  • I'm sorry mellowtone

But what IS the difference between a hood gansta and Condi Rice? Maybe that she's committed crimes that are harder to prosecute. Both have a total disregard for communities of the poor and brown. Both have a naked drive to achieve status and wealth no matter whom they hurt. Both define success as wealth and seem to care about little else.

I was born in Bed-stuy Brooklyn (the cliche is Bed-stuy , do or die. Rappers Jay-Z and the late Biggie Smalls are from there) and I grew up supported by welfare. I went to college and then grad school at Harvard. So I know how difficult climbing from the lower class to the middle and/or upper classes can be.

And honestly the difference between Condi and those "self-destructive black youth whose hip-hop idols celebrate marginality, criminality and failure." is that Condi had more education and more choices and should know better.

    But is she ??

Ok, maybe it's because Salon got rid of The Fix, but part of me wants to read this book to learn if Mabry has anything to say about Condi's sexuality. Rumors have swirled around her just as they did around Janet Reno 10 years ago.

It would be SO telling if an African-American lesbian was a Republican. I don't think it's possible to get more self-hating than that.

    *******

For what it's worth, I know someone who knew someone who had a little slap-and-tickle with Condi, and it was of the hetero variety. On that, and a little other evidence gleaned from here and there, Rice is straight...but who knows? Who cares? It's her integrity, or lack of it, that bothers me.

  • it's difficult to know what to believe, VM111111

but as for me i believe you are white - and faking being black. it's obvious what i am - and if you didn't know, i have a *tome* of material to go through. but you've written *one* letter. a special free email just for that handle? that's the inference. the rest is *style* "bed-stuy, do or die"? that sound black to you? no rhythm. no knock. then the view that the *worst* thing rice did was to support the "bush regime" with no empathy for her at all. *that* sound black to you? hey! there's no *unity* nor should there be, but a Gordon Wagner view coming from a brother? nah. just don't believe it. but the subject says it best "i'm sorry mellowtone". preparation for *snide*. that's something *my* people (yea! the jews!) would do, not black people. they are a whole lot straighter. Go ahead, VM111111 (what you get that from? your computer terminal?) talk BLACK, and then we'll ask mellowtone and copelli21 to judge. (i think, by the way, it's DESPICABLE (and not just "daffy"))

  • Oh well that's all right then

Condy says: "War is war. We made a lot of mistakes, I'm sure of it. But there are a lot of mistakes we didn't make, too."

Good grief, is it really too much to expect someone to take even a smidgeon of responsiblity anymore? Perhaps we should all use that defense for any and every bad thing we do. Yes, I'm sorry I killed them but remember, there are a lot of people out there I didn't kill. I'm sorry I robbed the bank but remember, there's a lot of money out there I didn't touch. I'm sorry I slept with your husband but at least I didn't fuck your brother/cheat on my taxes/run a red light.

    Aaaargghhhhh.

  • Two things about Rice...

First, even under torture, I would probably not be able to reproduce anything she said about anything. Maybe it's the bland voice, maybe it's the desire to "get along" that the article mentioned, but at least to me, she's never said anything memorable.

Second, I do recall the cartoons showing her. If the way she's been illustrated had been done about any publicly known black woman, or even a minor celebrity, they'd be called racist caricatures. Huge teeth, always scowling, awful looking if not deliberately frightening. But I don't recall anyone complaining. Maybe as she's sought to disassociate herself from the black community, she's no longer considered black and therefore ineligable for the protection of political correctness.

  • Fat chance

I don't think we need to be concerned about the political future of Condoleeza Rice. She is a key member of a criminal gang that illegally and with malice aforethought seized control of the Federal Government. As long as this criminal gang fails in its attempt to bomb and invade Iran, justice may yet be served.

The real test here is of us, the citizens of the United States of America, in our ability to recognize and properly respond to the presence of a criminal organization at the top of our governmental structure. Bush, Cheney, Rice, and the all-too-numerous other sociopaths that operate the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of our Federal government really don't amount to much as human beings, and will fade from the scene shortly. What does matter is the future of the planet, of life on the planet, and if our system can survive such criminality.

I actually think of Bush as a blessing in disguise. What if he were brilliant, an evil mastermind who schemed successfully to hold the entire world at bay, to institute a crony capitalist police state that would be beyond our present imagination?

We are lucky he is an inarticulate, bumbling incompetent. His perfidy has ruined it for the power elite that backed his reign of stupidity. We may actually get a real democracy thanks to him. All hail George W. Bush, idiot king! Pose again for another photo op! Ride a motorcycle! A hot air baloon! Go bungee jumping! Dress up as an astronaut! Wear a Patton outfit! A football uniform! Biker! Indian chief! Cowboy! Construction worker! Policeman! Make a disco album!

It has been surreal, but if we are lucky, we will have learned a great lesson from having had this regime in power. If we want to survive as a country and as a species, we can never let this happen again. Never!
