'offensive posture"?
I believe it was the Strategic Missle Defense system (or whatever the Bush-Cheney term is) that the fly-boy Rumsfeld was focused on (in part to bring the California high-tech industry back into the GOP fold after Ashcroft killed the MicroSoft antitrust suit), that and "state sponsors" of terrorism - particularly those with oil.
"Marine intelligence analyst" - really?

"Does this imply that, had Blumenthal beat up a girl, that his opinion about Bush's AWOL status would now be credible? Please explain that one."
Only an ignorant moonbat would infer that.
"In fact, please explain how Rather's and Blumenthal's credibility has absolutely any relevance to Bush's military service."
The issue is hypocrisy, not credibility. Blumenthal failed to serve in unifirm during Vietnam. Rather failed to make it through Marine Corps boot camp.
There certainly is a credibility component. Blumenthal was the Clintons' lapdog and we all know how honest the Clintons are. Rather forfeited what little credibility he had left when he presented fake documents as the real things.
"This story is about an upcoming court case, wherein all the facts will be evaluated, under oath and probably before a jury. The case will look at various documents, and determine whether or not a major media outlet actively suppressed a potentially damaging story about a sitting president. Dan Rather could be shagging Larry Craig in a bathroom stall, and Sidney Blumenthal could be molesting interns with Foley, and none of that would make a damn bit of difference about the facts at hand."
That statement shows how little you respect the facts,
"Corporal, you talk about hypocrisy, but I believe there's a line in your bible about removing the mote from your own eye. You've repeatedly expressed your ire about Clinton being a draft dodger, for the fact that he received 2 deferments. However, you're notably mum about Cheney, who received 5 deferments."
How many times does it have to be noted that Clinton's deferment was conditional, i.e., that Clinton would avoid the draft if he served in the ROTC? Clinton failed to keep his commitment, and that is why Col. Holmes accurately called Clinton a draft dodger. Cheney's deferments came with no such conditions.
"Personally, military deferments to avoid serving in Vietnam doesn't bother me. Had I been drafting age back then, you can bet I'd have done everything in my power to avoid that quagmire."
I'm sure you would.
"However, these deferments seem to have a special relevance to you, being very important when it's a Democrat and not worth mentioning when it's a Republican. Can you please explain this apparent hypocrisy for us?"
There is no hypocrisy. I explain the difference between Clinton and Cheney's cases. Clinton had an actual draft induction date; Cheney did not. Clinton reneged on his commitment to serve in the ROTC; Cheney did not. Clinton participated in communist-organizated protests against his own country when he was on foreign soil; Chney did not.

Is Palast a "crank"?
I referred to Palast as a "crank" because he seems to stand completely apart from the established mainstream media and tries to see the world and report on it.
The result is that everyone has heard of Dan Rather and not many,or not enough, have heard of Greg Palast.
As far as I know, he's the journalist who gave a detailed account of how the Bushies strong-armed the election so-called recount in Florida in 2000. Again, much of that story was hiding in plain sight too, but most of us didn't know that the Republican Party or Bush's election committee actually sent their well-dressed goons down to Florida to stage a "demonstration."
Jeffrey Toobin in his new book on the Supreme Court writes that Justice David Souter was so outraged by the Supreme Court decision on the Bush election that he was in tears and almost quit.
So maybe our exchange will put the Palast report back into this letters discussion. And then again, maybe not.
We have to keep trying.

Re:USMC and the imposter Groenhager
A business partner of mine was a Marine Lt. Colonel who served in Vietnam, so I forwarded him the information the so called former Marine Groenhager provided about himself(unsolicited) on this thread. He had contacted a source at USMC headquarters and was told that such a person never served in the USMC. Not that I was surprised, can you imagine such an asshole surviving 20 minutes of boot camp? A eral Marine would never support ceepy frat boy who supported the Vienam war but used his daddy's influence to get out of fighting but deserted even from the champaign unit he was assigned to.

Actually, Rumsfeld's predecessor was focued on National Missile Defense. According to William Cohen in July 2000, "I cannot think of a more important issue to address than protecting the American people from the threat posed by states such as North Korea, Iran and Iraq who are seeking to acquire nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the long-range
missiles to deliver them."

How about that? Clinton's secretary of defense considered the axis of evil a greater that than al Qaeda. I guess Clinton lied when he said he was obsessed with bin Laden.

An open letter to Viacom/CBS
Dear Viacom/CBS,
Having read this article on Salon.com, and other articles on this subject as well, I can only come to the conclusion that you have traded journalistic accuracy, impartiality and excellence for favor-currying, self-censorship for political gain, and the wilful destruction of people's financial lives for the purpose of attempting to cozy up to washington parasites.
Therefore, be advised that I will will no longer watch any television, Internet material or other kinds of media and entertainment that are owned, produced or in any way funded by Viacom or any of its divisions, companies or affiliates. Furthermore, I intend to boycott all products that are advertized by the same. Your conduct in this matter has been duplicitous, reprehensible and downright disgusting, and no honest, decent, hard-working person can countenance even the idea of continuing to contribute to your bottom line.
I call upon all people to do the same as I have. It is high time that we began to use our hard-won earnings to arrest this kind of foul and disgusting behaviour, and do everything that we can to stop the pervasive corruption that oozes from the highest offices in our nation into our lives and homes on a daily basis.
