Letters to the Editor

Letters posted here are associated with the following article:
With his poll numbers sinking, Giuliani is blaming Bill Clinton for doing nothing about Islamic terrorists. But what did the former mayor do?
The letters thread is now closed.
  • So that I can sound cool and sophisticated and no one can beat me to it,

I would like to point out the clever reference to a song by The Clash in this article's headline. However, I didn't have the energy to actually read the article. I'll wait for the Cliff's Notes.

  • I'm neither cool nor sophisticated

But I would like to point out that Giuliani is a douche-bag.

  • What a God Damned Liar!

Huh ??? Bill Clinton didn't respond? Is he serious? Has he lost his mind? How stupid does he think we are?

Not only were the terrorist who blasted the Cole, tried and imprisoned, but Clinton's administration had an outlined plan to address the threat of Bin Laden. The country is completely aware that it was Bush who dismissed the threat. It was Bush who went golfing the day of the now infamous memo re: Bin Laden determined to strike in the U.S. It was Bush who disappeared in AirForce One while the rest of us dealt with the horror of that day.

How in the world could Giuliani blatantly lie to the American public like that? Wow... He is really showing his true colors, "Say anything to scare the stupid Americans to vote for me.." I guess I can't blame him. This mantra seems to be the motto of todays republican party. It's just that I used to think he was better than that. Turns out that he's just as insane as McCain.

  • Telling it like it is

Thanks, Joe. Cogent as always. It's nice to read someone laying it out there plainly. The Republicans really have so little of substance to stand on, but Democrats continue to flail and fail in the rhetoric wars. Any chance of your writing a few talking points for the Dems?

  • how low can they go?

Giuliani's candidacy simply demonstrates just how low the GOP has sunk. Wait 'till Thompson gets going. I wager he'll be even worse.

Although, my own take is that Giuliani will likely self-destruct before the conventions, and Thompson will prove to be every bit as lazy as a candidate, as he was as a Senator, and his candidacy will wither. Leaving...Mitt Romney? That's gonna be fun. I think Hillary can beat Romney. So can Obama and Edwards.

Frankly, aside from anything else, how does anyone vote for a guy with a lisp who looks like Christopher Lee's vampire uncle back from the dead? I swear, every time I face the reality of Giuliani running for President, I get a case of the giggles. Surely this *can't* be happening, can it?

Have Presidential primary run-ups always seemed this deranged? Or is this one especially kooky?

Then I remember that we'll soon have had eight years of GW Bush...a man who shouldn't have been elected dog-catcher in a sane world, and I realize, with real despair, that any damned thing is possible now.

  • "Better" than "nothing"

Honestly, I would rather have a leader that did "nothing" than the current crop of messianic politicians that have disastrously led this country's foreign policy. Lets rewind to the Clinton era and see the Middle East then:

Iran: not much of a threat.

    Iraq: Safely contained, and declawed.

Palestine: Effectively engaged in diplomacy (which later broke down, unfortunately)

    And now:

    Iran: A major threat.

Iraq: The new breeding ground for terrorism.

Palestine: Previously engaged in bloody conflict with Israel (yet again), and now torn by a foolish foreign policy that encouraged democratic elections and then refused to accept the results (because they elected the "wrong leaders").

Yes, the Bush administration has done plenty. It has shredded this country's international standing, it has bolstered terrorism under the pretenses of putting it down, and it has destabilized the Middle East.

    I'll take "nothing", thank you.

  • if only

"His presidential candidacy will implode on the day that Americans finally grasp the full truth about his performance as mayor."

    if only...

until then Adolph Guiliani will run and run with no electoral tactic too slimy or ludicrous and no position to placate his right wing audiences too triangulated.

  • The old shell game

Pat Robertson University is an oxymoron. Guliani is just a moron.

  • Thank you!

I'm so tired of telling my republican friends that they are full of crap when they assert that Clinton did nothing. Clinton simply didn't blast his moves on every public forum to scare us. Now, instead of fumbling for my footnotes (cause you know specific references have to be on hand to back up every fact you present to a republican), I can just send this article. Thank you!

  • The Past As Prologue

While I agree with the letter writer's points made above, I must offer this bit of caution: simply knowing that George W. Bush was/is an idiot wasn't enough to stop millions of our fellow citizens from voting for him in 2000 and, worse, in 2004.

From the "SwiftBoat" tactics of the loony right to the shrill bleatings of the talk show cabalists Colter, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, et al, the Repooplican's and their ilk will say anything, do anything and smear anyone whom they perceive to be a threat to their power. It matters not if the data they spew is false, the info misleading or the positions egregious, they want to win and win at any and all costs. Ethics, morality and honor be damned, Rudy; full speed ahead!

It would certainly be refreshing to see if the mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging set, who practically worship anything the Repooplicans offer, will...SOMEhow...rise to the occasion and reject their brand of character assassination.

However, don't count on either the Repooplicans suddenly finding honor or their minions suddenly finding a brain.

  • =

    Giuliani = Mussolini

  • No, Giuliani is Correct

I heard the 1990s U.S. Attorney for the SDNY (Manhattan), Mary Jo White, say in a public forum that the Clinton White House ignored her plea to treat the WTC 1993 bombing as part of a war, not merelyh a criminal justice matter. Apologies to all for clogging up this site with facts.

  • Your anger is misdirected

You should be mad at the 49% of Retardo-Americans who believe this nonsense or in the least, vote for the people who claim that it's true. Rudy believes in nothing. He's reading from a script. Someone told him his repetition of his 9/11 battle cry was getting stale after the 3 millionth iteration.

And Thank the fat baby Jayzus that in America if you chant "Clinton" at least one third of the electorate will immediately claim they heard he smokes Meth with the Devil.

What the Dems have to do is simply play that game. Scream wall to wall reminding everyone who was the President on 911. Let's practice.....it was "BUUUUUUUSSSSSSHHHHH". See - now repeat that 5 million times.

You can't fight stupidity and you can't overcome it. All you can do is gently push the idiots in one direction or another, making them think it was their brilliant idea all along.
