  • Bogus witness

    debpet:

"The key witness asserts that the INFORMATION in them is TRUE, and there is additional corroborating evidence."

That alleged witness did not serve on Bush's plane. Isn't that what you moonbats told us regarding John Kerry and the SBVT (in their case, boats).

  • Let's wait and see

Mr. Blumenthal suggests that Mr. Rather "will certainly establish beyond reasonable doubt that George W. Bush never completed his required service in the Texas Air National Guard."

Ok...I'll want to see this...I've been waiting for someone to prove this beyond reasonable doubt since the allegation came up. But so far, no one has. I had thought Mr. Rather had done so until this farce occurred.

Further, the story says "Rather's suit will seek to demonstrate that the documents used in his "60 Minutes II" piece were not inauthentic and that he and his producers acted responsibly in presenting them and the information they contained -- and that that information is true. Indeed, no credible source has refuted the essential facts of the story."

Ok...true they have not been proven inauthentic...but neither have they been proven authentic. I thought that was the crux of the problem...that they could not be authenticated. Further, as I understand it, while no credible source has refuted the essential facts of the story, no credible source has proven the facts of the story either. Remember that when allegations are made, the burden of proof is on those MAKING the allegations.

Hence the firing of Mr. Rather. So if Mr. Rather DOES have evidence suggesting he was correct after all, not ONLY should he win his lawsuit but CBS should have to rehire him or at the very least pay him backpay from the time of his firing to date.

Should be interesting to see if Mr. Rather can deliver the goods.

  • What's the frequency Dan?

Once Mr. Rather is vindicated for his wrongful firing and GWB is stripped of his presidential facade (and hopefully tried at the Hague for the numerous war crimes he's committed) I hope Rather will use his investigative powers to uncover:

    • Why Sidney Blumenthal's masculinity or lack of it bears any relevance on the fact that GWB went AWOL
    • Why anyone in the military would have ANY respect for a commander in chief who lied to keep himself OUT of armed combat and lied to send others INTO it
    • And finally, if all Marines are jarheads and all jarheads are douches, are all Marines douches? The public has a right to know
  • Graphic Imagery

If the stand alone question "is this a forged document" could ever go to court, the likely outcome would be a hung jury. The pros and cons on this board point to the many inconsistencies, suspect methodologies, and so on. In the end, why should we care. Do we get to negate the fact that Israel bombed the shit out of Beirut, because there was one, ONE "faked" photo out of hundreds?

The reality is that there is plenty of other evidence and witness statements that substantiates the case Rather made. And I won't detail them here, because hell it's fonts and typewriters that are important.

Bush dodged Vietnam (duh) and he did not complete his service (duh), the issue is how the emperor can be naked, in the middle of the public square, babbling how beautiful his clothes are, and people are then easily led to debating fonts. How does that happen? God, sometimes I think we are a nation of morons.

Rather was railroaded and CBS will be shown that it found it in it's own best interest to suckle at the tit of Carl Rove. Wow, now there's an image.

  • re: What's the frequency Dan?

    gobstruck,

"Once Mr. Rather is vindicated for his wrongful firing and GWB is stripped of his presidential facade (and hopefully tried at the Hague for the numerous war crimes he's committed)"

Well Mr. Rather MAY well be vindicated...but I seriously doubt the president will be "tried at the Hague" for whatever war crimes you envision he may have committed.

"Why Sidney Blumenthal's masculinity or lack of it bears any relevance on the fact that GWB went AWOL" - President Bush going AWOL has yet to be proven beyond reasonable doubt...and in any event, Mr. Blumenthal's masculinity is irrelevant.

"Why anyone in the military would have ANY respect for a commander in chief who lied to keep himself OUT of armed combat and lied to send others INTO it" - Well again, I cannot say with certainty that President Bush DID do this...but if it is proven he has done this, then I assume the loss of respect for him will be on a par with President Clinton.

"And finally, if all Marines are jarheads and all jarheads are douches, are all Marines douches? The public has a right to know " - you obviously have a problem with Marines so any answer will be unsatisfactory for you...however, I DO have a piece of advice for you...DO NOT walk up to a Marine and talk like this unless you're prepared for the consequences.

  • Go Dan

Finally, we may see the curtain pulled back on W. Regardless of the outcome regarding the validity of the documents in question, to see our president (who sent the guard off to face their possible end in Iraq) as one who never fulfilled his own guard service... well, this will be the legacy of someone who never should have taken the responsibility and mantle of "Leader of the Free World". As Clint Eastwood said (as "Dirty Harry"), "A man's got to know his limitations."

And Dan Rather's ultimate legacy will be that he spoke the truth. Not a bad way to go out :)

  • Get'm; get'm all!

Here's hoping Mr. Rather's law suit against CBS goes forward. Seeing how bush has exploited and hid behind the US Military since entering the White House, it's easy to see how little regard he really has for military service; the guy is a spoiled weakling. I hope the case goes forward and it exposes all of the phony crumbs who have collaborated in the bush presidency and have so terribly weakened the US over the past 7 years. Now, let's see how honorable the US justice system really is?
