

I doubt Hillary will ever become president--though I think she might be a good one--because of the poison cloud around her.

  • Only the Big States Count

For now, no dialect, and only a passing reference to Madam KoTexaco. A grad student in journalism, eh? That explains the fact that she knows everything, and the rest of us are peasants. There's a slot opening up for ya at Fuxxsnooze, KoTexaco, so you go, girl. Make sure you write you hair products off on your taxes. Now, regarding the Klinton Kligon Kamp's assertion that Obama's states don't matter 'cause they're small, or in the middle of the country, or have too many Afros to be valid representations of Democrats sentiments. Horse hockey. Howard Dean, no dummy he, made the fifty state strategy an axiom for the DNC approach to future elections. You can see how the "red" middle states get a little chafed when the coasts assume that the center of the country is there to be flown over on one's way from NYC to LA, perhaps for a Weather Girl interview after on gets one's masters in journalism. What Obama has done, among other things, is to take the DNC rules seriously, to organize in and contest for every state, and to out maneuver Ms. "Experience" at every turn. This apparently makes the "feminist" brigade, the Midol Millions, stomp their little feet and have a hissy fit. The reality is that Obama holds a significant lead where it counts: delegates, and no plausible turn of events will change that before the convention. The only way Billary can wrest the nomination, the turgid, throbbing engorged prize she was promised, is to have a Coup de Top, convincing the super delegates to ignore the weight of the voters and coronate a sure loser. Could happen. We have a way of losing elections we cannot lose. Hillary's the best friend McLame has right now (next to lobbyists), and every shrewlike outburst, every snarky commercial, makes Honest John's job that much easier. So, take a chill pill, slap on a hormone patch, and take a look at what's really happening. Since Hill's Big Tuesday, she has actually LOST ground in pledged delegates, and that's before Texas finishes counting their caucuses (guess they had to take their boots off to count that high). love heywood

  • Ah, the hit piece!

One would think Joe Conason above this sort of thing. It's the sort of low-life scuzzball tactic we've come to expect out of Walter Shapiro and Joan Walsh. Conason in the past at least pretended to non-partisan behaviors. But a paycheck is a paycheck, after all.

    Joe, we hardly knew ye...

Fo' KateTex, Barack Obama will be empty suit no matter he graduate of 'aaravard, did mo' world travelin' than Hillary Clinton, all the stuff you say and mo'. He win more delegates than Hillary Clinton, he still a suit. 'cause we unejucated fools are followin' him everywhere he go, and ejucated fools followin' Clinton, but dere are more them unejucated than ejucated so he be winnin' but still a fool in a suit. And now the great state of Texas go give up more delegates to Barack Obama and KateTex is mad as hell and won't take it anymore. She be movin' to Ohio pretty soon to git away from them colored folk and not so colored folk like them Hispanics, whose young 'uns voted for Barack Obama. What is the country movin' to?
