Editor,
Mr. Conason wrote a wonderful, well thought out and insightful article. I comoletely agree and would hope that Mr. Fitzgerald bring in to his investigation those who fund Lewis Libby's defense because that gives him vectors to follow in his search to find the guilty.
However much I might hope those events take place I don't really hold out much hope for that to occur. I believe we Americans are in the strangle hold of America's worst and most powerful political machine. The machine consisting of Bush, Cheney, Bushies, Bush & Co, Bushism, the Republican Party and the radical religious right evangelical fundamentalists who are squeezing the life and breath out of our American Democracy.
These people are like the nazi party was/is, they think they are the only ones who know whats best for America and they seek to jam their beliefs down the throats of all Americans. These people are a kind of 'new south' with Texas as the capitol and Kansas as the home of the state religion, judicial branch(supreme court) who judge all the rest of us as to how rigorsly we follow the 'new south' religion which now forms our 'new south' constitution and defines our rights as citizens.
A good example is that crazy minister out in Kansas who says God hates America and is punishing our troops by sending them to hell because gay people are allowed to live in America when they should be put to death. How long will it be before Sen. Brownback is alluding to and then finally saying the same thing. How many other people in the 'new south' feel exactly the same way or close to it. Certainly Bush, Bushies, the republican party and the evangelical fundamentalists/ fundamentalist catholics do because that is one of the three planks in the platform Bush got elected on, hate toward gays, hate toward abortionists and fear of terrorists.
Personally, I love our troops very much and worry about them every day just as I did when my brother, cousin and many friends were in Vietnam.
No one seems able to stop these crazies. Now that these crazies have turned America into a one party totalitarian theocracy that has total control over the executive, legislative and soon the judicial branches of government who is there to stop them. These people are not patriotic americans. In fact I can't find anything american about them except that they live here.
The 'new south' people should go somewhere and form their own country where they can hate/kill gays, hate/kill abortionists and hate/fight/kill terrorists.
These people and the crazy jihadists can fight/kill each other and leave the rest of us in America and in the world to take a more reasoned approach to solving these issues and/or problems.
But, again I don't hold out much hope that the strangle hold the 'new south' has on America can be stopped.
is he was mistakenly perceived as a democrat loyalist during the watergate scandal. Let's not forget who talked Nixon into stepping down before he was impeached. It was not the dems. Word has it but of course we don't know, is that Nixon tried to do the right thing in the end with the soviets and with the vietnam war which is why he was ousted on his behind. People have said Kathryn (harris?) who owned the Washington Post at the time, had it out with him over something and some even accuse her using her influence on the hill to bring Nixon down. Watergate was by far the lesser of the crimes this administration faces today only the cooparation with Woodwards seems to have flipped.
Seems to have flipped is the confusing part. He never was on the dems side nor was he in any way loyal to the people. His involvement with watergate was indicative of his involvement with those who were involved in the intelligence community at that time. Aren't there several administration officials now who were involved in the intelligence community then? The intelligence community is bought and sold by this administration - and woodwards still remains loyal to the people and the group he serves just as he always has. He is a neo-con through and through working for the betterment of the superior elites at the expense of the common folk and the working class americans....it never fails to amaze me how numerous these neo-cons are spread out and seated in places of great influence. They are easy as hell to spot though, now.
The ability of a President to pardon members of his administration, or anyone who may have incriminating evidence against him or members of his administration, is a great shortcoming of the Constitution in my opinion. How can a President or members of his administration be held to account/ brought to justice, if the President can pardon them? I can't think of any good reason for President to have this unrestained pardon power.
