Is SWIFT Bank the 'SWIFT Boot' to Democracy that brought on this "WAR TO END ALL PEACE"
That someone would say these things? That it resonates with enough people that there's money to be made in it? Or that "Stop being such meanies!" or "That's not nice!" or "I'm calling the FCC!" is the best reponse that Liberals can muster?
Whatever happened to the Two-Fisted Liberal who'd just as soon knock that hat off your head than tolerate such fascists.
(Tomorrow's headlines will now read, "Liberal Letter Writer Hates Fascists, Advocates Hat-Smacking" and "Mainstream Media Decries Call For Hat-Smacking: 'Violent fascists are people too,' say nation's editors.")
I especially enjoyed his role in Hotel Rwanda as the voice on the radio telling the Hutus to "Cut down the tall trees!" and "eliminate the cockroaches!"
It is a significant first step to shop based on one's values (check out http://www.buyblue.org for help with this and if you're in the Denver area this page too: http://am760.net/pages/bluelist.html). Giving your hard-earned money to companies who either turn around and give it to Republicans or who use it to pay for advertising on hate-mongering shows on stations like KSFO is exactly like giving it DIRECTLY TO THE RNC. I hear the protests already - as an example, "but Walmart's cheaper" - and here is the reality - what you don't pay in the store, you pay in taxes both local, state and federal to cover Walmart's responsibilities. TANSTAAFL (there-ain't-no-such-thing-as-a-free-lunch for those of us who have not read Robert H. Heinlein) is ALWAYS true.
It's a good second step to pass this info to like-minded friends. Pass on the links above when you do so. Share your information.
However there's another important step: call or write the advertiser whose products you will no longer purchase and TELL THEM what you are doing. Make sure you tell a manager - and make sure they understand what you find offensive. Offering a compliment about their facility or product before you do so makes the impact of your withdrawal of support more powerful. Be polite, be clear, be concise. It's better to write a letter or make a phone call rather than email, but email is better than nothing.
Media is all about money. The sooner we get tough about who gets our money the sooner we can reduce the lies and the hate that right wing media like Melanie Morgan and Bill O'Reilly and Mike Savage spew. This a direct correlation.
Can you imagine the changes we could make if we all fully lived our values? Indeed "the personal is political." Righties know this, we need to get clear about this too. Simply bitching to the government will have nowhere near the impact and will just cause the right-wing to whine about "big government interference."
And for Ther Colonel - for 2 years I did listen to Michael Savage - the only radio I could pick up on a long, late night, 3-day-a-week drive with no working tape player. I would get home so stunned and sickened by his hateful spew that I'd spend another hour just trying to calm down enough to sleep. That you don't find his talk hateful says volumes about your values.
Melanie Morgan and her cronies are not just moronic, but I'd make a case for psychotic as well. Inciting violence on a person or persons because of things they have said or printed is in direct confliction with the First Ammendment. The beauty about the freedom of speech and freedom of the press it that it encourages discourse and debate. Unfortunately, Morgan and her cohorts seem to only believe in the First Ammendment for people who are spouting their own brand of propaganda. Everyone has their opinions and just because you disagree isn't cause for name-calling and death plots. This kind of intolerance is what breeds the fighting and violence that is sweeping through society. Instead of calling for the electrocution of the New York Times editor, I think their argument would hold more weight if they actually discussed the issue and gave their reasoned sid of the argument. They should be ashamed of themselves, especially for relishing in the delight that horribly bad things should happen to "stupid liberals" and that Morgan and her cohorts would be pleased. I strongly believe in karmic justice, Morgan and company should watch their backs.
Electrocution, hanging, gassing ... big deal. If these people had any imagination, they would be asking for drawing and quartering, garotting, being burned at the stake.
I say, "No guts, no glory!"
We can either run to the government (the FCC in this case) and ask them to "Make it stop!" or we can, to quote our ally Steve Earle, "F the CC" as per usual, continue to support all speech as free, and take these swine on head-on for a change. They will fall under their own weight. People ask "Isn't this how it started in Germany?" Well, the simple answer is yes. That was Germany. We are Americans. "Isn't this similar to Islamist rhetoric?" Yes - but we are not a Muslim nation - not a religious state - and again, we are Americans. We are not obligated to change our First Amendment article of faith the moment the wrong people start abusing it. It's been done by the left as well over the years and we've supported those abusers merrily. Now it's time for us to put all our cards on the table and take these sows and swine to the intellectual abattoir located at the base of the altar of Truth and kick their asses the way Americans were designed to: by exposing them for the pigs they are. No one wants to look stupid, but until we expose the stupidity, the hatefulness and the manifest and willful ignorance of these people by countering it with facts - even facts the FCC doesn't want aired, so fuck them too - this Big Lie and Hate fest will just go on supporting the dwindling number of human embarrassments this country harbors as the price we all pay for being relatively free.
It isn't hard: just act as Americans instead of wingnuts of either extreme. Just stand, for god's sake and tell it like it is. We haven't had the balls to do this in decades, so fearful we've become of offending some little nutball faction of our own. We can talk too, and we can talk better. We just need to get over the dreaded plague of political correctness favoring our own morally handicapped and say and do what is best for the greatest number of people. We could start by gutting (intellectually and philosophically only, of course) the moronic talking heads of the far, far Wrong, and for the love of god, let's not send someone like Al Franken to do it.
