Without Karl Rove around to give him his orders, and with the investigations closing in, "Fredo" had nowhere to turn.

  • @Tyler_Mason ...

    Tyler_Mason ... FUNNY! I laughed! :-)

Thank you for injecting a little humour into the festivities!

MMM ...beer! A subject our dear friend Homer could get behind.

Brown-shirts indeed. But ... what if ... what if we could do both? Wack 'em over the head while dazzling them with our brilliance and the inescapable certainly of our factual arguements? Dare to dream.

See ya at the beer hall. (A Guinness will do nicely.)

  • Gonzo

This is the best news yet, one can only hope that when it comes to being prosecuted, he chooses himself as his attorney, after all he is an idiot, and then he would have one as his lawyer.

  • Elephantdung's disdain for inaccurate predicitons

Elephantman claims that Sydney Blumenthal lacks credibility due to his inaccurate prediction that Gonzales would not resign.

Well, if Elephantman holds a WRITER to this level of accountability, can you imagine how he feels about Bush and the neocons in power?

How does he feel about Bush saying Saddam had WMD to include a nuclear weapons program (mushroom clouds anyone?)?

How does he feel about Cheney's comments about the insurgency being in the last throes?

How does he feel about Rumsfeld saying the war might take days or weeks, but certainly not months or years?

How does he feel about Bush's prediction prior to 9/11 that, despite the warnings he was given about bin Laden being determined to strike the US, nothing bad was about to happen?

I suppose all of those were taken out of context and could be easily explained and forgiven.

But clear as crystal, Blumenthal is a double-talking hypocrite who cannot be trusted or given an ounce of credibility.

I am glad to see Righties still understand accountability moments. Keep on the case, Columbo. Your intellectual honesty is iron clad.

  • @episcomom

Actually, the information on Bush's jury duty is correct. The media was planning on covering his service and Bush's office had even released information saying that he was going to be present. Some progressive groups in Texas had alerted the Defense lawyer in the DWI case of the wonderful opportunity that it would present if Bush showed up to question him under oath about any experiences he had with the police, etc. They guy was even set to question him about his experience in the Air National Guard as it might pertain to his attitude toward people in uniform, etc. There was a crowd assembled in the courtroom waiting for the event and Bush backed out at the last minute by inventing the story about the conflict of interest. Gossip in Austin widely credited Gonzales with sniffing out the plot, although many in the know think that someone in the know leaked the plan back to Gonzalez.

  • Uh-Oh

I wish I could feel better about this because I can smell another Rovian act here.

Anything the GOP does is for the benefit of the GOP.

Republicans are trying to plaster over their corruption and mismanagement in time for the 08 Election.

The Dems need to keep Bush's lies, misdeeds, and mismanagement front and center during the election campaign.

  • Here's Uncle Joe, Movin' Kinda Slow at the Junction

Did Fredo resign contingent upon Joe Lieberman's assent to resign his Senate seat and take the appointment at Justice? Connecticut has a GOP governor... who then could appoint a Republican to succeed Lieberman and thus tip the balance in the Senate.

For those of us who care about America, it's a nightmare scenario. But it's also altogether possible, knowing Lieberman's erratic behavior since Bush-Cheney stole the election of 2000 from him and Al Gore. In short — please, let's not go there.

I have no wish to aid Bush in any way. In my opinion, he's the Worst Person Who's Ever Lived. But here's how he can extricate himself from this Justice quagmire. Here's an appointment for A.G. that will be guaranteed to sail through the Senate, and it's not a guy who's beholden to the White House (after all, he was a McCain supporter): former military prosecutor Lindsay Graham.

He's way too young to be set adrift in The Wilderness in 17 months. And I think the governor of South Carolina is a Democrat. But what the hell, they're going to lose even more Senate seats next year.

  • Apocalypto Gonzalez

Gonzalez wanted to be the hispanic Clarence Thomas, and if a few things had turned out differently, he might have been appointed to the Supreme Court.

The only lifetime position he can look forward to now is that of "sellout to the gringos."

That's all right, though, A.G. Don't worry: "Juan" Cornyn will defend you.

  • Huh?

"The logic of his resignation became indisputable from his own narrow interest and the larger interest of the administration."

This was a decent article, but I really can't figure out what the hell this sentence is supposed to mean.

  • Simpler Explanation

Jon Stewart is on vacation this week.

  • What is the bigger picture? Rove, Gonzales

Mr. Blumenthal, You always get to the bigger picture yourself! The academics can call what they think is the next tactical play.... but what is really going on..... the New York Times on the editorial page on the Rove resignation said it is in the corporate marketing playbook to recall defective products in August because everyone who counts is on vacation, what is the Republican game plan for September??? The Rove and Gonzales resignations are not unexpected but are long overdue. Rove on Meet the Press a couple of weeks ago made a tellling statement, he said something to the effect, democrats are always complaining about what went wrong and what the current administration did wrong, Republicans are proposing a plan for the future. So what is ahead? I agree it is past the time that Gonzales should have resigned, it is obvious how devious and underhanded Rove was, but what is ahead? What about Cheney? What about the future? As much as I dislike Rove, I think he gave hints as to what the Democrats should focus on in his Meet The Press interview.

Cheney in my mind was alwyas the puppet master behind Bush, and the Master of Darkness....what is going on in his camp? I think u Mr. Blumenthal are a great person to address these issues rather than the " quasi academic writers" who like to have their intellectual debates over the web that really get no where.....Maybe tactically they are right but strategically they get caught up in their quagmires of intellectual masterbation.....

What is the next move that takes place in Bush world????????
