Electrocute Bill Keller! No, hang him! The moronic hosts of GOP-connected radio station KSFO get big yuks calling for "traitors" in the press to be killed -- all brought to you by Disney.

  • Just one question...

    Is anyone surprised by this?

OK, two questions; isn't this how it started in Germany in the 30's?

  • The Coarsening of Debate

Imagine the neo-con frothing if Al Franken were to call for the scalp of Rupert Murdoch. The Republicans are who have made uglier and nastier the public discourse in this country. The tactics of these people are obscene.

  • Another Two Questions

Why is the press not all over these calls for violence?

Why is it that there have not been any lawsuits filed against these psychopaths for inciting violence?

  • Stop Consuming

Joe is right. And the only way to get through to Big Media is to hit 'em where it counts: the budget. Find out who is advertising on these programs, shop elsewhere. Inform like-minded individuals about the rhetoric they might inadvertantly be supporting when making purchases. Few advertisers would risk alienate 10% of potential customers to support childish, hateful rhetoric. Truly, if businesses felt they could jeopardize the Democratic 50% by patronizing hate-radio, these shows would be broke.

If you are sick of the daily hatred being generated towards you, your family, and your principles, then you know what to do: find out who's behind it all and stop consuming. It's really that simple.

  • Why drag Savage into this?

I have listened to, met, and been enlightened by Michael Savage for over ten years. One thing he is not is a hatemonger. I have seen him pinned with this label for years and I can almost guarantee the people who label him have not listened to him regulary and have only listened to "out of context" quotes the homosexual mafia or the ilks of you(JOE) want us to hear.

Tune in and find out for yourself.

  • What needs to happen

is when the Democrats win this fall (God willing), they appoint someone who asserts the power of the FCC. These people broadcast on FM/AM radio frequencies (as well as broadcast television channels), which can be regulated for the public good. Advocating the killing or death of groups of citizens is not in the public good. The FCC should fine radio stations or broadcast TV stations that air these death threats. It is not a violation of the freedom of speech, either. Advocating murder is not a political viewpoint, and anybody who did, whether liberal or conservative, would be subject to the regulations. Even make an exception for discussing those convicted of felony crimes, so that we could have a rational discussion about the death penalty. For God sakes, if stations are fined for showing a split second of Janet Jackson's breast, yet still show women in bikinis, without offending the First Amendment, then it is certainly within the FCC's powers to draw a similar line between political discourse and hate speech. The FCC is controlled by Congress, so it could be possible. Now if only the Democrats had guts...

  • the inspiring mr. savage

I live in Chicago, where it would seem Michael Savage has a tiny, furious niche market. I listened to him for a couple of days in the car, until finally, after nearly thirty minutes of sputtering about "them Muslims" (pronounced MOO-slims), the most he could articulate was "Mr. Muhammed..what is WITH these moo-slims? Why can't they get some original names, huh?"

Ah, scathing social commentary. From a guy named Michael, no less. Oy.

  • Re: Ther Colonel on Michael Savage

Media Matters has a list of outrageous, hateful comments by Michael Savage:

There's no question about it. Savage is a hatemonger.

  • Excellent story! I simply told the advertisers what the hosts were saying

    Thank you Joe.

I really appreciate the story, especially today when someone from KSFO ABC/Disney created a web page to out me. Maybe his bosses at KSFO suggested it since it clearly was done on company time and posted from an ABC Disney company IP address. But it doesn't surprise me since I and one of my readers have cost them money from advertisers who have pulled their ads. ABC Radio/Disney refuses to do anything about KSFO radio hosts who incite violence and spew indecent speech. Because it makes them money. Except when it doesn't and then they subsidize it with revenue from other shows.

As Glenn Greenwald has said about extremist speech, we can't just ignore it anymore so instead, I've been monitoring this station and these hosts. I've primarily focused on Brian Sussman, former KPIX weather man, after I engaged him in an email conversation about his support of torture. http://s88172659.onlinehome.us/2005/06/brian-sussman-why-dont-you-want-to.html. Listen to him talk about cutting off the finger and then the genitalia of an Iraqi. This took place at 6 pm and he was not reprimanded or fired.

http://s88172659.onlinehome.us/cutofffinger12152005H18M13.wma Or listen to him demand that a caller, "Say Allah is a whore." http://s88172659.onlinehome.us/2005/10/brian-sussman-to-caller-say-allah-is.html And this man calls himself a "theocon."

I've been contacting KSFO advertisers to alert them to what these hosts have been saying. I chose this method because I believed that corporations really don't like to be associated with hate speech, and the only thing I thought that would get the station's attention was if they took a financial hit.

It finally got their attention after they lost Mastercard. The station manager (through his sales manager) wrote me to ask for a meeting. And a possible "debate" with Sussman. I had no desire to debate Sussman. When I declined, they called me a coward and proceeded to make vague threats of a lawsuit. Now an anonymous person (most likely one of the sales associates) says I'm being investigated by the FBI and the SFPD. "The criminal investigation is on you for fraudulent tortious interference with a business and using the internet to comitt [sic] those crimes. it's illegal"

I blog anonymously for a lot of reasons, one of which is the thuggish tactics demonstrated by people like Morgan and her good friend Michelle Malkin.

Finally, last week I wrote Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal to let them know that Ms. Morgan is calling for their editors to be hanged. The WSJ sponsors Morgan's show. I suggested that the publisher stand up for his journalists and pull their sponsorship. We'll see what happens. Someone has to stand up for the journalists who are doing their job, and if it has to be a blogger, so be it.

Morgan/Rogers and KSFO are simply not worthy of a relationship with an organization with the integrity of the Wall Street Journal. If you agree that the speech of these hosts isn't something that advertisers want to associate with I encourge you all to write the advertisers.
