Dan Rather Fund
If friends of Scooter Libby can set up a defense fund to pay his legal bills maybe some of us can set up an offense fund for Dan Rather to support the cause for the Truth.

Pantanal is still lying

"A business partner of mine was a Marine Lt. Colonel who served in Vietnam, so I forwarded him the information the so called former Marine Groenhager provided about himself(unsolicited) on this thread. He had contacted a source at USMC headquarters and was told that such a person never served in the USMC."
Right. Maybe you should have him use the correct spelling.
"Not that I was surprised, can you imagine such an asshole surviving 20 minutes of boot camp? A eral Marine would never support ceepy frat boy who supported the Vienam war but used his daddy's influence to get out of fighting but deserted even from the champaign unit he was assigned to."
No? How do you explain the fact that the troops in 2004 backed Bush over Kerry 4-to-1?

A Pulitzer for Sid
This piece again confirms that Sidney Blumenthal is one of the world's greatest journalists, and Salon's only seriously irreplaceable asset.

The real function of Wide Stance Groenhagen
I found out who he really is:Rush Limbaugh's lover. Fatso asked him to be a troll on Salon and Groe does whatever his husband asks him to do.

Awe, Grima
What about Chambliss? Gets out with a bad knee and then slams a person who had multiple amputated in war.
Or how about that hero, Jack Kemp. Jack Kemp, an amazing guy, his knee too damaged to go to war, but oddly enough, not too damaged to continue his professional football career.
Or Limbaugh? Gets out with an awkwardly placed zit.
Or what about Ahnold? Went AWOL from his Austrian army base, so he could show off how shapely his breasts were.
I don't see you talking about any of this guys in your rant on hypocrisy Grima.

Can't spell "taliesan" without "lies"
"Courtesy the war room via of Think Progress"
Consider the source. Do you know who runs Think Progress?
As my post noted, everyone in the GOP leadership supported Clinton's retailiation against al Qaeda in August 1998. They even expressed a desire that that would be just the first punch. Unfortunately, it was the first and last Clinton would deliver. He then went on to launch a preemptive attack on Iraq and an illegal war of choice on Kosovo.

sorry, pantanal
But your story still doesn't wash. Even a former LtCol (the way a real Marine would abbreviate it, by the way), can't just call for that information.
I've gone back and read groenhagen's letters, and all I can vouch for is that he uses Marine terminology and jargon exactly as a Marine would. Take that for what it's worth.
See, I'm an HR person at a company and a former Marine, so I know just what kind of info the military hands out about people (and to whom) and I also recognize Marine jargon when I hear it.
The fact that groenhagen questioned the use of the term E-4 (Marines always say the rank, in this case corporal, and never the pay grade), and he used the abbreviation for Marine Air Wing (MAW) in a way that few outsiders would know.
This, of course, proves nothing absolutely, but based on his letters and yours, I choose to believe him.

Groenhagen
Consider the fact that those were direct quotes.
You are a liar. It. Is. As. Simple. As. That.

Thank God for Dan Rather! IowaYogini from the Class of '69
Thank you, Dan Rather, for your professional integrity!
This administration has bullied, lied and cheated its way through the Executive Branch, ignoring the Constitution time and time again as it suited their purposes. In spite of overwhelming evidence of dishonesty and manipulation of the facts of everything from the reasons for war in Iraq and torture of prisoners to the lies circulated about opposing candidates, NO ONE has been held accountable or brought to justice in this administration except for a few scapegoats. The media has caved-in to their pressure, and finally, because of the Honorable Dan Rather we-the-people of the United States MAY get the truth behind all the lies and deception. If ever there was grounds for impeachment, this is it!
Please, Mr. Rather, for the honest people of the United States, give us the truth and free us all from the logging chain of lies that has crippled our democracy! I stand with you.

To Be Honest, We thought this was a piece of satire
People,
You're backing the wrong horse. Arrogant people tried, through dishonest means, to effect the outcome of a federal election by using obvious forgeries. Arguing like this does nothing but undermine credibility. The reason so many liberal media voices are snickering at Dan Rather? He the establishment's Jayson Blair: bigger ego, less cocaine.

Lying Lynx
"You've made many incorrect statements since you replied to me."
Really? Name one.
Let me give you an example of an incorrect statement. You said Clinton used a legitimate procedure to avoid the draft. How is having a draft induction date, getting out of that date by pormising to join the ROTC, and then reneging on that promise "legitimate"?
Another example. You said Bush went AWOL and was a deserter. In fact, TANG records show that he completed his TANG obligation.

Nice Narrative Mr Blumenthal
The truth about G.W. Bush’s history with the Texas National Guard is excruciatingly obvious now, especially with the “meshing” that Mary Mapes performed; and that others have added to since Mapes’ book was published. However, there seems to be a constant effort by some to blow a thick fog of gibberish about MS Word and Times New Roman in an attempt to hide the truth.
It’s very easy to get “into the weeds” when trying to pound a stake into the heart of this MS Word zombie -- and I’m not about to do that. However, in my obsession about the memos I have learned in the years since Buckhead’s cute little illustration with animation, that a number of people have produced evidence and illustrations that absolutely contradict Buckhead’s claim that MS Word with default settings produced an “exact” match to the Killian memos.
The reason I’m wasting time to write this is to get the authors of some of this work the attention they deserve by listing my favorites – and their links.
A. There is, of course the Newcomer site that PaulBC noted at 8:05 AM that supports the Buckhead assertion
http://www.flounder.com/bush2.htm
B. The most informative, and overall most thorough -- and I think best -- is BC. If you want to get schooled completely go to his page here (be warned it’s a lot of stuff):
http://aheckofa.com/FoolMeOnce/CBSBushMemos.html
C. Probably the most accessible/fun rebuttal to that initial animation is this other page by BC -- a whole gallery of animations (a la Buckhead on LGF) that totally shreds the “MS Word in default mode is an exact match” assertion.
http://aheckofa.com/FoolMeOnce/Animations.html
D. A more elegant and rigorous look at the font issues and typewriter or computer production can be found here in a pdf report by Dr David Hailey (who I must note was denigrated for his early draft notes by Wizbang and the LGF folks). You’ll learn what typed fonts actually look like blown up to large size and how they differ from laser or ink-jet printed fonts.
This is a short introduction -- http://imrl.usu.edu/bush_memo_study/index.htm
This is a large pdf –
http://imrl.usu.edu/bush_memo_study/supporting_material/bush_memos.pdf
If you’re crazy and want to try this at home (compare MS Word to the Killian memos) be sure to use the high resolution photocopy of the memo that is reproduced in Mapes’ book -- Truth and Duty. It’s on page 340 in the Appendix. You’ll be stunned if all you’ve seen are the low-resolution faxed and pdf versions that almost everybody has wasted their time on.
