Like a mafia don convicted for tax evasion, Libby should do serious time for this lesser offense of perjury because we all know he and his colleagues are guilty of criminal negligence in failing to plan for a post invasion Iraq. Of course, Scooter and the others are also guilty of several counts of subverting the constitution and interfering with intelligence analysis. Again like the mafia dons, they are likely responsible for crimes we will never know about, the fallout from which affect many innocent people.
Extravaganza of terror this summer = like a bad blockbuster movie
This is what the administration is hyping.
Rove started with stolen stationary, false bugging of his candidate's office, an army of attorney generals doing his bidding and a false war. Like a serial killer who starts with small animals and work their way up. His self proclaimed "hundred year reich" aka GOP is just another step. Beware these evil beyond evil men. Whether it's 80,000 salmon or 3600 troops deaths it means nothing to them.
What is my point? The reason the President is soo serene is there is another false flag attack planned and he feels this will help change his "legacy" around. He was right, we were in danger, even if they have to manufacture a danger. Remember the stolen stationary of Rove's. Peloise and Reid we can't wait them out, we have to route them out now!
there's the "obstruction of justice" by the executive branch ....
and the grossly manipulative and self-serving (and obstructionist) nature of the "commutation" versus a simple pardon ...
... there's half-assed rationalizations regarding excessive jail time by an administration which has opposed judicial sentencing consideration of exactly these sorts of mitigating factor.
This is commutation is almost lackidaisical in it's lack of foundation ... oh, and Libby apparently never requested it ... another peculiarity ...
It's as if Bush were reluctantly acquiesing to Cheney's demand -- rather like a resentful teenager -- with a sneer and a smirk -- not even trying to put a grown-up "good face" on it, transparently, with attitude "going through the motions" because who's gonna stop the annointed decider?
Cheney's control over Bush has NEVER been so apparent.
There's simply no way to rationally reconcile and it looks worse and worse on further examination -- history will not be kind.
The Scooter is indicted on four counts of perjury and obstruction of justice. The faithful pour millions into a legal defense fund and a crack team of lawyers is hired. They plan a vigorous defense and tell the judge that both Libby and Cheney will testify.
But then something happens. The trial starts and witness after witness tell a different version of events than the Scooter's official story. But the Scooter is a busy man. How can his razor sharp mind be expected to remember the Cheney directed operation to smear Joe Wilson because he exposed the lies which led us into a disastrous war. Just a minor event which slipped the Scooter's mind.
What about the handwritten notes from Cheney? You know his wife works for the CIA. Let's out her. No, I'll say Russett told me about it. That's the ticket. But ten witnesses including Russet have testified that it isn't the ticket. The Scooter is f**ked. The defense, Cheney under oath, forced to tell the truth. Do you want him to have a heart attack?
Things are dire, so Cheney tells the Decider that we've got to get a message to our crack team of lawyers. The case is lost. There'll be no under oath testimony from the Scooter or the Shooter. The Scooter will take one for the team and the Decider will make sure he walks.
There currently are 368 convicted perjurers in federal prison, serving an average of 61 months.
As a step toward impeachment and as a way of memorializing Scooter, I suggest legislation to change the official address of the White House from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to Number One Perp Walk.
Have you forgotten who his attorney was???
Clue: Lewis "Scooter" Libby.
Perfect phrase for the lack of logical nexus between Clinton's evasions about his sexual indiscretion and Libby's lies as part of a high-level obstruction of justice. Clinton tried to avoid embarrassment. Libby was participating in a continuing assault on truth, a misuse of government trust, and a cover up about high crimes and misdemeanors. Bush and Cheney need to be impeached. Speaking of which, I find amazing the willingness of all sorts of people to discuss this maneuver as though it was an exercise of judgment by Bush. There is a NYT article today treating Bush as though he was a disinterested executive who waded through all the evidence to reach a sound decision. What world do we live in? I reel when I hear and read treatments of Bush that position him as something other than a criminal. I really do don't get it.
What many on the Right like to pretend, is that the law was about “leaking” the name of a covert officer. It was not, it was about “knowingly leaking” the name of a covert officer.
The investigators knew months before Fitzgerald was appointed, that at least three people had “leaked” Valerie’s name; what they needed to get to the bottom of, was if any of the three knew she was covert when they leaked her name.
The LA Times has come through with the facts but Bush doesn't care. But we've been here before.
First the American public went out of its mind and had a temper tantrum meltdown when Paris Hilton was released to home detention
Then the LA Times did some checking and found out that home detention is the norm for her crime in LA County.
But nobody cared about the facts and she had to serve her whole time inside the jail anyways.
Now we have Bush claiming that 30 months is excessive for Scooter's crime.
However, the LA Times checked and found it's actually a pretty mild sentence compared with what people normally serve for that crime.
But does Bush care? Nooooooooo. Of course not. We can't count on him to care about the difference between what's true and what isn't true.
He doesn't care about sentencing norms any more than Paris Hilton's judge cares about sentencing norms.
At least we can count on the LA Times to check up on how much time people actually serve in jail for their crimes.
That seems like a small accomplishment -- but in this reality-detached country, it's actually a pretty big one.
