  • Hmm...Pantanal...

While I understand where you're coming from, you should probably check the stats on the Ottoman Empire. Christianity sure is elbow-deep in the gore, but I would be hard pressed if I had to pick between it and Islam by pure body count.

  • Thomas Theobald

The last thing I would ever do is defend any religious murderous imperialism and indeed Islam is historically right behind Christianity in the body count. Even when you include the Ottoman empire, between the crusades, the Inquisition and the bloody genocide the Conquistadors had committed in the Americas, it seems like Islam has some distance to cover. My point is that it's the height of hypocrisy for a fundamental Christian like Bush or any of his supporters to whine about Islamic terrorism when he's himself a terrorist whose religion has a very long history of terrorism, genocide and general mayhem.

  • More on American Christianity

It's astonishing to see the difference between various denominations of Christianity world wide and American Christianity. While outside of the US Christianity is pretty peaceful and mostly occupied with fighting poverty, in the US, fundamental Protestantism and some right wing Catholics are rapidly moving toward a medieval mentality. Thy are becoming more and more militant, militaristic, imperialistic and empire seeking, angry at the world and seem to look for confrontations everywhere. The Republican candidates, even those who aren't religious fundamentalists, with the exception of Ron Paul, just seem to want to take the world on. It seems like the next war couldn't come soon enough for them. They actually seem to want to alienate the entire world.

  • REPUBLICAN VICTORY IN 2008

IF YOU THINK THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IS A MODERATE ISLAMIC GROUP YOU HAVEN'T NEEN NOTICING OR PERHAPS YOU ARE IGNORING THE PERSECUTION OF COPTIC CHRISTIANITY IN EGYPT. THERE IS MORE NEWS OUT THERE THAN WHAT YOU MAKE UP.

  • It's all Relative

It's pretty bad when Bush looks like the elder statesman in foreign policy compared to the current crop of Republican candidates. Let's hope the American people won't get fooled again.

  • The republican insane asylum

It seems like the common denominators for all the Republican candidates, with one exception, are: paranoid insanity, neurotic aggression, an almost erotic desire to send other people's children to die in wars they can't wait to start, and an unrelenting wish to make the US the most hated country in the history of the world.

  • Political Correctness Abounds

"During four Democratic debates," he complained, "not a single Democratic candidate said the word [sic] 'Islamic terrorism.' Now, that is taking political correctness to extremes."

During the all the Republican and Democratic debates, not a single candidate has said the phrase 'Christian imperlialism'. Is that because it isn't reasonable to inflame anti-Christian sentiment by so labeling George Bush's foreign policy? Or is it because the majority of the world's 2.1 billion Christians should not have suffer guilt by association with Mr. Bush and his Christian fundamentalist political base just because Bush and his supporters are nominally 'Christian' and and he's an imperlialist?

  • Islamic brotherhood in Egypt

Not to be an apologist for the IB, but it used to be a relatively moderate Islamic party, as Islamic parties go in that part of the world. Under Mubarak, members of that organization suffered some horrendous torture at the hands of Mubarak's secret police while imprisoned. Various human rights outfits have reported forced sex with dogs, eye gouging, sodomy, genital electrocutions, finger chopping and other such lovely stuff. This treatment had been the major driving force behind the radicalization of IB. It's no wonder that the Bush regime is very fond of sending some of those it labels as "terrorist suspects" to Egypt. The Bush and Mubarak regimes are kindered spirits.

  • Muslim brotherhood

The correct name is Muslim Brotherhood, not Islamic brotherhood, so they would be MB and not IB, sorry.

  • Watchdogs, or Dogs Of War

    Yikes!!

"If Mr. Conason bothered to read anything translated from Arabic by MEMRI and other watchdog groups or bothered to read any books by people like Ayaan Hirsi Ali or Nonie Darwish or Daniel Pipes or anyone else schooled in Islamic thought, he would know that a war HAS BEEN DECLARED ON US by large segments of the Muslim world, not just the so-called radicals or Jihadists. The articles are on the web for all to see! The people who are inflaming the war of civilizations are the people who have declared that THERE IS a war of civilizations. These folks don't shy away from declaring that they will kill all the Jews and take down America. The GOP candidates are simply articulating the truth, not fomenting it."-- jpincus

    Ahh, yes, the "watchdogs" -- a fair & balanced group . . .

MEMRI -- prominent member & founder --Yigal Carmon — MEMRI's President. He served in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Intelligence Branch from 1968 to 1988, was Acting Head of Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria and the adviser on Arab Affairs to the Civil Administration from From 1977 to 1982, and advised Prime Ministers Shamir and Rabin on Countering Terrorism from 1988 to 1993.

Aayan Hirsi Ali -- She is currently a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank.

Nonie Darwish -- "Palestinian native Kamal Nawash founder of Free Muslim Coalition Against Terrorism praises Darwish's work but believes her decision to leave Islam dilutes her message. "She left the religion and now she's trying to reform it," Nawash said. "We support her as much as possible, but the only people she can really speak to are the choir."

Daniel Pipes -- "Pipes supporters, who represent both the core of the Republican base and the core of the pro-Israel lobby, are itching for such a fight. He has been endorsed by groups such as the Christian Coalition, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the American Jewish Congress, and the Zionist Organization of America. "The kinds of issues that Daniel has been talking about are the kinds of issues we could stand a debate about in the public at large," says Frank J. Gaffney Jr., the president of the Center For Security Policy, a conservative think tank "

  • Ron Paul

Bring the troops home ASAP. Stop the Orwellian REAL ID. Vote for Ron Paul. Unless you're afraid of liberty.
